This is one of the most romantic songs Keith sings. It's about a lifetime of Love. Keith has said this is one of his favorite songs to sing. I Love it too Keith.
When Keith received this guitar he was like "a kid in a candy store." We're unsure how Dave reacted when he received his, but our guess is it was similar to Keith's. This organic version of The Dutchman is the best we've ever heard! Keith opens his soul and grabs the listeners emotions. The sound of the smooth guitars is pleasing to the ear. Why haven't seen them more often?
I really love this song. It is so romantic, she takes care of him for their whole lives, That's Love !They depend on each other. I remember when I was lucky enough to have someone like that in my life . He has passed away now, and I will always miss him! He was the LOVE of my life, I loved him sense I was 17 yrs old we had many yrs together.
Saw Keith at the Irish Center in Kansas City in the fall of 2014. He mingled with the crowd before and after the show. Very humble & polite. Class act.
This is OUTSTANDING...what a fine vocalist, and tribute to both songwriter Smith and Steve Goodman, the artist whose version was emblematic for me...until this one.
I absolutely love it when Keith sings this song. Takes me back to my childhood days and I vision my Grandfather Connelly and his guitar. Thanks McPherson and Keith. Cheers\_/
i love it when a song can tell a story. and with keith singing the song, it reminds me of my grandparents, he was a true fisherman, and she was just everything he is singing about. i miss them so much, when i see the house now that another family lives in where i was so happy,. they loved that home. where all the children where born. i miss them so. thanks keith.
so glad you agree. he is just so talented, and gifted in so many ways. great to look at, and easy on the eyes. he reminds me of a young actor ( DON JOHNSON). if they where ever to decide to bring back (MIAMI VICE) then( KEITH HARKIN) would be the long lost son of (DON JOHNSON) on the show.if they brought it back. he has the same hair color, and style, and his looks are hot. he has a lot of don's expressions, i was watching a lot of old(MIAMI VICE) shows and my god he could pass for his son on the show. he would be a great actor, i seen him in stand and deliver, and he can act. well linda(4-FOLK) i have never heard of. where are you at? i'm here in maryland. reply, would love to hear from you. thanks pat
Beautiful version. Great to know that folk music is alive & well...RIP Steve Goodman and.... Michael Smith, I wish more people know your wonderful songs! Great job Keith. You have great taste.
I've always found this song incredibly beautiful. It is about a truly lifelong loving relationship. I was introduced to Celtic Thunder by my grandparents when I was a kid, and I'll never forget this being one of the first few tracks on a Celtic Thunder CD my grandmother used to play on the way to school in the morning. She always took care of us as kids, and i loved learning from my grandfather, a history teacher. This was one of her favourite songs. It's been fifteen years or more since that time and I'm no longer a kid, but I never stopped loving this song amongst various other Celtic Thunder songs, and it's beauty increased with time. Ironically, my grandmother has bad, increasingly worsening Alzhiemer's herself nowadays, and in a lot of ways she resembles the old man in the song. It makes me sad; she's a shadow of the lively, happy and energetic woman she was when she first played this for me and my little sister growing up. She was always there for us groowing up and we could always rely on her to help us or take care of us when we needed it, so now it's our time to take care of her more. My grandfather is rapidly developing early symptoms of Dementia as well, but right now i'm just grateful they're both still with us as they each near their 90th year, and I try to spend time talking with them even though it can be difficult and a bit maddening at times, simply because they are a last living source available to me on the history of our family and even the world in years long past. I plan to try to put together a family tree and brief history before that knowledge is lost to us. This song will be forever cherished by me and remind me of them, the times we shared together, the things they taught me and the love they showed. Alot has changed since the days me and my grandparents listened to Celtic Thunder, but one thing that never did is the love they have for each other and the love they have for their family. So grateful for William and Marilyn Scheuerman.
Confederate General Longstreet during a lull in the fighting heard a soldier singing with that Irish Brogue. He turned to his Commander,Robert E. Lee and said"Those Irish boys can sing." They could fight well as well.
He looks so much like a dear friend of mine. Sadly for me his time here on earth was cut short, He'll always be in my heart. I always think of him whenever I see Keith. ❤
I've been listening to a lot of versions of this song in the past couple days, as I need to learn it for an upcoming gig. This has by far become my favourite. Well done!
I have listened to Keith with 'Celtic Thunder' do this for years...Love the song, love Keith as much, & this is by far the one I like best...unless it's the one I've heard the most. I have Celtic Thunder taped on my TV, Keith isn't with them anymore...he's solo now, & don't know how/where I could catch him, anyone know??? I'm in USA...he's from Scotland..or Ireland. Do miss seeing him tho.
@@vkburke3402 You can see what shows he has on his website. He tours the USA every year. He has a Facebook and an Instagram account as well. Now, with the Covid19 lockdown, he had to cancel his shows, like all the other artists, but he performs live shows online on StageIt. Just search his name on Google and you'll find his website and his social media accounts.
Amazing!! As usual Dave and Keith make your beautiful instruments sing in a way that mesmerizes! Love the song-it's the one that made me fall in love with Keith and subsequently, his music and this rendition is breathtaking!

Great song and Singer. I wish I had one of those smooth sounding guitars but my adult son says I don't play well enough !😊
I am crazy about the way Keith sings "The Dutchman" and also love the way he plays the guitar with such sweet melodic tones. Wonderful!
