Women are tough enough and are physiologically very capable on endurance length courses. It’s all about beliefs and perception. Women have had decades and generations of believing they aren’t able so they don’t get involved from a young age, and so of course it naturally follows that they aren’t able as adults. But thanks to exceptional front runners like Jasmin Paris, beliefs will change and the tides will shift!

It’s not about being tough. Barkley is a mental game more so than other races. Mental, physical and navigational talents all rolled into the perfect race. Don’t hate Laz for his opinions on women in this race. Just as I won’t believe that women and men would meet in the same heavyweight boxing ring. Sometimes things are what they are. He’s only be sexist if he never let women try because they could never win. Then women would have an argument.

Truth is also there are too many childish things about this ' race' - it is more an endurance hike than a race truth be told. So I suspect many racers are simply not interested - basically it is a huge ego trip for this guy rather than real racing

@@macaronsareawesome3605 I never said, suggested or implied this was not about endurance - perhaps you have inferred that from my use of word 'hike'. A year ago, I guess I was focussed on the non racing aspects or things I consider silly - not knowing when race was going to start, having to look around in dark for find a book to take pages from, the silly letters of application. There are longer races now so it certainly isnt the toughest endurance race. Maybe I was harsher a year ago than I would be now but definitely he does like to impose his ego on the race. I did the basic maths and was surprised to realise that theoretically women can't finish this race on average. Let me explain: It is well known that in athletic disciplines women perform on average at 90% the level of men. Or in timed events this means they take roughly 110% of the men's time. Well, if you take the average time of a Barkley finisher (~57 hours 40 minutes) and multiply that by 110% you get 64 hours.
However, on the basis of the best male time (52 hours), a woman taking 10% more time should theoretically be able to cover the course in 57 hours 12 minutes.
I realise that the Barkley course varies from year to year and can be both longer in distance and also more or less technical. So, on an "easy" year and elite woman would theoretically be able to finish, but on average you shouldn't count on it.
Obviously these calculations shouldn't be taken too seriously. For one thing, the data pool is extremely limited since only 18 men have ever finished. Personally I imagine if this race had as many starters as, say, a Western States or a UTMB we would see a female finisher within 2 or 3 editions of the event.
