wow! i never knew the n64 actually ran rayman 64 at 60fps after watching rayman 64 gameplay videos for the past couple of years.

Better graphics doesn’t always make a game better, longer doesn’t always make it better. But yes, voice acting is better than not having none at all.

The n64 version almost look like a ps2 game at times
n64 was like the next console gen compared to ps1, while with its exclusive games the step was even bigger and the n64 was far ahead of its time like no console ever was again since

Considering how much they had to trim down the PS1 version, the N64 version wins this.
However, the PS2 version is superior, especially since it has better voice work than the PS1 version and had the option for both the Raymanian language and English voice work.
That's because it's a new gen console
dreamcast is the best. ps2 is capped to 30fps, doesn't have widescreen and the new additions aren't good at all and break the pacing

Yes, the definitive version is the Dreamcast version. However, the PS2 version still outdoes the N64 version.

I wish I could play a remastered collection of the 3D Rayman Titles: The Great Escape and Hoodlum Havoc on today’s game consoles, and if there were a remastered collection of those 3D Rayman titles, I’d like em’ if there collection title were called Rayman: the Glade of Dreams series, or Rayman: the 3D Transition series… or… something like that? Like how the two klonoa games got their collection title: Klonoa: the Phantasy Reverie series, with the word: series as a collection title these days. Man I miss playing those 3D Rayman titles so much.
N64 looking pretty good, reminds me of the pc/Dreamcast version. The PS1 version definitely looks poor in comparison, but it does have that secret 2d Rayman 2 Easter egg with some playable levels.
I’m hoping to get the N64 version someday.

I only prefer the PS1version due to the music. I've played both versions (PS first then N64), but that guitar soundtrack is essential for this game. 👂🏾👂🏾
PS1 has better soundtrack but N64 has better graphics and also if you play the N64 version with the Expansion Pack the game will be running at 640x480i

Impressed which is a first for anything N64, 60FPS, clear graphics with no fog, could pass for a DC game. Makes me wonder if it would've been possible to have prior N64 titles e.g Mario 64, DK64 etc run at this framerate at the time.

Well there’s that SM64 project that was able to optimize the code enough to get it to run at 53(?) FPS. I believe that was for the console version and not the PC recompile but idr

Pretty sure he's unfairly tipped the odds to N64 by cranking up the resolution on the emulator but not doing it as much for PS1.
No N64 game is that clear resolution.

Well the Sony Playstation was on its first console at the time while Nintendo was on its 64th console. So that is 64 consoles Vs 1 console and they just released their 5th one the PS5 26 years later.

Ps1 always did a hell of a job considering its only 32 bits.

PSX had full dialogue, less compressed audio but visuals were worse. N64 visuals are better but it's quite lacking everywhere else. Oddly PC and DC ports also lack proper dialog even though hardware was way way stronger than what PSX and N64 could do. I guess that was just Ubisoft being lazy and simply porting N64 version to PC and DC instead of giving something different. PS2 version is a wholly different game that has the same title. And then there is mobile and DS and 3DS port of Rayman 2 but those are gain N64 version ported. Especially for the Nintendo consoles.
It is really weird that games that were originally for PC had inferior and terrible ports on consoles while primarily console title had butchered PC ports for some reason at the time. And developers just recently put in effort to make proper PC ports for their games, finally understanding that PC, since late 90s, is the superior hardware.
Actually the conception that the n64 version was the first to be developed is wrong.Rayman 2 was first created on pc,and after some times the developers started to port the game on the Nintendo 64 cartridge,compressing the textures in the process..It would make no sense to do the textures the 1st time(n64) and then redone all of them in higher resolution for pc,that would mean to recreate all the game a 2nd time,it's a lot easier and less time-expensive to downscale instead.
N64 graphics > PSX , the problem was that psx was hackable and had hundreds of titles
for some reason the ps1 has better textures in some places.
I think I liked Zelda a lot but I also liked megaman a lot too.

This is one of the best examples to show how much more powerful the Nintendo 64 is compared to the Playstation 1.
The PS1 version of Rayman 2 has several downgrades:
- Lower resolution (PS1 version runs at only 256x224 while Nintendo 64 runs at 320x240 or 640x480 with the Expansion Pak)
- Lower Framerate
- Lower quality textures
- Models with fewer polygons and that do not even move the mouth.
- Stages and parts of the scenery cut due to lack of RAM space
It's just a shame that not all developers were able to use the Nintendo 64 to the fullest because the PS1 is the dominant console on the market, games like Jet Set Force Gemini and Turok 3 for example would never run on the PS1.

and that was just a 3rdParty game / port, comparing exclusive games n64 the gap was really huge, n64 was far ahead of its time graphic wise
