For some positive feedback, I'm 6 months our of my second TKR and recently had a big improvement. This arose I think because I watched Tonys' video on active v passive exercise. Rather than using a belt to pull the knee I then focused on using my leg muscles instead. We all get stuck on the idea of 6 weeks to gain flexion, and that's a good carrot to encourage us to exercise in the early stages ~ but improvement does happen past that date ! If you can get 117 degrees during exercise you must get at least 120 degrees later as things settle down. Great work Tony, your videos helped me through the hard times with both knees !

As a medical doctor with 48 years experience I am really impressed. I am recovering after knee replacement now for 2 months. Great guy to listen to👍👍

I just asked this question of myself yesterday after my PT session. I am almost 6 weeks post surgery and my flexion without support is 90. With support during my PT session got to 95. Then after I left my PT appointment my knee started to get very stiff and I felt like I was back to square one. Thank you so much for this timeless explanation. I can continue with my therapy with so much more confidence. Love your videos!

This question sounds like a phrase that I have used many times! I am just at 7 weeks post-op. 57 year old guy in good shape.
Do therapy sessions and home exercise, 3 1/2 plus mile walks and 7 miles on the spin bike in 30-35 minutes.
But yes, 5 minutes later stiffness kicks in big time. It’s been VERY disappointing. My therapist says it’s not uncommon and not to get too concerned.
This video and question helps to know that it isn’t just me or my progression.
    Thank you!
By the way, I am at 117’ of flexion as well.

If there’s one thing I learned from you Tony is that the roller coaster ride to recovery is real.
I’m at 13 weeks. Back since my 6th week post op to teaching full 1 hour Zumba classes twice a week and it’s with THAT expectation I will swell and expect pain yet again. Always moving in the right direction. Regardless of a day or two set back each week.
And my experience is MY OWN! Not to be compared with anyone else’s.

Had TKR 9-6-2023. In PT I get 115 degrees but at my 6 week follow-up it was 110. The surgeon didn't seem concerned but I cried. I do exercises and flexion with a strap until I can't then hold it. I'm frustrated. I do stairs, walking etc. without any problem. No real pain. I'm think out getting silicone cups to lift the skin and see it that helps. I use a massage gun and it helps but goes right back.

My knee flexion has reduced to 65 degrees with a v stiff knee. I am 5 months post surgery and had mistakenly reduced the exercises as I thought walking and general daily use was enough. I returned to physio for a check up and disappointed to find my knee flexion regressed from 95 degrees to 65. 😢. I’m now back doing specific exercises 3 times daily and pain relief as my joint is swollen and painful. I hadn’t appreciated I’d need to do exercises for upto 12 months plus post surgery. I look after my two horses and thought this would be enough exercise.
So I warn those of you post surgery to keep going with physio and not end up like me. I’m finding it harder than before. I have my next physio assessment in 3 weeks.

My Flexion ranged from 110 degrees to 132 degrees..I understand the Bench Mark was 120 degrees according to my therapist...The only time that my Flexion goes above 120 degrees to around 110 degrees when fluid builds around my knee...It was at that point...my therapist would take it easy during my next session.

I just saw your video for the first time. I had a knee injury almost 2 years ago. Seriously been lacking range of motion. I did PT for 6 months with little improvement. My Doctor pretty much said it was as good as it was going to get and so he ordered me an FCE. After the FCE I got me a second opinion. my new doctor did a minor surgery and cleaned out the scar tissue and put me back into physical therapy but after seven weeks like the guy in your video said I haven’t had much improvement. My doctor now has ordered me to wear a Dynasplint. What is your opinion on this Dynasplint and do you think it would help?
