Thank you man! Pretty helpfull. I just changed the trans oil on mine due that i replaced the clutch discs. At that time i did not know there were 2 compartments for oil. This video really helped me.
Thanks for that, very useful! I just bought a 2nd hand CRF 150R for my son and it came with no manual or service record. Do you use the same oil for both crank and transmission?
All you do is remove the bottom bolt on the pump with the copper washer and remove the rad cap then dump distilled water in it a couple times to make sure it's all clean them make sure it's dry and put the drain hold back in then roll it back up with Coolant.
So, do both compartments 1. For transmission 2. For oil. Both of those take the same oil? Also, I did exaxlty this BUT i put the fluid in on the left side "/ I also drained the fluid from The very bottom bolt too. What do i do from here?
The oil Had Happed to be compatible with both engine and transmission oil. I have been using that oil for years and have had zero problems, i just change it more frequently because the oil wears out sooner compared to a fully synthetic oil. The ENGINE oil is drained from the underside of the engine, the TRANSMISSION is drained from underneath the gear shifter on the left side of the bike.
+chris Nelson In the crf150r there are 2 oil chambers one for the engine. crank, stator, and piston. and another for the transmission, the clutch, and the 5 speed transmission, they are separate.
When maintained correctly the 150r is a good solid bike. But what tends to happen is its a kids bike. Kids tend to not maintain the bike because they don't know how to properly maintain a race bike. It took a bit for me to find a bike that was maintained well. I shimmed the valves 1 time and replaced a few dings and dents and my bike is great. If you are going to buy a 150 used I have a list to check. The front forks seals and if they are leaking The front tire and if the rim weld is holding up If the rear swing arm has side to side play/movement If the Spokes tight, tap them with a screw driver the bolts that go into the swing arm for adjusting the chain if they are frozen If the air filter is dirty if the front breaks are in spec and working then ride the bike testing all the gears Accelerate fast and then cut the throttle and see if it back fires if the rear fender is broken or has been replaced check if the sub frame is damaged Just remember there might me bad gas in the tank or carburetor so the bike might not run good.
should be changed every 2-3 oil changes depending on how dirty your oil comes out, what quality oil you put in minght be able to get like 4 oil changes on a trans change
Confused?? I’ve just bought my crf 150 and with the bike I received 10w40 oil for the engine and 75w gearbox oil, can you use 10w40 for the engine and gear box? Or can I use the 75w gearbox oil
The numbers "10w 40" is stating viscosity the oil at different temperatures,. I use the same oil in both engine and trans because the oil meets all the requirements, the engine and trans oil requirements are in the owners and service manuals. I would check and make sure that the oil you are using meets the oil requirements and if they do you can use them.
If I do that and then start it up will the oil level lower while it’s running through the compartments and will I have to add more or just leave it and ride
The transmission takes about 570ml (milliliters) and if you do the decimal dance, You move the decimal point over left 3 times from milli on the end to base which is Liters. and That is .57 liters. You should like the video check your oil level after you fill 570ml and add if you need any more. On my crf450r I just take the can and dump it in till it comes out of the check hole then run the bolt in and ride. I dont think it hurts much if you over flow it.
You Have check the manual to see if the oil meets the requirements, but 10w30 is a better oil if your operating in an colder average temperature and 10w40 is for a little hotter average temperature
There are many types of oil's, oil for cars can be very different to oil for dirt bike's. The oil for the Honda crf150r is JASO MA SS (non energy conserving) conserving oil. For more oil options consult your Honda service manual.
I go 2 rides which is about 60-80 miles. But I buy non synthetic oil very cheep and inexpensive, if you buy full synthetic oil you dont have to change it more. but for dirt bikes I change It regularly.
Just saying Valvoline makes a motorcycle specific engine oil which is formulated for wet clutch use it is a 10 W 40 and works much better than using the ATV oil.
+Michael I change my crf150r oil every ride and that is about 30-50 miles of trail riding. But I buy cheep oil so its less quality and it breaks down quicker but i change it often. The transmission oil does not get dirty that quick so if your using expensive oil you most likely dont need to change it as much as the engine oil.
It showed 10w-40 in this vid but what I've seen online (and what I've been doing) is that you can just use 10w-30 for both the engine and transmission oil.
@@owenthompson5511 The first time I bought my bike I put 10w 40 pro Honda oil on each side, is that fine? But for my next oil change I planning on putting 20w 40 on engine and 80-85w tranny oil.
The engine oil on a 4 stroke lubricates the crankshaft the piston and cylcinder. The engine oil gets more abuse than the transmission because it is collecting the dirt from the combustion inside the engine, therefore I think it should get changed more offen than the transmission. The transmission oil lubricates the clutch and gears in the transmission. I would change your oil every 3-9hours on the engine. And 3-12 hours on the transmission. I change my oil every other ride and that's about 6 hours.
So the oil that I was using met both certifications for both transmission and engine oil. some oils can only be used in one. Check your service manual or owners manual to be sure.
I just use cheap 10w-40 oil that is compatible with my engine. Make sure its for 4 stroke, SAE rating, and usually with most dirt bikes it does not need any energy conserving properties.
It depends, if your racing I would change it every other race but trail riding it can you at least 10-15 hrs, I run the cheapest oil that is ok to run in my bike and change it more frequently than the manual says, I have done this with my crf100f crf150r crf250x
+Kobi Braslin Browne I think I added about 670ml, but you should take off the trans oil check bolt and add and check until oil comes out. If oil comes out at 670ml your still ok.
I truly dont know i think it is around 0.57 liter (0.61 US qt, 0.51 Imp qt) when drained but i just look at the transmission oil check bolt and stop when oil drips out.
there is an engine oil and a transmission oil on the 150r. You should consult the owners or service manual if you are unsure of how to preform an oil change
+MyCityStreets It has two oil chambers, The Engine oil and the transmission oil, The engine lubricates the Crank Case cylinder piston valves and the stater. The transmission oil lubricates the clutch and the gears in the transmission. The Engine oil Typically looks a little darker because it collects some of the blow-back that seeps through the piston rings when the bike is running. The trans oil will get tiny shavings of the friction clutch plates making it look like a light gray. That is why I usually changes the engine oil twice as much as the trans oil. But I change my engine oil every 2-3 rides or 6-9 hours of trail riding, and 10-15 hours on the trans oil.
I dont know, The Honda crf100f that i started out with did not have two chambers. I think it only high performance engines for motocross or enduro. But the 2017 450rx has only one oil chamber.
+oliver cepin As long as the oil meets all the requirements for the bike you can use it in both sides no problem. Like the video says, Make sure that the oil meets API service classification: SG or higher JASO T 930 Standard: MA And make sure that the oil is not energy conserving of has energy conserving additives.
like he said, as long as it meets oil standards then use it. you can put in both compartments but its better to just use transmission fluid for the tranny. I use pro honda hp 80/85w
+Zack's Cringy Ass Adventures I would take a Mill and mill out the inside of the bolt while using a shop vac for sucking the debris away. Then the threads on the bolt should come winding off. You can also just drill a new hole and tap new threads.
Just dirt bikes I got it out using a flathead somehow and the threads are fine, I continued the change and oil was still coming out so I put the bolt in and took it for a little ride up my driveway, but when I came back no oil was coming out. Do I put more oil in or leave it alone?
+Zack's Cringy Ass Adventures I am glad it worked out, I would be cautious when removing and tightening that bolt. The bolt just has to keep the oil in when riding.
the oil I was using is ok for the transmission and engine. read the service manual and it states classifications/specifications for oils that can and can not be used.
+That 150 r Guy The oil I use can be both used in engine and in the transmission on the bike it meets all of the requirements listed in the crf150r service manual.
+Presley Costa You can put Honda Transmission oil in the transmission, but if you have ever read the crf150r service manual it says that the 10w-40 oil that I used in this video can and meets all the requirements and certifications to be in the transmission. If the Oil I used was not certified or did not meet the requirements I would never put that oil in my Dirt bike.
Hate to tell you, buddy, but that’s a clutch side not a transmission side
😬
That’s the correct way these Crf150r are it’s very weird how they don’t do it all on the same side but this guy did the right thing

People say there high maintenance but it’s really not bad easy oil changes filters coolent easy stuff
Yea, true as long as you stay on top of it, but high maintenance in the aspect of the motor will wear out before a trail bike like a150f would.

In the transmission side is there a oil filter there as well or not??
