Given that time, I wouldn't put it beyond the developers to hide a secret true ending behind getting all the hearts but I get why no one would want to go for the 100% under these circumstances. Even the 100-coins from Mario, that might have inspired the shattered hearts, is much nicer to the players than this game and it's systems.
