Snails | Gathering and Cooking the French Delicacy

- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- Snails - also called escargots - are a typical French dish. Usually, this delicacy is served as a starter.
Escargots are a protected species. In neighbouring Germany, it is illegal to collect them, though in France they can be gathered from the start of July.

Delicious french food! I'm hungry🙋
Being French myself that sounds delicious!
How can something that tastes nothing be delicious
@@benireges BECAUSE IT IS DELICIOUS
@@thezeromortalplan8870 the butter garlic and parsley is whats delicious. The snails have no taste
@@beniregesthe snails are there for protein, we aren’t going to eat garlic on its own
Burgundy countryside is so beautiful and charming.
Well, if you frame it that way, it looks delicious.
I have never tried snails before, it must look delicious.
they taste like mushrooms, I tried them when I went to morocco. You can probably make mushrooms using the same recipe and it'll taste similar
@@thetree9399 they taste more like calamari than mushrooms. A bit if a mix.
thetree666 The I ate It taste like clam
All I could taste was garlic when I tried them in Paris, the snails are quite tasteless
i love french culture but i would never eat these XD
Its very tasty .
You would, or could.
Also muriel and griseo love that dish.
I love burgundy snails
i enjoy them.... so tasty!
I like men who can cook for their family. Very manly
Only 8 snails at a party? Literally i could eat like 70
C'est délicieux, miam miam...
You're supposed to put them in captivity and feed them on something special before cooking them ?!
Why it should be necessery?
@@dickyarjuna1566 Removes toxins according to Girdon Ramsay
Yes because they might have toxins or other poisons inside you want them to be fully purged and cleaned. It takes at least a week. People put snail poison down etc.
Garyy is a bath time
I wonder he knows the compressed air just contaminated the empty shell ?
yeah unless he has a clean one with no oil in it
Fasting them for a whole week, good to know. More important would be to learn to know how to take them out and to remove inedible parts? The gathering is not what we need to see, although nice. Wonder how it's greasy. Are they fat, or is it the herbbutter?.
Me:looks up scrago from my singing monster this: COOKED SNAIL me: I mean it is a snail so
Awesome!!
I think given time humans will start preparing delicacies from laterine ...
just wondering but anyone who is German went France and try 🐌?
So much butter.
Mmmm butter
@@aaronying4989 mmmmmm buttah!!!!
VERY DELICIOUS.I LIKE IT VERY MUCH.
1:08 "A bay leaf.." more like 5 or 6 buddy
greeneking77 bay leaves are strong when fresh
wtf was I supposed to understand him? my work language is French but I barely understood anything...
As a native french speaker I can say he has a very pronounced accent. I assume it can be difficult for you to understand him

The world's strongest and most powerful race
No way lol..
snails are already soft, why'd u need to make em more softer? makes no sense
In malaysia, you can take those guys.we dont care🤣
In germany too. We see them as parasites and find them disgusting 😆
I dont like them taste like mud
id rather eat some real food ...
This isn’t the full meal. It’s an appetizer lol. Or snack.
Hello? Where’s the cheese?
eating Insects.
😑😑😑😑 French foods
I just had these and I can honestly they are really good. It’s kinda chewy (in a good way) like a tender mussel or oyster, and most of the flavor comes from the buttery garlic and parsley. Expensive tho.
Yeah, I have huge texture issues but the escargot were actually really good!
I love raw oysters but for some reason snails turn my stomach. Funny how I can eat one disgusting thing but not another just because of my cultural upbringing.
wrrr
Just for butter and parsley? Lol I’m good low key
eat my snails please papa
Well I guess it’s no different than eating mussels or clams
or geoducks
All are molluscs so yeah, I guess it isn't that different lol
In Indonesia we also eat similar food.....
Conch has a taste texture that is similar to shellfish but there is a little chicken taste. In Indonesia, we used to use rice field golden snails!.....
I feel proud if this food is expensive food in France! 😅
😂😂😂
It's not expensive since we can do it ourselves :')
Ate them when I went to France. They are delicious.
What u call "delicious" is the garlic butter lol. These taste nothing
@@benireges exactly lol Garlic has one of the best flavours and paired with butter it can make a rock taste good
Same, had some in Paris, just tasted like garlic
Is this a normal dish for French people or just a dying old generation food?
A dying old generation food. I don't know anyone who eats those regularily.
And it's really understandable, snails don't have any appeal: the garlic butter is there for the sole purpose of giving them taste. It's just dull if you eat them as is.
There are lots of french meat meals that are more affordable and tastier.
Same goes for frogs. It's just a cliché.
Some food stereotypes are true, though. We do eat loads of bread (mainly baguette, but not only, we have hundreds of types of bread) and cheese.
@@blue_003b6f I’m was born in France abd move to England but not a fan of french cuisine but I love ratatouille and steak au poivre
@@gregorleroy4182 wouldn'y say a dying dish.
if you visit east or south east asia
like malaysia, vietnam, china we eat it with diferent kind of snail and shellfish
37 years old french here, even for the holy Graal i wouldn't eat that.
They look good. I wouldn't mind trying them.
La'Tasha W. They’re quite good! Enjoying escargot doesn’t make you filthy, pay no attention to uneducated trolls.
Yes, and the snails too!
I guess everything is good for as long as it is neatly done, except for humans of course. In fact, we are animals after all and are at the top of the food chain
They don’t really taste of anything, you only taste the garlic they add. I tried some in Paris
I'll admit, it does look very appetizing.
Love snails! I grew up with it. Yummy!
Im terrified of snails and can’t imagine eating them, but I feel sorry for them being cooked alive...
Im carrying lil meow meow’s kittens 😂 there snails for Christ sake .
snails cant feel pain
I'm deeply disgusted by them and would rather not encounter any, but yea, it's sad to see them be cooked. They are cute sometimes
You can’t say that if u are not vegetarian.
Maya_ B ??
Pressure cook them vs waiting a week. Flavor will also be more infused as well this way cutting time in half.
This is how we do and same for Welks (sea snails)
I 've millions of snail at home I heat snail disgusting omg 😴😪😷🤕😝😪😴😷 you people sick .
Kiesha Purge your English is sick 😷
I'm Mexican American and I would never imagine that French people would eat this . Bizarre Bazaar
I’m English and it’s weird to us but they are actually nice, I tried it in a restaurant in Paris and it just tastes of garlic
@dylanmurphy9389 I guess it doesn't look to bad. I just hate slimy stuff to Chew on .but I would E octopus legs .
Portuguese here, we just straight up cook them, I love it.
Lets be straight about this; who the fuck saw some snails and thought;
"You know what? I'm gonna cook and eat those. But first I'll boil the shit out of it for an hour and a half! Scoop them out, fill the shell with butter, shove the flesh back in and roast it in the oven for another ten minutes."
Fuck. That. I'll just have an apple.
What if it was because survival? Maybe a person needed to eat and that was he found, he discovered he like it and then in the future began to mix it with other things
Yea it’s a little strange lol but back then when they didn’t have enough protein and meats. They’d discover snails. Lol
Poverty and/or desperation. Someone may have observed another animal eat them, and then when that person was hungry and in need of something to eat, they decided to try it because they were abundant.
@@Benzy670 and spent all that time preparing them?
You sure about that?
Also, 3 years have past since i posted this question!
@@Steggmanpreparing things to taste nice that don’t naturally taste good is another example of survival though
Why is my mouth watering?!
I'd need 200 of them at least, they are bloody divine!😆🤣😆
Come to northeast India... U will have snail curry to another level and there will be dozens of snails for one person... And u will know where u will find the best snail dish.
Imagine if flesh eating aliens came down and picked up humans, boiled us alive and served us to their intergalactic guests! We would call them evil. Are we demons for the snails? Everything's relative, it's a matter of perspective. One man's pet can be another man's food
The herb butter is about the only thing that looks edible to me haha
Eww
Σ(゚д゚;)凄いインパクト☺️
美味しそー!!!
I had some in Paris, they are very nice but you are tasting garlic protein, the snail on its own is tasteless
Not gonna lie, that looks pretty tasty and nutty.
you do realise that snails feel pain the same as we do right? evil ..
Ohhhhhhhh ..... so the french do have Man cave !
I can't bring myself to try it, snails and slugs are disgusting creatures
I Love that part!
Peace

I’ll eat them. The American way. Fried. With garlic sauce
fcking nasty
Illegal in Germany...lol damn..wish the states had them..laying around..
Why am I watching this? I have molluscophobia
IMA GO COLLECT SNAILS 🐌 AND BRINE THEM IN BEER
Ummmmmmmmmm..........................NO!!!! What's next earthworms.
yuck, still gonna be a hard pass from me
These are delicious. We eat these in Vietnam and Laos too. If you know how to make stew with these it is amazing. Dill, garlic, shallots, two or three bay leaves, one or two tablespoons of fish sauce (3 crabs brand) and Vietnamese curry. Add water and let it stew. Enjoy. 🎉
Interestingly we eat the cousin of the land snails, sea snails.
Edit:
Forgot to mention lemongrass
Keep things simple, cook all the herbs until it's golden brown, put the curry powder in once you see it browning and then add the snails, stir it and then add water. Let it stew.
Snails are actually yummy.
What if he doesnt put the snails back in their own original houses after having temporarily evicted them ?
R.I.P snail
Homie wanted to live but he dead
What happens to the slime? Don't they wash them out?

I'm french and never eat snails. All my familly eat snails, i must try a day. Oysters are excelent ! You eat Oysters with Vinaigrette, mmmhhhh.
