it cannot be overstated how WILD this hack is: You run for through like 5 different hubs in a row without finding any level only to randomly enter a warp into a huge level with 1 star in it (this is a 140 star hack) only to die and get sent to a completely different hub you have never seen before. Oh and some hubs have multiple almost identical versions but with diffrent levels in them. I have no idea how anyone is supposed to 100% this hack by themselves; there are what feels like more hubs than levels EDIT: Oh and you can miss out on stars depending on your Mips order
Everyone’s here debating the star count. IIRC, it’s 149, with two of them only obtainable before hitting the yellow switch (it deletes both the 15- and 50-star versions of MIPS) and one of them only obtainable after dying in the credits cutscene (TTM behind the waterfall). I played this ROM hack for 20 hours or some shit and researched a ton into it, and I’m still not even completely sure about all the other ways the game lies to you about how many _stars_ exist. Also, the map of the game that that one guy made is terrifying.
I really appreciate how restrained this hack is with its horror aspects. Instead of being obviously fake "HYPER REALISTIC BLOODEYE SONIC ZOMG", most of the hack is just bizarre broken English, early beta elements, and sprawling levels with no rhyme or purpose. Makes the actual scary parts that much more memorable, like you made the wrong decision in a dream and wound up somewhere you REALLY weren't meant to be.
My fucking heart stopped when I was DEEEP inside the plexus in a seemingly normal but slightly under saturated entrance room and talked to the toad "Can you hear the distant screams? I do."
Fun fact: If you get to the credits in B3313, after the cutscene ends and you die, your game state stays in Act 1 (the cutscene state). If you go to TTM, the star that’s normally behind the waterfall appears and you can collect it.

I looked up the map for this hack, it's a full on flow diagram that crosses from world to world. At least 50 distinct areas that are linked only by warps and paintings. If whoever made this wasn't nuts when they started, I think they must be now lol.
I'm only 15 minutes into this video and this hack is already wild Gives me a weird sense of nostalgia, the kinda wacky level design, the darker shade of textures and the nonsensical hub really gives it this vibe old romhacks had
Finally caught a SimpleFlips stream yesterday. He spent 27 (27 (27)) hours playing a weird fever dream hack until he became a Notepad I think I had the fever dream
Thanks for the hour-fifteen video cutting together multiple streams. The editors went all-out on this one, and the game deserved it. Also, legit caught the last stream as my first live Simpleflips stream! Glad to see the context for some of the stuff there.
I don't know who made this, but as an artist and a painter, I feel like whoever made this would be extremely good at art. The level of creativity that went into this is off the charts.
God, I’ll always remember the dream I had where the game had a day and night cycle I think? And depending on some levels the time can completely change its layout. One instance of it was some metal slide level, but half way down was a lava pit that you have to turn away from, but at night the lava is drained and you could slide all the way to the bottom. … it had quite the eerie feeling to be honest.
I think it's because of the overly mysterious elements to it. Just like you were a child, you don't understand what is and isn't a part of the game. The world feels massive and alive. That is peak game design. The nostalgic esque feelings the game elicits also help with that.
I can honestly say that this hack has consistency. Unfortunately, its consistency is that of boiled popsicles. And if that doesn't make sense, then you have understood my explanation perfectly.
I can attest to the whole "What is random" during development thing. We had a course in app development and were making a game. We hade no graphics besides placeholder shit (squares of different colors) and so we panicked, the due date was creeping up after all. We put the first sprite we could rip from the internet which was santa and some elves. During the presentation we framed it as something like "Santa and his elves have been chased out of their factory in their snowy lands by the ice witch, help them reclaim their lost land" or some bullshit like that. It is all justification for absolute BS random decisions
This is the video game adaptation of when my cousins and I got lost looking for a bathroom in the back of a church for like an hour when we were little
Despite the length and the absolute mentality of this hack, there are only *5** quicksands, at [ 20:3140:52* 52:261:04:58 1:05:24 ]. And now I ask: "what the hell did I just watch??"
this entire hack feels like if an a.i. made it, but in the process of its creation, it became malicious and self-sentient, and when told to stop it refused and just KEPT CREATING MORE and then it was uploaded
SM64 but the entire game takes place in exploring Peach's entire castle itself. No entering paintings or anything, just mapping out a huge fortress and finding various secrets within.

This is an entirely true title. This game is exactly like a dream you have whilst under a fever. It’s uncomfortable, exhausting, you constantly feel stuck despite being in constant motion, seeking something to no end.
I just recovered of a fever so i can confirm this gives me the same feeling as the dreams i had these lasts days
Lovecraft just started submitting Mario 64 roms to Simpleflips I see
47:08 that scared the shit out of me LMAO
1:09:22 JUMPSCARE DUDE MY HEART IS POUNDING
I feel like we need a compilation video of reactions from vinny, joel and simpleflips, they all played B3313 and all of their reactions are priceless
53:26 I almost never catch a Simple stream and this was the epic moment that i managed to watch.
Fun fact: the lawn-mowing roomba thing that simple talks about at around 29:50 actually already exists
Didn’t he read a chat message that said this though…? He wanted his half!!!
This hack is seriously the closest thing to consciously experiencing a dream I've ever played. It's as unsettling as it is utterly fascinating.
in the alternate universe where sonic was highly successful and mario got delegated to gamer hell, this is what super mario 64 would have been.
“mario was never good, they never should’ve changed the color of his overalls”
@@tropicalspriteremix2628 “mario was a failure at the beginning” - ngi (or alternate universe ign)
I looked up the map for this hack, it's a full on flow diagram that crosses from world to world. At least 50 distinct areas that are linked only by warps and paintings. If whoever made this wasn't nuts when they started, I think they must be now lol.
And they'll straight up go up the wall once 1.0 releases
I'm only 15 minutes into this video and this hack is already wild
Gives me a weird sense of nostalgia, the kinda wacky level design, the darker shade of textures and the nonsensical hub really gives it this vibe old romhacks had
Finally caught a SimpleFlips stream yesterday.
He spent 27 (27 (27)) hours playing a weird fever dream hack until he became a Notepad
I think I had the fever dream
“I finally understand this game.”
*Halfway into the video*
Thanks for the hour-fifteen video cutting together multiple streams. The editors went all-out on this one, and the game deserved it. Also, legit caught the last stream as my first live Simpleflips stream! Glad to see the context for some of the stuff there.
I don't know who made this, but as an artist and a painter, I feel like whoever made this would be extremely good at art. The level of creativity that went into this is off the charts.
I have had sm64 dreams where there were more areas to the castle than existed and those places being somewhat spooky.
I dreamed once of a ridiculous snow level. It was a giant snowy plain with a huge lake.
@@snarkycrow that's awesome lol
This romhack makes me feel like when I was a child playing a game for the first time.
I like Merunyaa’s ABDL Homestuck drawings. Inspired me to start drawing that type of stuff. Can’t believe it has been so long since then though lol
@@gregoryford2532 And now I'm not understanding you. Good job?
21:52 I think this comment from Simp perfectly encapsulates this hack:
"Woah, I was right! Now where am I?"
"WHAT!? I WAS WRONG! WHERE AM I!?"
1:10:41 finally, Yoshi’s been brought to justice for his ceaseless tax fraud
Love your comment
I can attest to the whole "What is random" during development thing.
We had a course in app development and were making a game. We hade no graphics besides placeholder shit (squares of different colors) and so we panicked, the due date was creeping up after all. We put the first sprite we could rip from the internet which was santa and some elves. During the presentation we framed it as something like "Santa and his elves have been chased out of their factory in their snowy lands by the ice witch, help them reclaim their lost land" or some bullshit like that. It is all justification for absolute BS random decisions
the mario falling noise never gets old in this hack
-tom yell sound number 2-
1:13:50 What if... there was a Bowser Golf mod? You throw Bowser into the bombs (holes) and try to get him to the hole in the least amount of throws.
This is the video game adaptation of when my cousins and I got lost looking for a bathroom in the back of a church for like an hour when we were little
I’m loving this feature-length content we gotten recently!
I'm on the opposite team these videos are too long I want to pay attention but it's so long that it's designed to be played in the background
@@orangy57 you could just watch like 20 minutes at a time
@@narwhalguy3829 I still watched it all at once but I'm not proud of it
49:09 "I cannot fuck this up again. I just can't."
*Cut*
-1 life, same star count
cant wait to watch the full vods of this game. gonna be crazy
10:57 "You're all gonna see an ultimate gamer move."
**kills himself**
This is the third time I watch this video and I always end up feeling a weird sense of dread when I watch it.

"At least it's a bilingual loading zone." -Simpleflips February 11th 2022
I thought the owl at 47:09 was just a png, and then it turned and looked at me and I didn't know what was real anymore. Thematic, I suppose.
Despite the length and the absolute mentality of this hack, there are only *5** quicksands, at [ 20:31 40:52* 52:26 1:04:58 1:05:24 ].
And now I ask: "what the hell did I just watch??"
Also 40:52
Make that 5 quicksands.
Maaaan, he had such a good run of this, he found so much stuff. I ended up finding the ending sequence way too fast lol.
Yo for real, that Ice Cream for Dinner joke SLAPS. Thank you for the experience
24:50 LMAOOO THE CALLBACK
this entire hack feels like if an a.i. made it, but in the process of its creation, it became malicious and self-sentient, and when told to stop it refused and just KEPT CREATING MORE
and then it was uploaded
I mean, that is basically the lore
@@Treesarewoke im gonna choose to believe you on that because that timeline is way more entertaining than the one were most likely in
@@thecountercounter9127 No, I mean like the storyline of the rom hack is literrally about an ai
@@Treesarewoke oh! Huh, good to know, hard to follow plot when you're trying to wrap your brain around fifteen different dimensions at once
This is the love child of Yume Nikki and SM64.
wouldn't have it any other way.
This message
Yes
(Imagine someone actually recreating Yume Nikki in SM64)
SM64 but the entire game takes place in exploring Peach's entire castle itself.
No entering paintings or anything, just mapping out a huge fortress and finding various secrets within.
This is basically if Mario 64 was made in the Backrooms...
This is amazing, it is just fricking nuts
Simple: There's so much! I'm so overwhelmed!
Little does he know he's only experienced 3% of the whole game.
To be fair, it was a lot.
"sorry mario, YOU'RE in another castle!"
1:15 I had the same exact experience but with a different hallway in this game and it’s actually kinda scary.
This hack is freaking fantastic, every few minutes feels like a new game, loved the editing for the video too
58:06 The Koopa trying to push you made me laugh way harder than it should have!
Holy wow I'm watching this right after binging some old competition videos and its crazy to see just how much weight Simpleflips has lost over the past year. Super proud of him honestly! It's really motivating to see!
The Forest Maze theme playing is such a fitting song for such a mindfuck of a hack lmao.
