- In this video I show the simplest way to grow all your Yam heads from home cooking. We eat yams throughout the year and the heads that would be binned can be grown to give us a future yam. #growyams #gardenadvice
In Grenada we would dig and cut yam and put the head back in the hole. I hadn't seen the same done with pots, but this is a great idea. You can just keep re-growing! Thank you, Lillian.
That has always been the practice but the modernpopulation would purchase their yams far away from the farm. I always enjoy watching your channel @davidthegood
I am going to plug this video in a video on yam growing that I'll post this week. Thank you again.
@@davidthegoodSurely that would be a great help. Thank you@davidthegood
I do love this lady. Seriously. I haven't seen many yam growth videos except for sweet potatoes. I don't consider those as real yams. I love the way her yam plant developed.
Wow, thank you!
Nice and inspirational to see your video lilian. I grow cinnamon yam outside in my back garden in the UK. I also cut of the head of sprouting Puna yam I buy in the market and grow these in some years. However when they are grown in containers out in the back garden, the vines die back in winter and the underground tubers has to be stored in a frost free area in order for them to sprout new vines at spring time in the new year.
This is the pattern of its grow in my garden as well. UK.

Thanks please after how long does it take before you can harvest the yam in this weather? Do yams produce alot of yams from one container like sweet potatoes and potatoes. I have never eaten yam just heard the health benefits today
Hello dear Lilian! Oh that’s fantastic info on establishing the roots to get the plant going!! That makes a lot of sense….. great watering tips too!! You seriously are the best yam grower Lilian!! Amazing job my friend 💝💐🌻💕
You are so welcome

No throwing away from now on but put it in a pot with soil instead. This is new learning.
Oh yes, no throwing away.
Great instruction, thank you!
Thanks

I appreciate your feedback. thanks.
Thanks for sharing 👍good informations
Thanks for visiting
May God bless you
Amen. Thanks and may God bless you as well.
So creative no waisting instead tothrow just plant it.
Oh yes, no wasting
Would putting it directly into a mound be better?
Yes, putting it directly into a mound would work better. If there's available planting space closer to the house. The hardship of harvesting from in-ground must be considered.
Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
Great video!!
Glad you enjoyed it
What about planting it directly into the ground
Planting directly into the ground also works very well.
Thank you for your video. May I ask which country are you planting this yams from?
Thanks for watching. I'm planting the yams in the Uk as demonstration
for gardeners in warm climates. The yam will not grow successfully large here .
My sister. I live in Maryland and in Dec/Jan, it will be probably snowing here. Should I bring it out in May when our spring weather warms up? Or when do you advise I should bring g it out?
You get it right my sister, keep it in greenhouse or sun room till weather is conducive both at night and day. May wending would be just right.

Your farming technique is different.... I prefer using the fork..😮😊😊
So many ways to achieve the same results especially in farming.
How many months does it take a yam seedlings to grow & ready for harvesting?
It will take seven months to get a good table sized yam from seedlings. The seedlings first has to be produced from cut yams this is what I'm showing in this videovideo. To get a seedling can take six months,

How do you keep them un winter?
They are dormant through winter. Covered with mulch and blanket in a storage building.
I am growing them for the seedling not the full yam.
How long does the yam grow for consumption
Seven months from germination and first leaf.
@@LiliansGardens waao, thanks, then likely it won't succeed into the winter. Thxs
Hi princess Lilian, what variety of yam is this.
Dioscorea cayenensis. It presents as either yellow or red when cut.
Did u say ashes or detol?
You may use either ashes or dettol and also use both. They are to prevent pathogens overcoming the cuttings.
