War Of The Worlds Explained: Vegetable Martians & Tripods
Вставка

- "Vegetable" is how H. G. Wells described the Martian creatures illustrated by Dutch Artist Johan Briedé featured in a compacted The War Of The Worlds adaptation for The Strand Magazine in 1920. Along with this, he produced a rather fascinating take on the Fighting Machines that's notable by the surprisingly modern depiction Briede created of the Tripods all the way back during World War 1.
Thanks to #PikaLabs for helping me bring more life to this video!

Slimpods. I always come up with a good name for a tripod depiction AFTER I make a video about them....
2:04 "of how much more advanced they are with multiple telescopes ALL AROUND THEIR MOBILE MACHINES"
You did not have to raise your voice like that😭
its good to see war of the worlds fans still exist
Just got into it
I agree.
Everyone should be. If u like alien movies and stories. Mr wells started it all.
I've actually never heard of these tripod designs so thank you for posting this, you made me learn a new thing!
You're welcome! :) It's probably the most obscure design I've covered so far so it's quite nice to bring some light to these images from over a century ago.
Have you ever seen the Speenhoff Tripod design? It comes from the Dutch release of the book with the illistrations done by 'Jacobus Hendrik Speenhoff'. They're very humanoid in shape, looking like a stacks of pots and pans with insect-like arms pertuding from them. Very interesting design.
send an image of it

I googled it and I agree and I think it’s a very interesting tripod design
The Vegans can finally eat Martian Burgers™ now!
100% organic Martian!
Considering that the martians are described in the novel as highly sluggish and almost non-moving, I believe Wells meant that Johan’s martian design looked like that they were in a constant vegetative state.
4:28 this confirms that these are the caseoh tripods!
My new favorite tripod and martian design.
It's nice to know you like it! :)
@@pupbenny THANK YOU SO MUCH PUPBENNY!!
"It looks like Alastor's cane"
Martian: "Let's begin, we're gonna make you wish we didn't land, tune on in (haha Orson Welles reference) When we're done, your status quo will know it's race is run, oh this will be fu-" *dies from bacteria*
British Angela Dust: Ha! Nice try you bloody wanker!
lol that's a good one
@@60-SecondsSikhi hehe thanks
LOL! Fantastic! Now the Martians are getting bloody rare.
@@pupbenny there've been concept of War Of The Worlds X Hazbin but i am sure with all these demonic magic stuff the Martians lose rather easily
I would say that the steel wires are like weights and when they drop the tripod crouches and then they retract letting the machine rise again
Ooh yeah! That's a good point, that's some really well thought out technical logic if that's the case.
can you do one about the martians from the war of the worlds graphic novel, there are 2 graphic novels of them that i know of. the one by david worth miller, and the one from dark horse. any one of them would do fine i would like to see your opinion on the tripods and the martians in them,
There's so many different versions of the aliens.
Indeed! I suppose that's what makes it so interesting to take a look at all the different interpretations.
Huh, you broke tradition and didn't end on a dancing tripod set to a beat XD
I also recommend making an analysis of “The War Of The Worlds Battleground Australia” book tripod and Martian. I’m Australian and this’ll make very happy as it’s a view of the war of the worlds in one of the many countries that got invaded. And an analysis of “The Massacre Of Man-King” tripod, as its set in an alternate universe and more of a “What If?” Type of book.
Those suckers at the end of the tentacles makes them look like the Martians themselves.
Fascinating to learn of the different tripods!
sometime you should do a video on the great Martian war mockumentary.
I will do eventually. :)
Wait.. a WOTW adapation i never knew? IMPOSSIBLE!
Hey pup can you make a detailed analysis on the martians like their appearance and what not of many illustrators starting Warwick Gobles to BBC martians
I hope to one day. I've been contemplating whether to do it as one long video, or if I should split it up into one video per Martian like with the tripod videos.
@@pupbenny make it like the tripod videos and I have watched every war of the world's video by you
You should cover the depictions from the illustrated classics edition of the War of the Worlds!
I will do. :) I just read it yesterday for the first time and think I might have a couple of videos about it.
I like the design
I remember awhile ago when I watched a ton of your videos about odd world, some really good stuff. But now covering all of these interesting designs of such a classic work like this is very cool. Wonder if you might cover the mostly forgotten animated movie called war of the worlds:Goliath?
I think the weights are for weight distribution, lowering the center of gravity and increasing stability.
Another great video!
Thank you very much, I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)
Basically Blue Cauliflowers from Mars invading the earth with Star Wars Teapots Heads with humanoid grasshopper features...Groovy! For a moment i thoutgh it will related with the Triffids with the Red Weed or some other wacky speculative theory of Martians Life...
Can you go over the original comic tripod and Martian
I imagine there's a smaller group of martians who didn't develop qeapons but more the health and medical focus of their species. Making shorter and thicker tripods with no proper combative capabilities so they created two types of vehicles
Researcher mechs and workers.
Researchers mainly used to document hazards and harmful bacteria while workers focus on heavy labor alongside transporting resources and more.
Also do the Scarlet traces ones next
I think I found a design even more obscure. It was done by a Bob Sabin. For a 1980s version of the book. I have pictures of it if you want to see them.
Ah yes, I think I've seen them! from the globe book company version. I like how basic those ones are, they actually look like they're made of pieces of metal. Will probably do a video on them eventually. Very good knowledge, they certainly are obscure, not many people know about them. I find it fascinating trying to find extremely obscure versions, I even recently considered buying a VERY old magazine from Argentina that included a TWATW adaptation that has hardly any pictures online. I didn't though because I kind of figured it'd be an inconvenience to buy an old Argentinian magazine just for the sake of a couple of images lol.
can you do the goliath tripods???
You should do a video about the tripods from the show of the very same name (the tripods - 1984)
It looks like a corncob. Or those prong things you stick into corn to hold it while eating it.
I do beleive that those cone things are to like crush people.or what i just thought now is that it would open a hatch and then go over a human and close makeing the cone thing into a cage it’s self.Just a theory
Instead of a vegetable the body of the tripod looks more of like a bullet
I can't believe the pointy heads made a cameo in the War of the Worlds
Shit, how did I miss this?
Hey man can you do a video about the tripods from war of the worlds Goliath please?
Watched a few of your videos now and enjoying them. Have you heard of the War of The Worlds: Goliath anime?
Thank you, I'm glad you're enjoying them! :) I've heard of Goliath, a few people have asked me to do videos on it and I will hopefully get around to it eventually.
What is the orange fry part I want to know from generation!!!!
Actually with those weights, they appear to have teeth or baleen on the bottom
Huh? I never see these types of Martian machines before They do look like carrots. Like, seriously, they look like carrots walking giant carrots.
Ha that's true! I was also thinking they kind of look like crayons.
@@pupbenny We should call them the crayon pods
One question. What/where is this tripod version found?. I'm only family with the "water tower" tripod and that 2005 wotw tripods?
why not watch the entire video, it's some random guys artwork
Can you do the comic tripods???
I have never heard of this fighting machine and also i
Am a war of the worlds fan I do fan art of my own tripod fighting machines
Feels illegal to be this early lol
Food of the Gods is about a scientist who employs incompetent people to grow giant chickens, who let the local wildlife get at the growth food, and then people start giving it to kids, so they end up with some giants hanging around. It's not great...
Ahh, that does sound... interesting! Haha.
Will you do star wars
good tripod
Please do the 1934 wotw
If you put the golden ratio over the picture at 9:00 with the focus point on the hole, you will see that its actually well thought out.
Ah that's a good point! Also I realised after uploading that the 'empty space' shows the path of the heat-ray, so it's not so blank as I thought.
also don't get me started with my sis making Jeff Waynes or how you say the trimpod pushies
Hey pupbenny sorry for asking do you have any plans on making any oddworld content?
I believe so, but closer to the next oddworld game being released.
@@pupbenny thanks for the information bro👍
Ngl, they kinda look like the tops of rockets or a traffic cone with legs
Silly marshan :3
We makin it outta the arts & crafts room with this one 🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥💯💯 (The Martian.)
Explanation to why I said it looks like an arts and crafts project: The Martian looks like a small little fluffy ball with a smaller ball as a head then tiny googly eyes, then with some smaller strings glued on.
Ha, that's true! They're certainly very... original looking.
the martians are fish (trust me)
Tripods are cute and your videos are Amazing
Thank you!
i know i love wotw and i even made my own design for a video
SONIC XD
Hey pubenny and who ever is reading my comment They kinda look like they have faces because because the telescope like eyes and the gap between body and the spike part is kinda like the mouth of the face and there are little notches in then metal beneath and a above the gap kinda like sharp teeth
Oh yeah! I see what you mean, that's a great observation!
There is always godzilla bone godzilla punches them though immediately fall over
