Hi Dan - I'm enjoying the series on your travels. Keep filling us in - I'm excited to see what the next part of the trip reveals. Ice Ice Baby!

Solid recommendation about the buff. The Icebreaker is helping tremendously in the below zero temps we're currently having in Missouri. Also, the Tenba 16L bag rocks. Great recommendations and welcome home from Antarctica.

Fellow Bufftarian greetings. please come to Japan and see the Japanese crows- (Karasu). Also have a look at RAVENS by Masahika Fukuase as a bird fan. 😎

Dress up like a zapatista and spend three to four hours fishing flounder on a sunny and windy open beach. Occasional mate drinking and both a notebook and a fuji at my backpack. Best I can do on a summer weekend here in Chile. Un abrazo, amigo.

I came here to soak up your artistic wisdom only to find my buff/hat soul mate. As a southern NZ dweller with short cropped hair i live in hats and a buff, mine is a bright pink merino icebreaker that has been used to carry freshly picked field mushrooms, wipe condensation of windscreens and gain traction on a particularly hard to unscrew water fitting. Im trying to keep all my ear parts intact after a lifetime of outdoor work 😊

Yes. By the way, NZ is now officially on my radar.

Love your content! What film simulation/recipe are you using? Love the look of your color films. Thanks! :)

Hopefully Dan won’t mind me answering. Dan is using his Nikon ZF on this trip for photography and will likely process colour raw’s in Lightroom using his own preset.
Dan describes his preset as a “mid tone bump” to remove a “digital sheen” off the image. Dan says the colour could be called Kodak Gold.
Dan’s magic in his photos is exposing for the highlights and letting the shadows sit where they are.

Thanks so much! I was actually asking about the video colors. Do you know about that? I just started using a Fuji and thought he did his videos on a Fuji too. Thanks! :)@@robmcd

It's a LUT for the XH2s. Downloadable at Fuji I believe.

I did a search for "tacky, crush-proof travel ware for the older gentleman" and landed here. Lucky me. I'm headed for the crushable felt travel hat myself. Where do I get the buffs though?

I don't know. I just seem to acquire them. The wool one I'm wearing now came out of nowhere. It was just in my bag one day.

My moms would have slathered you in sunscreen as if it were a second skin. If I complained, it was a bonnet with a veil that I had to wear out and about-either way I looked ridiculous for years and kids my age made fun of me-I grew a thick skin.😂

I use buff, maybe not all the time, but quite often and they are great travel companions. Another scarf I use is a keffija or shemagh. These are the scarves of Arab origin that Yasser Arafat wore on his head, also used by soldiers of many countries, with a similar purpose, but most often made of cotton.

Oh ya, I know those. Famed among the PJ crowd. Even at parties in the city. And in the summer.

  • @condorreades2148

So the buff - isn’t that just a variation on the bandanas or “wild rags” cowboys wore and wear? And serving the same purpose? Neck and face protection from sun, dust etc. Am I wrong about that?

Thank you Daniel. Love every point you made. I wear a cap - keeps the rain/sun off my face - in the summer the cap is upgraded to something akin to an Aussie bush hat for that extra all-round protection. A buff is an absolute must - to be worn in a variety of ways as so expertly demonstrated. Journalling for one's own consumption is the only sane path...
    Thank you 😊
