May Nasr (Arabic: مي نصر; born 1965) is a Lebanese singer, musician and microfinancing consultant.[1] She was born in the Kingdom of Bahrain in 1965 and she got a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Beirut in 1987.

I`m european and christian , this broke my heart along with everything else that's happening there and in the world !
My great grandparents fleed from al sham, Palestine lebanon and syria, as the Europeans were overthrowing the sanjaks of turkey.
Now over 100 years My soul has dreamed of returning to al sham. My family forbade me to ever go. I have visited 65 countries yet never there.
It's sad that 100 years of European control of the middle east and still no peace.
I think it's true better to die fighting to ride our countries of the zionist powers

I am crying..
I like May Nasr a lot but this Palestinian folklore song is beautifully sung by so many Palestinian artists, my personal favorit is by Sanaa Moussa ... or Manal Mousa ... ou Nay Barghouthi.
Hello. All three artists were considered but Manal Moussa skips a few verses, Sanaa Moussa sings a couple differently, Lara Al-Olyan drops the middle verse altogether, and Nay al-Bargouti adapted the lyrics and changed them completely. May Nasr was the only one I could find that sang the whole song without omissions or adaptations.
Also, after struggling as to which edition I should add, I decided that May would be as good as any other. I wanted to show that the Palestinian struggle is the struggle of every Arab, especially during these. I want to add even more songs about Palestine sung by Arab artists from all over the Arab world, as a reminder to the world of our non-relenting devotion to Palestine and the Palestinians and their liberty.

It was not a critique, in fact so many Lebanese singers and composers have paid wonderful tributes to Palestine.
Among my favorite Arab tributes to Palestine: Umm Kulthoum singing 'asbaha 'andi alana bunduqiyyah, by Syrian poet Nizar Qabbani, I simply can't hear it without crying .... it would be a good choice for a future translation 😊
This is the best by excellence rendering . Palestine is part of the greater Syria.. we are All Syrians & Palestinian. And May is قومية سورية So Palestine is also her homeland. Terrible comment. تعصب تافه

I've read that the chorus translates to "mother, what's with the wind? Mother, what does it want from me?" Was that an inaccurate translation or do the translations differ depending on the dialect of the person singing at the time?? Either way, this is such a beautiful and soulful song!
It seems that you are right. I mistook هوا (wind) for هوى (love) and for the longest time I thought it read as "mawwal al-hawa" (the ballad of love; love for one's homeland).
I found both هوا and هوى used online but I honrstly feel like 'wind' translates better.
Embarrassing mistake on a song I really adore. Thank you for pointing it out to me.
