I used to live on Lakenheath back in ‘95-‘97, not here though, we lived across from the high school...so many great memories of England, we traveled a lot in Europe and got to see so many cool places!

@@MandyIrizarry I think when your time is over at Lakenheath, you'll feel differently. Those were the best years of my life. My whole family felt that way. We left there in 1972, and I still miss it. There are Lakenheath reunions that still happen every year. Your kids will leave a piece of their hearts there. ❤️

@@MandyIrizarry had my dad not been retiring, we would have stayed. The 1st 2 yrs we were there, we lived in Brandon. We loved it. But I think for kids, being with all of your friends, hanging at the AYA, or bowling alley, was the best. I was in the 6th grade when the Lakenheath elementary school opened. My best friend lived in Worlington. That's where I took riding lessons. I took my son there in 2011. I had to show him the places I hung out. Oh, the memories!

I'm so glad I found a current video! We just got orders to Lakenheath and are wondering about housing. I'd love to live on base in this housing. Was the wait list long? Is it hard to get this nicer housing? Any info is super appreciated! :)

Hey! You will love living here. So our situation is a bit odd. We tried to get a base house about 2 years ago but they house list for a 4 bedroom (which is what we need) was 18 months long, but we also applied in November. After being on the list for 10 months we just gave up and took our names off of it.
Then in April, we decided to put our names on the list again because our landlord decided to sell the house we were renting. Housing called us 24 hours later saying we had a house. They told us we were actually the only ones on the list at the time that could get a house so it worked out perfectly for us. If you can't get a house right away and you end up renting a house off base you can only move out of that house after you've been in your lease for 6 months that's the only downfall. But after 6 months you can break your lease if you are moving into base housing.
We didn't really want to live on base but we have had some really awful landlords here and were just over it. Plus we only have 2 years left here so we figured this was just meant to be. If you want newer housing, I suggest sticking to Lakenheath, there is housing at RAF Feltwell but it is older.
If you need any more information send me an email (mandyirizarry218@yahoo.com). :) Good luck in your travels!

We are an incoming family of 6 (husband is E-5, possibly E-6 upon arrival).. girl (9), boy (7), girl (4), girl (2). Do our family stats qualify for the 4bd? We've heard the waitlist can be egregious for those already over there.. is this the case for incoming families all the same? Should we expect that a home like this wouldn't be available when arriving in July?

    • @MandyIrizarry

You should qualify for a 3 bedroom since your little two are both girls they will be expected to share a room. We aren't there anymore so I'm not sure the wait list time. But I would live off base hands down over living on base. I hated living on base. LOL!

A half bath is a down stairs loo . The electric outlets are plug sockets . Kitchen cabinets are cupboards and even the bigger ones are just called cupboards too . Because you have two boys that are both under 10 yrs of age, they will be expected to share a room and your baby girl will have her own so you would be offered a 3 bdrm house. After your oldest turns 10 then you could apply for 4 bdrm.

So the first time about 3 years prior we were on the list for 10 months before being offered a house. We decided to pass at that time because we were comfortable in our house. We moved into base housing now because our landlord sold the house and we only have 2 more years left here, so we just decided to try for it. We were on the list for 24 hours and got the call. THIS IS NOT NORMAL THOUGH. There wasn't anyone on the list at the time which is not normal.

It's not going to take long for you to ruin the blinds the way you pull down on them. Pull the string to lift the blinds when you want to look out. Or gently lift the slats. Those kinds of mini blinds crease easy. Lovely home! And a great job showing it. We lived at Lakenheath many moons ago. Before they built these homes. You're so lucky to live there.
