Wow, such a huge group of sketchers! And what a wonderful location! It's because of you that I found Urban Sketchers of Houston. It's so great to get together with other artists, see how all these different people approach the same area. So much fun!

Nice! Amazing how your water colour drawings turns out. Oh my parallel pen that day wasn’t modified. Just a regular 2.4mm. But mod one is interesting too:)

Oh wow! Who is that with the sketches of Himeji Castle and a Tori gate in their sketchbook? I'd love to follow them on instagram!

Hi Teoh. You mentioned the problem with the parallel pen only having two line widths? My artist friend Sarah has two of these and manages to get several different line weights.
Maybe it's just a question of playing more with the pen, like using the edge of the nib as well as front and back, to see what it can do? It was a joy to watch her, and see her learn to draw with this oddity - especially as she lives in Scotland (Burns' country), it was only 4 degrees .and she was outside when she played with it, not indoors in the comfort of her studio!
Hope you find what you're looking for with this pen! I'd love to see you make the same happy discoveries as Ms Burns did! 😊

It's thin and thick. If you want other line widths, you have to make a conscious effort to hold the pen in very specific way. It can be done but it's not easy.

@@teohyc Hi, again, Teoh. Is it really any harder than learning to make different lines and marks with a paint brush, or a marker? Or learning how to change our grip on our pencils to make different marks / depths of shading (my students find that _really_ challenging at first!) or learning to use a fountain pen 'the wrong way up' for drawing. or an angled Fude nib?
I think it would be a shame for your parallel pen to languish on the shelf or in the drawer, because I think it looks really fun and useful. I haven't bought one, though I was / am really tempted, because I don't use pen and ink very often, and also, I'm on a very strict replacement no-buy because of budgetary issues - like the cost of living crisis' effect on a basic pension... so I'd love to see what you could do with it with a little practice, because you have such skill with a standard fountain pen.
I've emailed you the info for Sarah. 😊
