- Thomas Gansch and Leonhard Paul improvising aroung Hey Jude at the Mnozil Brass concert 18 April 2009 in Uppermill, UK.
I saw these guys in Banff 2008 at the ITG where they blew away an audience of 600 trumpeters, but this gig was even better. More up-close and personal!!!!
Words can't describe just how fabulous these guys are. Buy their CDs and DVDs, but most importantly if you get the chance GO AND SEE THEM LIVE!!!!!

It is truly amazing how long they can play without using the spitvalve.
@Optimus Prime when i dont use my spitvalve for a few minutes i already here the spit bubbling, i dont get how they are able to play clearly with so muc hspit in there.
😂
very nice!
anybody that plays a brass instrument could truly appreciate the talent in this video. I'm so inspired...
THose pedal notes on trumpet --and the circular breathing --- Magic !
makes me realise im wasting my time
I was just the other side in the 5th row. This is a concert I'm going to remember for a long long time. I'm really pleased this was shared. Thank you.
Gansch breaking into "Rule, Britannia" @ 3:30... BRILLiANT!!!!
You are correct. I think the bass trumpet is more beautiful looking than either of those though :)
This is pure brass art :-)
I can't count the amount of times I've listened to this. I've been to a lot of Canadian Brass and Salvation Army Band Concerts over the year and this just tops it. Amazing!!!!!!!
An absolute joy, every time
Those pedal notes on trumpet AWSOME !
ugh. my goal in life is to be them. it would be a dream to meet them in real life!!!!!
Have played in Uppermill many times. (Jazz sax..sorry!) Some really TOP class Brass players there. Well there would be, wouldn't there? Brass band country with its nearby White Rose, A1 brass neighbours.
Bet they were all feeling about this concert....
"How DID they do it, especially the unwritten jazz stuff?" without a piece of music?"
Don't worry Brassers. We free blowin' jazzers hold your disciplined and accurate reading
in bewildered admiration.
My reading is good enough to teach kids (or adults) how to do it, but in the full knowledge that they will certainly and soon get better than me!
They have a long way to go to improvise or extemporise, (as it used be called) like I can but then they don't know the problems Ah seen!
Gotta hear the jaaazzz., Man..Feel the jaaazzzz Man!, absorb the jaaaazzz Man..think the Jaaaazz.
Ya don't wanna do it? Tough for you! Lotsa folks do.
Ya got all ALL the disciplines cf classical music but permission to break the rules if your impromptu & inventive talent calls for it.
actually you're wrong too. its a flugel horn. schagerl produces them. you can check them out on their website.
If this is a flugelhorn, my name is Louis Armstrong. The register is much too low, maybe it's an alto/tenor flugelhorn or something? It seems to have extra tubing.
No its called bass trumpet guys..the mouthpiece is the same as on the trombone
Leonhard is playing a Bass Trumpet and Thomas a Killer Queen (Schagerl Flugelhorn designed for him)
From 6:48 on, is that Paul harmonizing with himself with humming? Cause that's awesome
Can't beat that. Wow.
Leonhard is so good with multiphonics... :O
@euphi451
It's in Bb.
en tot in eeuwigheid amen
I just love the last notes!!!
actually it IS a flugel. A "Killer Queen" by Schagerl specially designed for Thomas.
Awesome!!!!
Nicht so meine Variante
What kind of horn is Leonhard playing?
Schagerl bass trumpet I believe.
Thanks...I would have guessed that it is a flugelhorn of some sorts.
super, super, super!!!
Lo desarmaron en mil partes al tema... excelente
Well. Technically you're both right. It is a Flugel horn, built by Schagerl. But the name of the Flugelhorn is The Killer Queen.
Was ist das
This is talent on another level...
