Sup y'all, currently I'm a high school senior. I reside in the state of VA and my parents are making me apply to at least two schools in state because of tuition. That's a whole other story, but I really can't bring myself to love UVA. I swear on my life I've really tried but I just don't get that spark and inspiration I do with other schools. Now before I get eaten alive by comments, please note that I'm not hating on UVA nor do I disrespect or disregard anyone's opinion. I know how great of a school UVA is based off of statistics alone. I was wondering if you all could maybe change my mind. If you're wondering what I don't exactly like about it, hopefully this helps: -although having a considerably large student population, UVA is not as diverse demographically as one might hope -UVA's campus is not necessarily appealing and pretty to look at, I understand it's a historical campus but I can't bring myself to like the colonial, early American architecture (this one is just my opinion so I understand if you like it a lot more than me). I prefer a much more modern looking, newer looking place of learning, whether it be inside or outside of buildings. -UVA is by far not economically diverse -UVA doesn't have as strong of a physics program (my intended major) as schools which are considerably less competitive. This competitive nature/elitism in these higher ranking colleges have a great influence over student life I'm sure in some cases, and I know this isn't the case at just UVA -lastly, I here there's this alcoholism-esk culture at UVA and that it's an insane party school. Not necessarily my thing lol. Please know that I know this school is many's dream school. I'm sure many would not like my dream school at all. Please understand I do not hate this school at all and that, again, I know this is a great school, it's just not for me. I'm making this long ass comment because I'm afraid if I get in I'll be forced to go and although I can transfer I'd still prefer to go somewhere for my freshman year at an institute I'll enjoy much more. Please convince me otherwise lol :)
Well if your heart is not calling for that college, don’t do it...,you’re goin to grow up one day and regret not sticking to your intuition...and no one wants that...so do something that you will be able to survive and enjoy. College is hard enough. God Bless!
It’s so weird watching this because a bunch of my friends are at UVA and I’m applying EA, so I’m watching trying to see if anyone I know makes an appearance hahahahaha
I am a posse semifinalists from Houston, Texas. It has UVA an option of one of the partner schools. I want to study computer science but want to hear something from you how good that schoo is in this major
Ughhh I’m so torn I love uva and it’s my dream school but I feel like I would be like the only black person in all of my classes and I don’t know how I feel about that:(
I didn’t go to UVA but I’ve lived close to campus for 20 years. I have many black UVA alum friends ( and that was 20 years ago they graduated). Please don’t let this dissuade you. You won’t be alone, regardless of the skin color of the friends you make.
Best of luck. There's a reason the white supremacist disaster rally a few years ago was in C'ville of all places. Things may have changed from when I was there, but I thought it was pretty strong low-key racist. That said, Bodo's just may outweigh that garbage when you consider that racists are everywhere.
