- Energy to Grow Your Community and Your Garden. Worried about climate change and how its affecting nature? There are things we can do that have a real and positive impact for us and the environment. And that’s a win-win! This video is sponsored by WeGlimpse.
Community energy puts the power back into communities’ hands. Local residents own the means of power production and can sell energy back into the national grid.
When you invest in community energy you get a return on your investment (usually paid annually) and often you get a vote in how or where the surplus is spent. This could be spent on more solar panels, it could be to reduce our power bills and it could also be spent in our local community on projects like gardens, education and creating community centres.
When many of us invest small amounts into a local scheme, we can do something amazing. We can take control back from big energy companies.
There are community energy projects right across the UK. Search online for Community Energy Project and find one near you.

About Us.
Byther Farm is a small organic homestead, being designed and managed using permaculture practices. We aim for self-sufficiency in fruit and vegetables for increased self reliance and better resilience to the modern world. I recognise that we are unlikely to be truly self sufficient, but do the best we can. I share our home with my loving husband, Mr J and our cat, Monty.
We are a fifty-something couple who live on a smallholding in Carmarthenshire, Wales. We are going green and creating a gentler, cleaner and more healthy life for our family.
Having had a highly successful smallholding in Monmouthshire, we hope to recreate the abundance at our new home. There will be a large organic kitchen garden with no dig gardening raised beds and young food forest in which to grown our fruit and vegetables.
We keep a few sheep and Aylesbury ducks.

Thanks so much, Liz. So refreshing to see these projects and the positive vision behind them in this age of seemingly limitless bad news.
I love the idea of having community involved! Individually we are but a single drop, but together we are ocean! 💚
Exactly! I can't wait to share some more of these ideas, they make my soul sing with joy.
Great stuff.
What an inspiring video! I appreciate the emphasis on not just the immediate benefits but also the long-term positive impact on the environment and community. It's great to see how individuals and communities can come together to create vibrant and loving spaces, even in the midst of urban development.
Absolutely! And is was inspiring to feel the positive energy of the staff and volunteers too.
It is amazing what can be achieved when people (community) come together. Thank you for sharing this with us all xx
Absolutely! It's brought me so much joy to learn about these projects.
I'm amazed at the surplus they are creating for their community!
A great video Liz on some great initiatives. Lovely to see city ones as well as rural.
Thanks! It was super to meet the folks involved in Energy Garden in London, they are doing some amazing stuff!
@@LizZorab I grew up in London. Sadly I remember the opposite direction of green spaces being ripped apart and either removed or put to grass. Even Victorion glass house and gardens. Crying shame. So seeing regeneration is lovely and vital.
So much future potential! Just wonderful how just a little energy can give give so much back to communites!❤
When communities club together they can purchase more solar panels and site them in other places, like across business rooftops. That way there is a lot of energy to sell back to the grid!
Good video,we have community gardens in edinburgh, like one place behind a church where they grow food and get together in the church hall and eat the produce and volunteers can take away free vegetables away.
That was really interesting and inspiring. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love the idea of community energy. Thank you for highlightly so many of the benefits this one has enabled.
You are so welcome! I love these projects.
@@LizZorab Agreed!
sounds great well done liz
Thanks Steven!
Hi, I am new to the channel. I have always wanted to ask about growing flowers for both pollinators and cut flowers. How do the pollinators thrive if their flowers get cut? If they lay eggs on the leaves, how is their lifecycle completed? I have the same question about plowing under cover crops. Thank you!!
You are unlikely to cut every single flower at once and more will keep growing, therefore a cut flower garden will still support pollinators and other insects.
🐝 Thanks for the great video 🌻
Our pleasure!
