I finished this game recently and I can’t even begin to describe how amazing it was. Probably my favorite visual novel of all time.
I never expected it to be as good as it was, one of the best stories i've experienced for sure
Same just finished it a month ago. The experience was out of this world.
What’s your competition?
true masterpiece
I think we can sell Fata Morgana to Garnt if we tell him there's incest in it 🗿
nbr? dropped
@@JesujejIt's classified as horror for a reason
@@Ash_Wen-li haha
Its more taboo incest than fetish incest which makes better
No way we are selling it on that ☠️
I'm surprised Garnt has never heard of Fata Morgana tbh
They’re normies
Garnt does not play visual novels, that's more of a Joey thing. so i am more surprised that joey didn't hear about it.
@@zetsuu1106 Past Joey would've prolly known about it, the present CEO Joey, eh, idk
@@ashishbarthwal6961 the original fata morgana was released in 2016 internationally for microsoft windows by MangaGamer. Which is why i am surprised that joey didn't know about it because he was at his peak weeb stage around those years
Bc its a visual novel for "normal people". Which is not getting much traction among visual novel lovers
This got a good amount of the VN community mad at trash taste lol.
Surprised to see none of the boys ever heard about Fata. I thought at least Joey would've been familiar with it
I liked Fata a lot, but I’d say if they were going to include them, MLA or Umineko should probably have been there.
@@wb5872While I kinda agree, Umineko being 120 hours and MLA requiring reading Muv-Luv makes them a lot less appealing for a general audience than Fata Morgana, which is a great complete experience in a (for VNs) relatively compact frame of 40 hours. For Metacritic it's also important that it completely lacks anime bullshit.
Rightfully so, Fata Morgana is an amazing story, and especially the Requiem for Innocence prequel VN and Dreams of the Revenant ending hit *_hard_*
Read Muv-Luv
@@wb5872 unfortunately I don't have the time available for that...
A novel beating out every other actual game... Fair enough.
Considering how many goated VNs there are, that’s not a surprise
Must be a good novel.
@@theashen2019It’s an amazingly good story with really immersive music and a unique visual style
It's peak fiction tho, since people usually fight to list it in their manga top 10 and get told "it's a game" then i guess it can only rank as a game (although it is hilarious that it's like that)
I'm shocked none of them knew Fata Morgana 😮
The House in Fata Morgana is a must read imo. One of the best stories in animanga/adjacent stories (Shoutout to Umineko too)
I don't really think of it as a video game though.
Does fata morgana has a manga? Ik uminkeo has one and its good (atleast from what i've heard)
@@hellking711Umineko has a manga that's a fine alternative (you lose out on voice acting and music but it's considered a good adaptation)
Fata Morgana has a light novel and manga I believe but the only way to properly experience it is the Visual Novel
@@Ash_Wen-li sad fact is i cant afford VN( dont have enough storage) if i can play without downloading it like i watch manga or animes then i'd 've but idt thats possible and i've already listened to quite a few umineko osts which r godly so won't really miss em
Do u know if the LN or manga of fata morgana covers everythin or not?
Read Muv-Luv
@@hellking711Not sure. All I know is that they're not ideal adaptions. I think you're better off watching a playthrough than reading it elsewhere
Masked man made a video on this sometime ago. It really is good
as a person of russian descent i must say that i absolutely love the house in fata morgana, it's one of my favourite games ever
the story is amazing, english translation is very good, very poetic and emotional, i cried on multiple occasions
it also has absolutely majestic soundtrack tat fits the story perfectly, each chapter has different music
i played it recently and its was the first time in years when i literally couldn't shut up about something with my friends until they agreed to play it too haha...
i can see why someone from russia could say something negative about the game though, happy pride month guys
It was kinda strange to see negative reviews from Russians; this vn is one of the few which has an official Russian localisation.
@@sdd264 I didn't know that! Interesting. Maybe I'll check it out, thank you
The House in Fata Morgana is peak fiction, glad it got a mention here because it's old-ish already and it might need a 2nd wind for new potential readers, read it, dew it :D
7:23 That Zelda game came out. It was the trailer for Twilight Princess were the audience was going crazy over and Miyamoto jumped out with sword and shield. The other thing was the Spacworld 2000 Zelda Tech Demo that wasn't a game just a demo. But as far as I know there is no audience reaction for that available
Honestly i feel like the style of Visual Novels is just a cool way to tell a story. I think stories in that style would be great, even with zero interaction. Just a book but with little graphics and maybe animations throughout.
Not sure if they could still be sold as "Video Games" like that anymore though lol. So a Virtual Graphic Novel i guess?
VNs are in many cases better then „normal“ games. I don’t know why the boys are so surprised.
Is this a joke?
@@joxbarros5054 maybe you should try proper VNs before you ask that
@@BQD_Central And you should try to play a proper game. VNs have way more in common with books than video games, which is why I asked if you were joking.
@@joxbarros5054 VNs are the japanese equivalent to Adventure games. Are they also "not games"?
But go on, go grind 5 bear asses or something if you think that this is a "proper game". You have no idea what you are talking about, since you didn't confirm that you actually played a VN before.
@@BQD_Central VN are 80% book 20% game most of the time, some are 100% books/novels like saya no uta, umi neko even morgana is a book/novel. A game can be a VN, but a VN cant always be a game. I dont know why u suggest me to grind 5 bear assess, I guess u must enjoy griding animals in you spare time. And ur the one who has no idea what ur talking about, if u think most vn are better games than ''normal games'' than ur talking out of your ass, since most of them even arent even games. If people think that all vn are video games than with should include power point presentations as video games as well. And I dint say Vn are inferior if that's what u think I meant in my previous comment. Oh to answer your question, yes I do play vn( a lot actually), Im playing Ao no kanata extra 2 at the moment, then im going to replay ck2 with the HIP mod for the thousand time.
it's crazy that they haven't heard about fata morgana, giving how hugely praised it is
You dont really hear of it outside of vn circles though
Fatamoru! its so gooooooood
Emma underwater escort mission, yes that was in MGS2. God I hated it as a kid.
i'm reading it right now, its peak ngl and i'm on door 5 so i expect kino in the other doors
Door 5 is where it picks up, after that it's amazing and even the first 3 doors get better when you know the full story
@@Ash_Wen-li nice to know that
It's pretty good
If you liked Fata Morgana you should 100% read Umineko by the way
And Muv-Luv
@@wb5872ngl the original muv luv is too tough for me to get through
Garnt's mind must have blacked out the fact the underwater escort mission was in MGS2. But jokes aside, the last location of MGS2 goes insane. I started Substance when I was 9, and I was too afraid of the 4th wall breaking to finish or even touch the game for YEARS. Then, i gathered the courage when I was 11, finally realizing it wasn't real. Then, a certain button mashing part was so hard I needed my adult cousin to do it, and he even had tries several times and lock in and control his breath. Then, we got to the 25 MGRs fight under-equipped, and we thought the game was impossible. It took me weeks to figure out how to beat that boss. In all fairness, I played on Hard because I had already beaten MGS3 on extreme and beat it without understanding the name gimmick, but still. Then one day, the cutscene played, and all I remember after is the final boss. MGS3 and MGS4 are almost equally my favorite games ever.
I really don't see why it gets compared to Umineko, but it's still cool to see a visual novel get such high praise.
They're both highly regarded in the West. And they both have an evil Witch character
Wow. Me, a diehard morrowind fell the need to defend Skyrim.
The House of Fata Morgana is not just the best visual novel but the best story of all time. Not only that it sequel its even better, and then its the third game which is a great ending to the series.
If you like visual novels or great stories in general PLAY IT!
Heck you like music in gaming? YOU ARE GOING TO LIKE THIS! Do yourself a favor, and play this amazing game!
Plus those three choices are the best choices you can make to the great twist. I like choices in Visual Novels, but the are visual novels that have like dozen of choices and yet.....they do nothing for the overall story or do not make sense or are gory for the sake gore. These choices are actually really good!
Now I will just wait for one of them to play Fata Morgana (Probably Garnt)
I feel MGS4 gets overlooked so much.
When you realise that MGS4 is actually a visual novel
Yess it’s amazing
i wanna start the metal gear series after hearing this. Was playing Revengeance some hours ago lol
Do it, join the ride
@@juice6521 haha i will play them after i finish up with the souls games!
Garnt gave kind of a bad explanation of mgs2 (and yes, it is the one with the underwater escort mission).
MGS2's artistic significance with Raiden lies in its postmodern framing that can only be achieved through the medium of being a videogame, and specifically one that is a sequel to a highly acclaimed one. To boil it down, Raiden is meant to represent YOU, the player. YOU are not Solid Snake, just a giant fan who played and enjoyed MGS1 and it's events. The game even goes out of its way to have you enter your name and info at the start of the Plant mission on a terminal, and in the final cutscene, Raiden throws away the dog tags with your name to become his own person. It goes deeper than that, much deeper, but I'm using this as an example for the tip of the iceberg that is MGS2.
The House In Fata Morgana is definitely one of the best VN's out there. Such a great story with well written characters and an emotional soundtrack. The only other VN that beats this personally is Umineko but they are both MUST READS!
I read all 140 hours of Umineko and it just got worse the further along you got.
@@Regithegamer Went right over your head
I'm so happy all the comments mention how good Fata Morgana is. Not only the story is spectacular, the writing is incredible
And it deserves it. The House in Fata Morgana is an absolute GOAT of an experience, regardless of how interactive it is.
One of my faves! Everyone must read The House in Fata Morgana. If you like Shakespearean tragic heroes, gothic romance and melodrama that’s dark and heavy with off-putting psychological elements and deeply-entrenched trauma, then you'll love this! Michel is one of my favourite characters of all time. It's the type of story that pierces your heart with flawed and frighteningly human characters dealing with the costs of their actions. After you read the main game, read the prequel sequel "Requiem of Innocence" (DO NOT look it up under any circumstances until you've finished the main game because it spoils everything).
This franchise and Umineko are magnificent stories that are totally worth all the hours you put in it.
I like how Connor talks about worldbuilding as if he did pay attention to anything other then gameplay of ER. Also just because GRR was involved in creating the world of ER doesn't automaticaly make it good
Also how he skipped most of the dialog when he played FF14 and complained constantly about why he has to talk to npcs when it's all there for worldbuilding.
@@XenoSamurai yeh which is why I don't watch him play anything on stream, especially story heavy games, he just complains constantly and skips everything
The man likes flashy things so it's not surprising that he complains about it
Nah he has improved and act reads the story now
Hop on Umineko the greatest piece of fiction ever written
Manu-sama... we must gatekeep
Eh, it was alright.
Oh nah... Manu 😭
Manu please have my children 🥵🥵🥵
I love seeing you everywhere spreading the good word of Umineko!
Absolutely deserved. I was super skeptical when I saw it last year in the top 25. Played it and yeah, one of the greatest stories ever told in the medium
I don't know it it's my favourite VN, but it's definitely locked into my top 10. Not a bad thing to say about it, I'm just disappointed the author has released nothing original for like a decade.
fata and umineko SWEEP!!!
I swear these are the only two VNs people have read nowadays lmao
@@KiruaZorudihi as they should!!
Do people forget that meme meant something before internet culture.
9:00 says the guy who reads visual novels
Visual novels aren't necessarily simulation games. Most are 'adventure games', i.e. story based. I do think he mentioned having played dating sims in the past though.
I don't think Garnt has played a VN in the last 10 years
@@VVayVVard I'm just saying that they both aren't "games" in the traditional sense.
Fata Morgana is the only VN I read or even heard of, and it's great, I'm surprised none of them knew it
Read Muv-Luv
@@wb5872 Can you stomach 50 hours of the most generic slice of life moe romance to reach absolute peak emotional trauma?
@@juice6521 Muv luv is a lot less appealing for general audience but hey alternatives is amazing tho
I'm surprised other great VNs aren't as highly rated. I get why my personal favorite, FSN: Realta Nua, wouldn't be featured, since it doesn't have an English version, but based on vndb scores I'd expect to see Steins;Gate or Umineko up there alongside Fata.
Actually now that I tried searching, I notice Umineko hasn't been rated at all. Meanwhile Steins;Gate has high user scores, but IGN and Pocket Gamer UK gave it low-ish ratings, causing the average to drop. I guess that checks out.
In FSN which of the 3 parts was your favorite?
@@aizeroth8858 All of the routes are excellent in their own right. Fate and UBW have the most hype moments, while UBW and HF left the strongest impressions on me. The penultimate battle (and the follow-up in the epilogue) in UBW is what cemented the story as a masterpiece in my mind, while the final parts of HF (and their lead-up) worked as a perfect ending to the overarching story.
If I had to choose one, I guess it would be UBW, since it has my favorite scene. But UBW wouldn't work as well without Fate as a lead-up, and it doesn't end the overarching story nearly as well as HF does. It's difficult to view any single route as a complete story, since they work so much better as a set.
It's because Fata Morgana is baby's-first-visual-novel. It's not really anime adjacent and doesn't have a lot of the tropes common to the medium. That being said, I find Fata to be really overrated and not even like a top 10 VN.
@@KiruaZorudihi Whats your top 10 then?
@@aizeroth8858 1. Umineko

Joey NEEEDS to read Fata Morgana
Im surprised they don't know about fata morgana
If anything it should have been higher
0:12 I love how confidently incorrect Joey is lol
How come “the anime man” never heard of fata morgana LMAO what a bum
Probably because he's not "the VN man"

the german Elden Ring review reads:
:"You can't do anything. There is no clear direction, there is no help when it comes to equipment or skills. You feel nothing when leveling up. Its really fun if you like losing and dying."
my personal GOAT VN and one of the best OSTs ever
Mgs2 is just as good as 3
I love how much Garnt talks about loving MG and MGS2 and then doesn't know in which game the water escort mission takes place in lmao like literally the entire map around the game is surrounded with water😭 he a fraud fr, they all do that shit
Personally I found the story in MGS2 to be mind-blowingly good, while MGS3 was my least favorite out of the first three. They're different in almost every respect, so it isn't surprising that some people would strongly prefer one over the other.
Yeah MGS2 was the one with the really shitty underwater stealth section to answer Joey's question. But I definitely reccomend playing it, after MGS1 so you can actually appreciate what the story is trying to tell you. Shit is fucking nuts. Predicted Twitter and controlled misinformation online in order to mislead the masses in a game from 2002. It's a bit like reading 1984 in modern times and coming away like
"Huh. Didn't think this was supposed to be a user manual for evil shit." 😂
For the first time ever I synched with Connor, all it took is some idiot to tell that Elden Ring world building is garbage. Bloody hell, thats an opinion...
Yeah I heard about it has a great story. The quality has the same quality as Umineko
why that one
The reason why it’s so high is because it has 10 reviews critic reviews
It's an amazing story, but I have to be honest and say that while I do love the Prequel (Requiem For Innocence) there are some VERY problematic moments in it. Not just that, but sometimes because the dialogue is americanized in the localization (idk if it's like that in the original) there are VERY ODD usages of slang which are used. This is only a problem in the DLC prequel though, which is surprisingly very very good, but of course the problematic things really detract from it.
These aren't spoilers, but I personally do not get why the game points so directly to Jacopo's "affection" and go out of their way to point it out as wrong, which means they're self-aware, yet they continue to portray it as a love story which I just do not get. Why even allude to it as Jacopo having romantic love to her? It makes it even more creepy when you remember the way they both met... if you know you know.
Yeah the Jacopo part is odd especially considering they acknowledge it as taboo. Maybe it's meant to be platonic? Jacopo could be asexual as well. It's been implied at parts
@@Ash_Wen-li Yeah, I really decided to just headcanon it as Platonic in my head while I was playing. I just decided to assume his "love" for Morgana is just a big brother / little sister dynamic, and feeling sorry for her since that's honestly what they portray for a majority of the story.
And yes, I do think Jacopo could be asexual, and simply just does not understand love. It doesn't ruin the entire story for me, but is always a part I feel a bit queasy about especially when I recommend the game to someone else.
Not deserved, calling it the best visual novel is just cringe
It's not the best but it definitely is one of the best that in not eroge
Anyone who promotes umineko don't take their opinion seriously. Japan also does not like it.
L take
So true. Any idea how Fata Morgana was received in Japan? I dislike Umineko but I thought Fata was incredible.
ukraine war made the author stop caring
@@bagel_remover8945 why do you not like umineko
