- A nostalgic look back at Scarborough c. 1973....
A really professional film, brilliantly shot and produced by Michael Wallace....It is reproduced here in good faith as I understand this film is no longer available on DVD. I dedicate this upload to Max Payne MBE along with two of my own videos about Scarborough.
Compare with Scarborough more recently on the 'Scarborough Vistas' or 'Scarborough Besides the Seaside' videos.
My apologies for any unintentional copyright infringement.

I'm 52 years old and I have treasured memories of our annual family holidays in Scarborough. To me, it was like a fantasy land. A world away from my everyday life in a Yorkshire industrial town. I still love the place to this day and I thank my parents for giving us such wonderful times. Happiness wrapped in a bow of sadness because of people and times gone by.
Adam Zapple Same sentiment for me too I'm in my mid 50s went to Scarborough every year throughout the 70s with my cousins 13 in total great memories and exciting holidays in them days my wife and I still go every year for a long weekend in a B&B I always think back to them days with happiness but with a touch of sadness when I'm there.
As a kid in the 70s spent many fantastic holidays there . Love the place .
This brings back so many happy childhood memories of my holidays to Scarborough as a Kid from Bolton in the 1970’s. Thanks for sharing this.
Utterly Brilliant. One of the best video's I have seen on here in ages. I used to live in Scarborough and visited many times in the early 70's before I moved there in 83 so this brings back some wonderful memories.
Eric George Glad to share this with you Eric ..... Jayne Anne
I will forever be grateful xx
Eric George Dear Eric - That makes it all worth while to put in on my channel ...... the creators of this were truly dedicated film makers and loved their home town. Sadly Micheal Wallace suffered a terrible accident as I understand it and is no longer with us. What a loss! All best wishes - Jayne Anne
Jayne Anne Strutt Then this Video is a fitting tribute to Max Payne and Michael Wallace and will be with us forever for future generations to enjoy. I never tire of watching it to be honest.
Eric George Thanks Eric. It will continue to engage anyone with a local interest or just brilliant film making!
Thanks Jayne for uploading this video. I haven't been to Scarborough since I was a 5 year old in 1979, but to this day my 2 summer holidays in 1978/1979 there remain my favourites. For a child it was such an amazing place... dolphins, chairlifts, miniature railway, lovely beach, Peasholm Park, the tree walk (at night wow), knickerbocker glories (in a cafe on the harbour), treasure hunts and pirate ships!!! When I saw the Hispaniola and Ben Gunn's home in the film I was like OMG... it's just like how I remembered 38 years ago. I'm sure it's not quite the same nowadays but one day I need to return just to satisfy my curiosity if anything else. Lovely to be reminded of the sights again as I saw them all those years ago, from my 2 fondest holidays. Thank so much :)
I was born in 1966 and spent my summer holidays in Scarborough,it was a magical place for me with many found memory's,pity it didn`t show the tree walk in Peasholms park at night.

I was born in 1970 and I remember the night time naval sea battles at Peasholm Park under the park lights it was indeed magical
I feel exactly the same way.
What a lovely upload, thank you!! I adore the place and still have friends over there that I visit as often as I can!
Yes Jeff - it still is a great place, now needs some TLC though. Come to Scarborough when ever you can... Best wishes.
I have a few visits planned this year. Visiting friends in May and June, Open Air theatre again in June and hopefully a couple more visits in Autumn and Winter!!

84asrd84boxy Thank You Bill ......hope you can visit some time, its still a nice seaside town in a beautiful setting. Glad you enjoyed the retrospective view to only just yesterday! I've alway wanted to live by the sea, now I'm here.... Still have fond memories of the midlands and Staffordshire in particular. Went back a couple of weeks ago visited Biddulph Grange N. Staffs. Take a look at the video sometime.. Very best wishes to you and thanks for all of your videos which often feel rather nicely nostalgic to me..... must be gettin on just a bit! Ha Ha...
Great memories, I went there on summer holiday's a few times in the early 70s when I was still at school
Was there that summer love the place and Whitby some never forgotten memories .
Just think. That blonde girl at the start is probably a Granny nowadays.
The huge amount of people on the beach at 08:08 is staggering. Its just not like that any more for a number of reasons, we don't get the weather like we did and the council has let the place go to the dogs. Such a shame as Scarborough is so pretty and has a huge amount of potential.
Stunning film brings back memories I was an apprentice at the crown Hotel in the 60`s what a shame the gardens are a mess now. The council should watch this and put it back as it was.
Paul lamming Thank you Paul ..... still a lovely place despite so many changes. The gardens on South Cliff have been improved recently especially the 'Rose Garden' - best wishes Jayne Anne
Magical
Thanks Jayne!
Thank you Sam, please do enjoy whatever you find of interest in this little space on UA-cam. Best Wishes Jayne Anne.
growing up there around this time I remember the south bay sand full of cig butts and lolly sticks. good summers all the attractions still good, packed beaches and a fishing fleet not ruined by the EEC so fish and chips twice a week.
I remember the carnival parades and foreign acts too.
Thanks Davis. Lovely memories. Now the B EU want to take the internet and UA-cam off us. What Next?
@@feline1104 freedom, hopefully
Thanks for a brilliant upload about my favourite resort! Anybpdy know who the guy is at 42:41 please?
Who is the Violinist at 42:41 please???
scardiburgh the viking scar face as so called because of a scar caused by a hair lip at birth not very romantic the truth .scarborough was named after him .
Valerie Milam - or we could have the truth .. its Viking name is derived from the Scandinavian word "Skarðaborg," meaning stronghold.
It’s named Scarborough because its Viking name is derived from the Scandinavian word "Skarðaborg," meaning stronghold.
Quite a nice film although there’s an overuse of young women ...
