I don't know how or why the algorithm showed me this nice Nigerian man who explains classic menswear, but I enjoy it every time
Welcome aboard Devin 😁
You probably watched a Afrobeat music video! ❤

@@athall7286 IT IS FOR SURE

I'm old enough to remember when sport coats were more often called
"hacking jackets".
The good old days!
That’s right Stuart 🔥
But there is still a thing called a Hacking Coat today.
Usually a slightly longer coat with slanted flap pockets
Still called that
@@peedot39 OF COURSE 😁
You had a relatively rural upbringing?
My new goal in life is to get an AskOkey by Proff
The amount of information and the attention to detail on purpose of wear and what matches is mixing. Thanks for sharing 🫡
Thank you Ontario 🙌🏾🔥
I didn't realize that it was actually a difference between those shoes. So what I actually did was one into the closet and put on a classic double-breasted pinstripe suit made by Hawes & Curtis with black oxfords and then switched over to the black derby, and I immediately saw the difference in the aesthetics..
That’s right James
Oxford for suits and derby for sport coats
This man has so much swagger he still looks like he's wearing a suit when I could probably put that outfit together from my grandfather's wardrobe. And he was an Irish zinc miner who thought that ties were for lawyers and the English.
Now that’s interesting Keelan 😅
Your grandfather’s philosophy
Ty for the knowledge
OF COURSE Jamal 🔥
They're called derbies for a reason! So yes, functionally they're for the races so perfect for tweed or sports coats
That’s right Charlie 🔥
Derbys and Oxfords look very, very similar to me, so much the distinction for me makes them completely interchangeable.
But they aren’t the same Josey 😁
Great outlook, man. Denim jacket on you is absolutely different thing.
Just to bring things down a little Alonso 😁
I like the denim.
I do too Albert 🔥
Thats a fine shoe collection! And the way you're using the denim jacket is crisp!

I've wondered about this for so long! My only pair of black dress shoes are derbies, so I guess I've been committing a faux pas wearing them with a suit 😅

Iron Heart UK
That jacket and that hat ..... FIRE
Thank you Samuel 🔥
Mostly, I agree with you.
I see the level of broguing and the coloration as having as much of an impact on formality as the lacing system.
My most casual dress shoes are Allen Edmunds' Dalton. These are derby wingtip dress boots in Chili Shell Cordovan. These would look off with most suits. Since I tend to wear a blazer and contrasting pants these shoes work for most of my outfits.
I'll even wear polished dressy western boots with a sport coat. They look wrong with suits.
My most formal dress shoes are also from Allen Edmunds. These are the Carlyle in black. These Oxfords have no broguing or toe cap. Polished to a high shine they will work with black tie.
I think we’re on the same page Fred 💯
Welcome aboard 🔥
Big bro be laced up wit the gear up

Any time family
I have worn black Church open ”derbys” and closed dito oxfords daily with my various blue grey and black (popular around 2000) suits since the 1980s. Never felt outofplace with any type and never thought they were for different type of suits. Both also worked well with jeans+navy jacket AW.

Oh thank you Nigel 🙌🏾
At what point do you think "maybe im overthinking my wardrobe?" 😂
I would love for this man to give me a 3 hour lecture on style 101
It’s coming SJ
PROFFS MASTERCLASS
Depends on your instep. A person with a high instep its hard for them to fit into an oxford. 20+ year high level shoe salesman
That’s is TRUE Rob. Same applies for a very low instep (like I do). Very hard to wear standard oxfords without both facings touching and heel coming loose
Unless of course it’s custom made
The dressiest derbies are uniform shoes.
These are black military or postal low quarters.
Very correct sir
This dude so sharp my razor blade feeling useless.
When I was a boy Oxfords were all the rage to wear at school. I had never thought of the difference.
Indeed if attended public school where a blazer and gray flannels were required. Black Oxfords would have been your choice shoes
He is always so dapper ❤❤❤❤
Thank you Yolanda 🔥
I’m sure this man could make Reed St. James look stylish.
I knew in my heart that you'd be someone who would love specialty denim, the qualities of those fabrics are absolutely wonderful. And now I have to ask if you have seen Momotaro's suits! I have only seen them in very modern cuts, but I think the fabric would look wonderful with a classic and more boxy silhouette
Immaculate outfit chef
Derby suit best with chinos give a relaxed appeal
That is Correct Jagpreet 🔥

Would love to see your watch collection sir. Always interesting.
Not nearly anything one can call a “COLLECTION” 😁

I really love your use of the denim jacket in your outfit! I’m from Alabama and sometimes I wear a similar denim jacket and jeans with cowboy boots and a cowboy hay and people think I’m crazy when I tell them that it is technically a suit! Haha

May I digress from the topic and mention that your smart casual look with the ascot is spectacular? I had been thinking about how one might wear the ascot without a suit. Wishing to wear something similar someday. Thank you Professor!
With great pleasure Meghnad 😁
Welcome aboard Sir
Oga, na true talk una day talk. To be honest, I didn't know the difference between the two shoes. Thank you.
I don't see the difference in the lacing. They both look the samee!
I think it refers to how the "facing" or the part where the lacing is located. The facing in the oxford creates a subtle V-shape. While a Derby is like a sneaker, the facing is parallel to eachother.
NO they aren’t sir 😁
Please have another look
@@prio7485ABSOLUTELY CORRECT Prio 💯
I have a pair of black derbies that I wear with my suit. However, I plan on buying a pair of black oxfords to wear with my suit/s sometime in the future.
Love your content proff.
Absolutely Sir Banjo
Derbies are best left to casual dress and NO BLACK DERBIES PLEASE 🛑
BLACK is inherently a FORMAL COLOR and should not be used in derbies
@@AskOkeyInc Well, I love wearing my black derbies with my suit. However, once I buy myself my black oxfords and my black monks, I'll retire my derbies from my formal wear and transition them into my business casual wear for the foreseeable future.
But for now, I'll wear my either my black derbies or my black transit shoes (which are essentially laceless leather shoes) with my suit, despite them not being the proper shoe to wear with a suit.

@@AskOkeyInc The military issues black derbies for their formal/dress uniforms.

THAT WHY YOU ARE "THE GOAT"....👍👍👍👍
You gotta brief us on the roles of scarves, man. The one you’re wearing looks good on you. It takes a particular person with a certain amount of confidence to pull off that look like you have.
David this is called an “Ascot”
You can also use a scarf 🧣 to create the same effect

Is there a video or short on how/when to wear an ascot? Thanks in advance!
A Sport Coat, also known as a Hacking Coat, which I am confident @AskOkey knows.

😮 Derby vs Oxford...ok!
YES Jill dear ☺️
Now, the shoes! Oxford for me. What is your take on Derby&Oxford shoes in suede? Later, could you also talk about the tassel moccasins (calfskin/cordovan/suede)? Thank you.
The Material use in making the shoes is irrelevant
Suede oxfords are oxfords and so are suede derbies
Some might use suede oxfords casually because of the fabric but I discourage that
Sir, love this outfit
I have learned something new.🎉 this man very impressive
My pleasure 💯
What would you wear with a doubled breasted suit?
Also, what are your thoughts on a double-breasted Pinstripe vs plaid suit?
I ONLY wear Oxfords with Worsted City Suits
Plaids can be very tricky on DB. Better to keep it SIMPLE
Plain or simple stripes
Some more info and some more types pls
Of course Rohit

But could I get the same class with trousers that are not so high above the waist?
Dope denim jacket sir. Can I ask the make?

Stick around here Raheem 😁
That is a nice denim jacket!
Thank you Six Dux
It’s made from Raw Japanese Selvedge Denim
Sorry to see the denim jacket so long. ;)
Excellent
Thank you Ndumiso 🔥
How much of a misstep is it to wear derby's with more formal office attire. While I appreciate the elegance of oxfords (especially wholecut oxfords) generally I prefer the look of derby shoes and boots.
Mer P,
You will NOT get arrest and shot at the wall for wearing a derby with a suit 🤣🤣
But Derbies are inherently casual and better reserved for either casual suits (think tweeds) or Sport Coats
This is just tradition

Hey Proff - shoe advice for those starting their careers? I say get 2 pair - one black, one cognac in classic style -if funds are tight. I agree with you: investment in your suit, belt, shirt, tie and shoe will give good ROI. But where is the smart money going?
Smart Money Move
1. Navy and Charcoal Suit
2. Goodyear Welted Dress Shoes
Thanks for making this distinction sir, I have struggled with it for a while. I don’t mind suits and trousers however i always preferred the more casual looks to it. I recently got into ties , I hate ties but I have been rocking ascots and cravats the more casual set of ties. I would really like to know more about dimensions, colours, cuts, brushes, pushes and collars, and all that so I can create a style that suits my personality sir. I would appreciate a response, I understand you are a very busy person so a non response is great as well.
Dear George,
While I’ve done several videos on neckties, I have yet to do one strictly on casual neckwear
I will raise this with our media planning team. Thank you and welcome aboard sir 😁
PROFF
His trousers are too high. Now you see it too
He is wearing his trousers correctly. Today's style of men wearing trousers below the waist is not attractive and it's not how they were originally designed to be worn.
I've missed your channel for some reason
I'm still learning
OF COURSE Rich 🙌🏾
Let’s keep going 🔥
I model myself as a Classic ,classic Gentleman ( one step away from constantly wearing black suits and bow ties all of the time ). If I try to leave my home without wearing proper attire my front door becomes a Black hole of which I cannot escape and I am quickly sucked back in .wWth that being said I find it rather difficult to wear my Derby’s. Variety is a spice of life yes but I find that Balmorals always offers me respite from the Neutron star always with ease So for now all I can do is look at my Derby’s in the home.
Hemi, there’s a place for derbies of course 😅
Just make sure your pair them with the right outfit
Idk if you have talked about them but what is your perspective on wide toe box shoes specifically dress shoes that have wide toe boxes
would you mind sharing the name of the shoemaker making your dark brown oxford?
Saint Crispins makes all my dress shoes
Hey Proff, just a question.
I noticed your denim jacket fits tighter than your usual suit jackets. I'd like to ask why this is the case? Is it sartorial convention or something else?
Love your videos! 💪
Well Ralph, denim SHOULD FIT CLOSER tot he body because it’s unconstructed
A Suit is CONSTRUCTED
