This was so helpful! I didn’t even notice that my dryer wasn’t clicking while I was turning the knob until I watched this video. This was the problem. I turned the dial using pliers and it worked.

Dryer quit working, so I got to googling and came across this video, this is exactly what was wrong, so thankful for your video! Like many others you just saved us hundreds of dollars!
My husband used Google lense on his phone to take a picture of the serial number, immediately a link from Amazon popped up for a replacement knob with the reinforced metal $8 will be here in two days. Thanks again!
Instead of pliers my husband popped the timer on/off knob off and placed it on the cycle selection, it fit perfectly, we will carefully use the timer knob as a replacement until we receive the new one in the mail. I can't express how grateful I am for this concise video

It absolutely worked! I didn’t have a replacement at the time, it was like midnight drying my fiancés clothes for work the next morning. So I just manually turned it with pliers and it immediately fixed it. Will be purchasing a replacement tomorrow. Thank you!!

2 minutes in, I stop the video and say "no way thats the problem." I look, no reinforcement ring, it does appear cracked. Moved the timer stem with a small vise grip into position, press the start button AND THE DRYER TURNS ON! New knob ordered. Hope the rest of my day goes this well. Thank you sir!

My dryer took a dump thirty minutes ago. On a hunch, I went to You Tube with the GE Model number and caught your video. I took my timer knob off and saw the crack. Just ordered a new one on line. It should be here in a week. For the load that I had in the dryer, my channel locks worked fine to turn the dial stem. I had visions of several hundred dollars that I didn't have being spent. Did NOT turn out that way at all. THANK YOU!

My wife sent me this link after we couldn't get our dryer starting today. I'm glad she did because it potentially saved us hundreds on a repairman housecall.
Until we get a replacement knob mailed in I guess I'll have to use pliers and be very careful not to strip the metal rod that goes into the dial knob.

This was an easy fix I would have overlooked. My GE gas dryer, model DRSR495GGWW, made in 2008, looks different with 4 knobs and a push button start, but this knob was the problem. Thank you very much.

I have a slightly different model. Changed out the timer, worked for a minute, then nothing. Watched your video and sure enough it was the dial (note: the timer had gone out, I used plyers to move the knob, but just spun). All in all had 2 issues. Will order a new dial, but in the mean-time I took the dial off the wrinkle free and put in place of the timer dial. Worked like a charm. Thank you.

Wow! I looked at another video first and was trying that when I deadended on their idea. Then I found this one, took off the dial and manually rotated the pin toward a time setting and hit start. Bingo! Thanks for sharing this super simple tip!

@@getitdonehomerepair I ordered a new timer dial but also saved the old one and filled epoxy in both sides where the hair line cracks were and clamped the cracks together. Now I'm have two timer dials that work.
Was about to take the whole thing apart to figure out the issue why it won’t start. Happy I found this video before deep diving into it.
You are genious. Same problem I faced the dial was not turning from 0 minutes. Inspected the knob had a crack. Tried another knob and moved and it worked. 🙂

I had the same issue. I put super glue in the crack on both side, used a neddle nose plier to hold it tight and let it dry for 5 minutes. The crack is fixed, put the knob back,now it's working fine! Good temporary solution. Will order the knob now, but my wife can still wash her clothes, doesn't have to wait for the part!! Thank you very much for the video.

That's an easy fix. I have universal knobs on my truck. Before I got the universal knobs, I fixed these with JB weld quick epoxy.

I have the same dryer, what I don’t understand is the temperature control. Do you need to set a temperature? because the different cycles apparently use different temperatures also.

Can also use a heavy duty small zip tie to tighten the female dial part, at least for short term while waiting for the new dial.

for a quick temporary fix, super glue seems to work fine to keep the cracks in the plastic from slipping on those knobs
