Great to see what went wrong. You guys could do with fitting a baffled sump, to keep oil round the pickup pipe or change the pickup pipe location. Before you fit any engine back in the car.
Man, this is literally the exact thing that happened to me. 50k-ish miles, rod bearing failure, crank shaft was eff'd, and sleeve had scoring. Glad you're already making moves to get back on the track!
@@UnrelatedNonsense it totally could've. Like Dustin, I didn't have an oil temp or oil pressure sensor and most of my miles are on the track so it could've been problems compounded over time. I've since rebuilt the motor and added a baffled oil pan. I also changed the weight of the oil to withstand higher temps to avoid it thinning out during competition (per the recommendation of 4 Piston).
#madeittotheend. Great work on getting the engine removed and ready for the rebuild. I am having my RB26 rebuilt right now because of a blown turbo that caused engine failure. Best of luck on the rebuild🛠
I'm not 100% sure if the ctr has a delay valve in the slave cylinder but if it does you need to delete it. I did it in my tl and it made a world of difference when I was speed shifting. The delay valve also prematurely wore out my clutch because it's designed to make the clutch slip a little bit to make it easier to drive.
I'm not sure whether the shaky video is part of your style. But I think it is too shaky and almost induces motion sick. I would suggest to use a stablizer, such as a DJI Ronin RS3.
Dustin, what viscosity of oil were you using? The 0w20 that Honda "recommend" is used for fuel economy and emissions reasons, and it thins out too much at temperature during track use. Many people who track civics switch to 5w30, to prevent this
Install a dry sump oil system Dustin, that should prevent your soon to be rebuilt new engine from re blowing up on P Turn 15 Curcuit de americas next time.
Sad to see something happen to the fk8 but love to sees the homies working on the engine and trans lol it’s like the best mechanic class we could have , that drain plug is awesome
In the last video I said for sure it was oil pan / baffle & pick up related. Somebody said “ThE tYpE r OiLiNg SyStEm is GrEaT” I’m sure bro is an expert 😂 It’s a FWD car that has a lot more slosh due to longitudinally mounted engine during high speed turns and Gs. One of the first upgrades to a FwD track focused car is the oil pick up and better baffling in the oil pan. Also judging by the play in cylinder 4 after you shook cylinder 1 (blown rod bearing) it sounds like cylinder 4 was lose and next to fail regardless. It’s better now anyway knowing it was probably beat to ish by the previous owner and now you can truly make it track focused building the engine. Should be a tank once it’s all done. Look forward to seeing it rip
If I would suggest anything it would be invest in either a wet or dry sump to help with the oil starvation. Otherwise I don't know what else you guys could have done to prevent what happened.
Well the K20C1 is quite famous for failing head-gaskets here in germany. As we have more expierience, because the same Motor is used in the FK2R some time longer. There are multiple Motors with that issues, FK8 too. It's due to shaking cylinders caused by the open-deck-construction. Stronger gasket & head stuts don't help, only block-guard or sleeves are a solution. & on long term the vibritions cause the cylinders to crack... Maybe our Autobahns speed up those failures, as our cars are driven longer on speeds 130+ mph. It happend to Motors without mapping from 35k miles on. I know a modified k20c1 which had his worn out gasket replaced by a Athena gasket with arp headstuts & 3,5k miles later the gasket failed again plus cracks in cylinder 1 & 4 on top of it. Stock turbo with 450 hp & 650 nm @ crank. Just wanted to let u know as the Motor is out anyways...
@@JoaoSilva-in5bx in germany the open-deck-problem is well know among forum-, WhatsApp- & Facebook-discussions. Maybe we get the Problem earlier, as we are allowed to run unlimited speeds on Autobahn. It appeared on FK2R 1st & then on FK8 too & will on FL5 too, the block remains the same. There is a new head-gasket, as honda changed the part-number, but gasket-failure isn't the problem, it's only the symptom. The cylinders are shaking, destroying gasket 1st, if the Problem isn't fixed the cylinders crack. The Problem is, that the cars run fine, showing no visual signs (unlike Focus RS mk3, with their White exhaust gas). Detection is kind of tricky: 1st coolant can get tested for co2 2nd minimal coolant loss 3rd short coolant overheating error (as the exhaust Gases create bubbles of heat at Temperaturesensor) The Motor runs fine even with cracked cylinders showing signs of damage really really late. 1st owners tried fixing it with upgraded gaskets like ones from "athena" combined with arp studs, but they were weared off too. On 2nd head-gasket-failure most Blocks already showed cracks in cylinders.
