- With regards to tubing for drip irrigation systems, there are common industry standards for sizing. Black tubing is typically ½-inch also referred to .710. Dripline is usually sized at 17mm. Even with these standards, there are often variations in size between manufacturers. Steve McCarter from Landscape Products explains in this video.

So you said can’t interchange the two different fittings but didn’t give a reason, so just curious on why that is
The outside diameter of the tubing is different. .710 inches is about 18mm vs dripline which has an o.d. of 17mm. Thanks for the question!
