If the leads at Game Freak don't change or leave and how they handle development is not changed completely, if the quality of games continues to decline, Pokémon may lose its hold as the world's top IP. I feel like people now have a legitimate reason to hate the current state of the mainline games. Whenever Game Freak releases the next big game, people's first thought is going to be: Do I really want to risk spending money on a game that may be broken or is below average in terms of polish and quality, or buy this new game from a company that have had a good track record in recent years?
And remember: A game that never loses it's price. You won't find this game for 30 bucks or 15 bucks, it will always stay on a pretty high price, so it doesn't matter when you buy, you're gonna feel angry about it. The worst part is that the gameloop is FUN. But everything else, the quality we expect of a Nintendo game (I know it's GF who makes this), is not there. The fact that a 2019 Pokemon game looks better and runs better, just shows how badly they care for the state the game they release. And now they're working on a new game instead of fixing this one, which annoys me. Imagine if No Man's Sky had done the game back in 2016? Imaigne if they had just released two minor updates, then moved on to the next game? I'm sure as hell Hello Games would not exist right now.
i was pretty exited for this game when it first came out but i haven't been able to get passed the first gym as the frame drops just make it unplayable for me
I’ve never gotten physically nauseous from a game until I played this. I was SO excited the more I learned about this game, but I just can’t play it like this. I’ve considered emulating it just to run it properly but it’s such a shame I can’t just have it on the go and play with friends. After the wonderful 200 hours I spent on TotK, I think it’s time to retire the switch and wait for a switch 2. I have a pipe dream that it’ll run the same games at better frame rates and I can finally get to play this game.
I got it as a gift from a friend, and it's very fun. VERY FUN. It reminds me of two games that had similar launches: Final Fantasy XV: At launch it was unplayable, yet it was fun. And Final Fantasy Lightning Returns: The gameloop was fun but the entire presentation of the game, the entire world felt unfinished and rushed. It also reminds me a bit of No Man's Sky, but instead of rushing to make a new game, and release paid DLC instead of fixing the game, HG actually fixed NMS and gave more to us for free. What annoys me is literallly this seling so well, and they feeling comfortable to make a new game instead of fixing the one they have right now. A game that has the Nintendo Seal of approval. It's insane to me, really. I don't expect 60FPS, but for a system that can run Tears of the Kingdom in that level of quality, to run a game that looks like an alpha build of the finished game with horrible graphics AND FPS that dips all the time? What the hell? It's insane really. It shows Game Freak doens't study the Switch and didn't want to understand the hardware. They were too comfortable with the 3DS hardware, to bother understanding and learning the system, the ONLY SYSTEM they will release this game by the way, to make a game that uses everything the system can offer.
@advmx3 hey so I'm planning on buying a switch mainly for thr pokemon games and i really wanted to know your opinion, do you think the game has improved or is it the same thing that this video shows? (sorry for the bad English I'm from brazil lol)
came here hoping for some good news. nope. I haven't bought the DLC because the game ran so poorly but I was planning on getting it if/when they fixed it. I think at this point, it might be impossible. Whatever engine they used or the general foundation of the game is the problem. Especially when you consider that Bioshock games (all of them) and a game like outer worlds plays pretty fine on the switch. Not at a PC level, but playable. decent. and the graphics are well above this pokemon game. Its also confusing how Arceus ran so well and yet this one cant. It was the same devs right? idk. its confusing to me why this quality issue even exists.
the worst problem with the performance in the games is that the game slows down to match the framerate. Having played it on an emulator with a mod to adjust the game speed to the framerate makes it INFINITELY more fun to roam around.
Only thing that blows my mind more other than this game being shit is the notion that there are people who say this was better than sword/shield🤦🏻♂️ I just don’t get it
Well maybe it will run better on the Switch 2, but I honestly don't think so unless they remaster or change the game for the new console. Those framelimits especially on objects that are further away are hardcoded and they would need to change that function. No matter how powerful ur device would be it would always look like this unless u fix that code.
Running on subpar hardware at this point is the issue. They need a upgrade to keep up, sadly probably won’t happen since they say can’t compete with ps/xbox
Soooooo should i just stick with the version i have on PC or spent the $50 used for a switch version? Genuine question. I don't want to waste my money. Im broke hence why i have a copy on PC for free. It just doesn't have the DLC....also why tf did they start adding DLC to Pokemon I got it for Pokemon sword and I was like WTF why dlc and not just a complete game.
It’s such a shame - the Pokémon were so interesting and I wanted to play the game so badly, but now I think I’ll sell my unopened copy of Scarlet. Hopefully they learn from their mistakes in future games.
On yuzu and it's forks game runs a great but has glitches, on ryujinx game has no glitches but runs only a little better than switch. Though it's because of bad optimization
Arceus wasn’t good either lol, it was mediocre, Arceus is probably more repetitive then SV is in terms of gameplay and how many Pokémon the game expects you to catch and how the overall gameplay loop revolves around just catching Pokémon and gathering resources. Legends arceus didn’t look good plus the overworld is just devoid of content and things to do, there’s barely any cool looking towns, barely any way to engage with the overworld outside of just catching Pokémon and gathering resources and the fact their is literrally no well designed maze-like explorable dungeon already makes the game mid. Pokémon just isn’t suited for open world, plenty of other franchises went open world but we’re never suited for it, the only franchise to have ever gotten the open world concept done right on the first try was Elden Ring ironically enough with a lot of the secret hidden areas and chests to find. Pokémon Legends Arceus however didn’t offer more variety in its towns, the game barely had any content, hunting for shiny alphas was an absolute nightmare considering how bad the whole permutation shiny method truly is based on what I saw of the game. The overworld doesn’t really offer much outside of just catching wild Pokémon and gathering resources and even then the gameplay loop becomes way too repetitive to the point to where I just don’t want to replay the game anymore, because catching the same species of Pokémon 20 times for each dex entry is bound to become tiresome and repetitive. Heck past games allowed you to dive underwater and explorable underwater temples and we did not get that with PLA, in past games in the ds in gen 5 we had the option to dive underwater and explore a dungeon-like temple. Oh and I haven’t even mentioned how legends arceus straight up shinylockes every single mythical and legendary Pokémon for absolutely no logical reasoning, why in the world do I not have the option to shiny hunt old mythical and legendary Pokémon? That is clearly 100% absurd. The game is so flawed that if the next legends game is anything like PLA, it would end up equally just as bad and as Overrated as PLA was and still is.
@@Holy_Crusadercan I ask what you would find best and most enjoyable in the realm of pokemon - for an age old pokefreak and brand new owner of a Nintendo switch OLED. Only noting since I really like the pokemon formula (they are great at making rewarding feedback loops, making it impossible to put it down), like that which I found in pokemon shield - the pokemon game I LOVED (and am glad I researched all switch pokemon games before buying my intro-to-home-console-in-2024 pokemon game), albeit it’s noteworthy that I love the franchise so much (diehard fan since red and blue, yellow, green, and legit every gameboy-console-series-related-port ever made), that I wouldn’t mind venturing outside the box, a bit, in terms of what the game offers, how it plays, how it delivers, aaaand slightly willing to accept whether it works without glitching (providing it isn’t damningly painful to endure, especially after being spoiled with pokemon shield’s smooth flowing graphic immersion that makes me feel like I’m there)…? Perhaps also worth noting: I’ve bought and played Arceus as well, because I needed to play something after going through pokemon shield coz I was afraid of withdrawals, from “catch’em all” to “cold turkey” is too much for me to take with things just love like pokemon - and I needed something after I beat and then continued to fill out 200+ of the Pokédex on shield (which feels a bit vain after completing the whole game story quests…and DLC expansion content as well). I know I need to use paragraphs. I look manic, without them.
The poor technical performance of the game completely removed the need for a mount. It couldn't actually move fast enough due to the poor FPS and loading speeds. Such a disappointing game. Hopefully it's back compatible with the next console (and actually runs better).
What actually makes me angry about it, is that the gameloop is very good, but everything else is bad. It reminds me of Lightning Returns back in 2013. The code behind modern pokemon games is a mess. The switch has an outdated hardware (7 years old, duh) but it's more than capable of delivering a stable experience, as shown in the Zelda games. Overclocking the switch can easily make it run these pokemon games like it was supposed to. Nintendo just underclocks the system's RAM for some reason.

Sales has never equated to quality. Heck even Smt 5 vengeance on the switch runs better then Pokémon SV and Smt 5 can drop below 30 at times. The switch is outdated tech. Long overdue for stronger hardware, and the funny thing is that scarlet and Violet arn’t even graphically intensive game (I would much preferred if they had went the cartoonish art style route) instead of the uncanney visuals of SV.
