He had this all wrong. The best way to find “extreme metal” is to call a song the heaviest thing you’ve heard and check the comment section.
Ah what do you know? You're just a core kid
"Extreme Metal" is basically an umbrella term, so that's probably where you're getting tripped up. The melodeath stuff would fall under extreme metal. It's basically just any metal that happens to have the more "extreme" elements (growled/screeched vocals, blast beats/fast double bass, tremolo picking, etc.).
Same with “heavy metal” a “genre” or label, I dislike because it’s super vague. All Metal is heavy except maybe Doom Metal. It comes down to HOW heavy.
@@SunRayz3r what doom metal have you heard to make you say that?
I second that. @@digitalmortality2001
@@SunRayz3rdisagree 😅 hugely. That's like saying all hip-hop or rap goes hard! Lol that's laughable dude. ... Be more realistic
@@digitalmortality2001 Bell Witch
It's night time for me. No wonder you're called Nik Nocturnal.
Same here 😂
@@arvexx69 ;)
It's 1.20 am here rn
@@ArcherBasist same for me, coincidence.
@@ArcherBasist 0:34 here
No tech death bands in an "extreme metal" playlist is criminal. Spotify never fails to frustrate
There is tech death in the playlist for me. The playlist is different for each person.
It was missing some mathcore as well. Something like Car Bomb or Dillinger Escape Plan definitely belongs there.
I saw some of the new Suffocation in the list
I saw alkaloid at at around 3:30 dont know if they are necessarily tech death though
There was quite a few
Defeated Sanity, Disgorge, Brodequin, Ecchymosis, Excoriation, Delusional Parasitosis, Mortal Decay, Gorevent etc.
Putridity
This is what what I was hoping for but not surprised by the lack of it. Excresence is amazing as well
Devourment
@Hauntingthechappell best band ever. Also Cephalotripsy, Orchidectomy, Liturgy, Internal Bleeding, and Devourment
Its definately partially made for you because for me the top five are Necrowretch, Misery Index, Nile, Gorgoroth and Immortal with pretty much no core throughout the playlist.
Nile was always a GO/TO for me every year around ages 14-16. Been 19-23. They are amazing
Yeah these are all whipped by algorithms for each person
You are correct. I have rock playist made for me by spotify and it that list has Orbit Culture on it hahahaha!!
Right, the playlist's stuff is more deathcore, beatdown and melodic death metal than extreme shit like tech death, butral, deathgrind and any subgenre of black metal
@@josejesushernandezbustillo9139 I agree, 100%. I mean if we’re talking just technical death metal that could be its own sub genre. If we’re talking blast beat death core that’s another group of bands. You can’t really make a top 10 of extreme metal bands these days there’s just so many bands. You could do a top 50 may be a top 20 you would have to include every sub genre of metal imo
I think they just defined Extreme metal as anything with harsh vocals
yeah, probably
i could find more extreme metal in my dads garage than in this playlist
yeah spotify’s playlists are straight ass
Probably "Pornografiti" on cassette
It's just your dad banging his car with a wrench from frustration.
Real
Fat fucking cornflakes😭😭😭
I’m never gonna unhear this now😭
If you knew Russian language you could die from cringe after understanding the lyrics. But STP is still sick af
idk why but i just dont hear it i always hear the actual lyrics
Crispy cornflakes are better than soggy cornflakes.
The thing about extreme metal is that you have to dig into the underground of it to find the gems
I actually don't think this is true. There's lots of relatively unknown bands, but bands that get popular while being "true" tend to be very good. I think the relative elitism of black and death metal fans helps with this.
I bought a random ahh cd (i never heard of the band before) last month and i actually loved the songs. It was satanic north
I think thats the case for metal in general. Theres a lot of lame popular bands in the gatekeeper bible that are just so mid its insane. There are people that legit go off on UA-cam comments for years about how Cattle Decapitation "went soft". Bruh..........
traditionally extreme metal just meant Black Metal, Thrash Metal, Doom Metal, or Death Metal. it has nothing to do with how heavy a song is or anything else. It's extreme metal if it is in one of those genres
@@ryantannar5301the definition according to some fans is, the one subgenre thats expanding from traditional metal trope like darker music no clean vocals and shit
Extreme metal = anything off of Strapping Young Lad's Alien album. Or City.
What blew my mind is that that Goblin of a man is Devin Townsend who looks (these days) much more like an IT Technician lol
@@zombne If it makes you feel any better, Gene Hoglan did the drumming for SYL.
I came here to say the exact same thing. City is the definition of extreme metal
Riiight? They're like the prime example
no
What a poser, he keeps using brutal and extreme interchangeably
DSBM is Depressing Su!c!dal Black Metal. It's a genre of black metal. Usually known for their wails and low growls. And the topics of loss, hate, death, and sadness.
Decalius
@@Whitehot724 Decalius-Shotgun. Perfect example
Amazing genre. I love Xasthur, Leviathan, Shining, Aaskereira, Gris, Sacrimoon, Lifelover, Psychonaut 4 and Make a change...
@@Hunter-jv1ld fr tho
I always argue for niche metal sub-genres but I honestly feel like that's just taking it a little far lol. I could be wrong but I don't really see a large enough difference between DSBM and regular black metal for their to be a distinction.
Nik is looking especially ghostly today
Mors Principium Est!! Such a great band!
I swear. The album "Seven" is a guitar masterpiece
My xbox gamertag is named after one of their songs
@@Idyliss_OfficialDawn of the 5th Era is their best.
@@kryten88 its also great but hard disagree for me😭
@@Idyliss_Official 😱
Blackbraid, Ulcerate, Civerous, HOULE, Thou, Blood Incantation, AKHLYS, 200 stab wounds, Tzomplanti, Spectral Wound, Kvaen…these are the extreme bands you need to check out
You know what's up, tons of good stuff here. If you haven't heard them, I highly recommend Cave Sermon, too. (In my opinion) they put out one of the best albums of this year
@@AgainstTheeWickedlyMusic I’ll check them out!
@@user-qv4ym6cq2c hope you like it! It's a really cool blend of death metal and post-metal, with some sprinklings of ambient and noise. Really unique stuff
Fucking love Blackbraid. Easily some of the best black metal.
@@metalben005 agreed
None of these are really "extreme". I would check out brutal death metal like: the old stuff from Devourment, Demilich, Disgorge, Defeated Sanity, old stuff from Severe Torture, Mortician, Christ Denied, old stuff from Skinkess, Mortal Decay and Brodequin.
Nik is allergic to real metal.
Try Anaal Nathrakh, they're my go-to extreme metal band.
Good choice,bro)
I was hoping they would show up. Definitely a top recommendation.
Gnaw at their toungs
OMG they're so insanely good! Just no bad albums at all.
so much yes
I want a full DSBM vid pleaaaase !
Yeaaaah,,, Happy Days, Shining, etc
No.
Bro is not a metalhead
What's that again? Listening to your top 100 metal artsits and you are allowed to call yourself that?
Bro, the lostprophets reference lol 1:05
The day you embrace extreme metal you go from being just another heavyhead to an actual metalhead
Creeping Death is badass! New album is fantastic!
Great band with zero imagination for a band name.
Extreme metal is the umbrella term for what thrash inspired--death and black metal and their derivatives, and the occasional hard-to-classify things with similarly harsh, high intensity traits from black metal/death metal.
I know they have been gone for a while but The Dillinger Escape Plan is still the most extreme band I have ever seen in person.
Extreme hardcore
Wooooo!!! Nik trying not to be a poser!
All that and I saw no Emperor?? Nope.
sees extreme metal
doesn't see defeated sanity
day ruined
As someone who mainly listens to and writes extreme metal, I got no problem with metalcore. Listen to what you love man.
Yeah. I'm gonna be 33 in October, been listening to Death Metal and Black Metal since I was 15, and Knocked Loose's new album is most likely my AOTY
@@charlespeter5610 I still need to listen. I keep forgetting
@@ArtemusCain it is *quite* good.
Spotify also makes an “Extreme Metal Workout” playlist that usually goes pretty hard
Brazil loves u Nik ❤🤘
Never heard of Creeping Death before and I'm glad I found them. THANK YOU NICK!
Discover "War Metal" next.
Petition to color correct Nik so hes not a vampire always
I'm sorry, but that's impossible my lord

Is he not a vampire??
Then what’s the point of him being nocturnal if he’s not a vampire?!😂
@@Novenae_CCGhe’s not a vampire but he feels like one
@@AndrewDembouskiSometimes he sleeps all day because he hates the sun-liiiiiight
Crypta are great, they're like a nice gentle introduction to old school death metal and they led me on to many other bands of that genre
The most unextreme extreme metal playlist ever😂
Funny how within the same day, I'm listining to Volumes, Erra, etc, and then the next hour I have Abominable Putridity and Carcass playing
Looking for "extreme metal" in Spotify is like going to a indie rock concert and expecting cannibal corpse to show up
Extreme metal? Should probably check out the New Wave of British Death Metal (NWOBDM) bands, like Celestial Sanctuary, Mortuary Spawn and Vacuous. That is probably where the UK extreme metal scene is today, along with the older, active extreme metal acts like Cradle of Filth and My Dying Bride.
Back at it again with the spoopafoo
Mors Principium Est is indeed melodic death ^_^ go for Belphegor , Gorgoroth, Watain, Cattle Decapitation, KATAKLYSM, Behemoth, B'aâ, Aara, Firtan etc ...aaannd Bel'akor ❤❤❤❤
@@simonika77 are you saying Bel'akor would fall under extreme metal? (huge fan of theirs btw)
Finally somebody who knows their stuff (elitist mode off ;D
Cattle decap and Behemoth are not very extreme
@@SBrown-ti8xeextreme metal is not a genre rather a group of metal genres that really starts with thrash metal going down through death, black, doom, etc.
Both Behemoth and Cattle Decapitation fall into that category.
1:30 can't decide if I hear a tired seagull or a thirsty viking before drinking
Analepsy needs to be on that playlist
So nobody ever heard of watain? I love occult black metal
Crypta. Insane band
Nice to see Slow Dancing in the Dark. I've had that song on repeat a lot for the last few weeks. Wouldn't be surprised if it becomes one of my top 5 songs on this year's Spotify Wrapped.
Was Mirar not enough?
3:30 Ey, Blood Red Throne on this list! Great death metal with that old school feel that still manages to evolve and experiment - amazingly talented musicians, the lot of them.
their old material was groove and heavy AF, but they got boring afterwards.
No Primitive Man Detected - spotify playlist rejected
3:48 yeah, Amazon and Spotify started boosting smaller Bands in some rare instances. The Band my Drum Teacher plays in (Stagewar) was once on "the 100 METAL" on Amazon and I think also on the Thrash Metal Spotify playlist like 5 years ago.
Was there no Mayhem or Deicide or Death on the list? Posers!! 🤘
I saw this playlist but was too scared to listen to it until now, might listen to it properly tomorrow
“I just wanna hear him say fat fucking Cornflakes” killed me 😂😂
LETS GO NEW NIK VIDEO
Akouphenom and Goatwhore are like the only extreme metal there
man i wish you made longer videos... Your content is enjoyable and unique
Didn't expect to see Kaunis Kuolematon here. Positively surprised!
saw Exmortus back in 2014 in a bar I could fit in my apartment. one of the best shows ive ever been to
90% of these sound like they're on Nuclear Blast
I'm starting to think Nic is actually a zombie
If you want to listen to extreme metal try bands as rectal smegma , stillbirth, embrace your punishment, volière, klysma, brutal sprincter, organectomy and/or dying fetus just a few names in the grind , slam and deathcore
Axiomatic Dematerialization, Insect Inside, Distaste, Beneath The Massacre, Feastem, Drastus, Dying Fetus, Avslut...... extreme to some, bedtime music for me
You should listen to the old vulvodynia
DSBM is pretty awesome if you're going through some shit. Extremely cathartic. Not an everyday listen, though, for sure. Being that depressed all the time does shit to your brain.
Doesn't quite match the description imo but this is a playlist of BANGERS
gorgasm, lividity, glossectomy, disconformity, cephalic carnage, nails, rotten sound, vomit remnants, eternal suffering, dehumanized, stabbing, devourment, disavowed, embalmer?!?!
What i like about extreme metal is like you said: the vocals are more supporting and the focus is on the instrumentals. Extreme metal is a very broad term tho. The songs you picked are more melo death, and certainly it is extreme metal too, but theres missing a lot of stuff. IDK if you need more suggestions but if you do check out: Blood Incantation, Spirit Possession, Black Curse, Yellow Eyes, Ultha, Fluisteraars, Division Speed, Necros Christos, Tomb Mold. These are some of my favourites. And if you also count funeral doom to extreme metal, check out ahab and bell witch.
Extreme fun metal things here 😎🤘
Where Bolt Thrower?
Also, Nile goes hard
Grindcore like Nails, Magrudergrind, etc is always so refreshing in a way, especially with all the hyperprocessed metal these days
grindcore isnt metal tho
Jailcore 😂you went fully Nocturnal on that one 👌🏿🔥
Damn Nik looks like a ghost in this video. Someone take this man to Miami beach to get some sun
Nik I love your channel and your funny
AGRICULTURE MENTIONED they’re so fucking good
Orbit Culture is honestly one of the best metal bands out there
Technically speaking, some Five Finger Death Punch songs would count as extreme metal. Extreme metal is a blanket term for thrash metal, death metal, black metal, doom metal and I think any subgenres and fusion genres spawned from them as well.
just recently got into sanguisugabogg so I'm kinda ready for this lol
Excellent video, bro.🤘💀🤘I love black metal,I've got to see Mayhem, Marduk, Immortal,Dark throne,Dimmu,Dark Funeral,Watain.I really want to see Blackbraid. There's some amazing new death metal bands, such as 200 Stab Wounds, Summoning the Lich, Gatecreeaper,Frozun Soul.If you like melodic death, check out Dark Tranquility,Scar Symmetry is cool too.Too many bands to mention that are really good and don't get much airplay.🤘💀🤘
“Black, Death, and Beyond” is that a store?
If STP Conflict os here, then Lorna Shore To The Hellfire NEEDS to be here
Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia - one of the perfect albums. Glad to see a song from this album here :)
Nick: Agriculture? naw.
me, who add Agriculture to favs: wtf, huh? ⛄
I like deathcore and shit for the very reason that vocals are more supportive.
My wife says she doesnt want to listen to music she cant understand the words to.
I reply, its not about the lyrics. Its about the heavy riffs and aggressive vocals. And you can understand the lyrics if you listen, and a lot of the time, its brutal as fuck.
Like one of my favorite albums of all time, Whitechapels Somatic Defilement. The lyrics are all shit about mutilating woah mans corpses and shit.
check out the lyrics to shroud of encryption
Love the deftones mertch nik👍👍👍
Extreme metal bands that are "extreme enough for you to stop being a poser" - Abruptum, Havohej, Imperial Triumphant, Akhlys, Spectral Voice, Khanate,
Veeeeeery good list bro. Serious shit there. Tho KHANATE aren’t really metal (at all) and have more affiliation with the post-hardcore/drone scene. Fabulous band. I would add DAMAAR because they played pure unapologetic unadulterated WAR METAL
Oh how the humidity is getting to you 😂
Nik! Fun metal things have happened!
INK just did a song with reel big fish!
Too bad that Nervosa song got overlooked. It's definitely worth the listen. Their new Jailbreak album is a lot of fun. Gotta love the lighter side of thrath
Extreme metal is an umbrella term for all the underground metal genres of the late 80s and 90s, so any death and black derivatives count. Doesnt sound too extreme today, but back when thrash and glam were mainstream they were.
0:48 the lighting actually makes him look like a vampire
Mors Principium Est is a discovery for me. What a banger
Small band called enemy crucifixion goes hard af
Svalbard - Faking It is one of the best metal songs I've heard over the last few years.
Is it just me or does the lighting kinda make nik look like a vampire 😂
Grifteskymfning, Taake, Helleruin...
NOT ENOUGH SLAM NOT ENOUGH SLAM NOT ENOUGH
My favourite melodic extreme metal bands are children of bodom, at the gates, arch enemy, cradle of filth, strapping young lad
Death metal is my home metal genre and of course Spotify would classify it as "extreme" lmao, so corny. But good video. Love some of the bands featured (Crypta, Creeping Death, Rivers of Nihil) but yeah a lot of this stuff was still too melodic. Children of Bodom is as far as I'll go with that. Wish you had clicked on the Fulci song those dudes go hard.
Would love to see Nik doing a deep dive in DSBM playlists ngl
