    I loveeee how raw and real this is. I'm expecting in June and keep watching night routines with newborn and it's all wayyyy to "easy and fake" looking. Shows nothing of the mental toll for new mommies, actual dealing with sleep and crying, love that you do. Thank uuu super helpful to prepare

    • @LysHeaster
      @LysHeaster  4 роки тому +1

      Absolutely! I remember those first two nights being very tough on us so I thought “i need to just grab my camera and take glimpses” and I’m glad i did!!! It didn’t last long! He’s now 1.5 months and has started sleeping through the night 👏🏼 so there’s night and the end of the tunnel! And then they just basically need to eat and sleep! I have a labor and delivery q&a I’m posing on Monday I believe, and some newborn vlogs. I’d love for you to subscribe and stick around for them 💛

    Thank you for keeping it real! I feel like a lot of postpartum/newborn videos I’ve seen are really glamorized and make it look like a piece of cake which in reality, it can be really difficult between the recovery pain, little sleep, and just figuring things out as a new mama! You’re doing so great!❤️.

    awe i remember the first few days with my first. so sweet! and you're right you don't even know what to do as a first time mom.. lol however since I'm 37 weeks pregnant with my 3rd and have a little more experience now compared to back then , I wanted to tell you things I WISH people would have told me.
    1. keep day light bright as possible, and night time dark... aka try and do night feeds with little light. or laying down(OMG makes breast feeding soo much easier.)
    2. put a lot of diaper cream on before bed. A little pee in a diaper is ok. I was one of those first time parents that thought you had to change a diaper the moment it gets wet or the moment your baby wakes up. and no you don't want your child sitting in a dirty diaper, but if its not a lot of pee at night time with diaper cream it will be ok. trust me on this one, it'll cut those long feedings in half and hell go right back to sleep a lot easier without being messed with so much.
    3. SLEEP GOWNS! and the love me sleep/ swaddle. = LIFE changing.. go buy it now, seriously.. now.
    4. don't wake a sleeping baby! do this for your sanity. If your baby isn't severely underweight its perfectly normal and ok for the baby to sleep 3 even sometimes 4 hour stretches. and that means YOU SLEEP 3-4 hours stretches!! and this is major key for recovering and happy momma=happy baby. He'll most likely have a longer feed when he wakes or cluster feed through out the day to keep up.
    i hope this helps, I had to stop half way through.. now I'm gonna finish the video.. Good luck momma.. and remember you just had a baby. It's ok to say no to visitors, its ok to ask for help, its ok to cry when overwhelmed, its ok to need a break, its ok to feel the deepest love you've ever known and emotional. Give yourself grace, take it slow.. slow slow slow.

      Jasmine Kaney oh my goodness thank you!!!!! That was all actually really helpful! I do like asking moms questions and learning bc I’ve never done this before! I’ve found some are like “my way or no way” and i don’t like that kinda advice. But yours was all so great!!! Someone else told me about day/night lighting and that made total sense! We didn’t do that at all in the beginning!!! The diaper thing I’m that way after every change I thought he had to be clean at all times. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ and yes now 1 month out, I have my ideas on “waking him” so then at 5 days old I’m glad we woke him bc we needed too his weight wasn’t good. Even still his weight isn’t good :( I’m looking forward to when he finally gets up there and better. He’s lost weight and docs are concerned so we keep going back to appts frequently. I think we’ve finally got something going for the better right now! We make sure he eats every 2-3 hours during the day depending if he’s sleeping or not, just to get the milk in him. And then at night we no longer wake him. (When he finallllly hit his birth weight our doc told us we could stop waking him at night time) just last night he had a 5 hours stretch! 🙌🏼 he will get there... we are working with him to get better!

      @@LysHeaster I'm sure thats super frustrating! Are you still having pain w/ breastfeeding? is it possible he might be lip or tongue tied? that can make things super painful and also make it more difficult for him to efficiently feed, whether bottle or boob. • @LysHeaster
      @LysHeaster  4 роки тому +12

      Sasha S yeah, that’s what I’ve learned now since then ❤️ he was loosing weight at that time and not up to birth weight yet, so we were advised to wake him still. And even so now at his 1 month appt today he’s lost weight since his last appt two weeks ago ;:(

      In the beginning they need to be woken up because their sugar can’t sustain on their own. But after 6-8 weeks they can.

    • @crystalsky1029
      @crystalsky1029 4 роки тому +1

      Keeping an Open mind that’s really not true at all. They check their blood sugar at the hospital. Unless they’re premature or there is concern about their weight/blood sugar to begin with, you do not need to wake a sleeping baby.

    • @iamwithhim1434
      @iamwithhim1434 4 роки тому +2

      CrystalBee ok well I was educated a different way then. As I understand it for the first month or so baby’s do need to be woken to be breastfed. There are many things to consider why but hey if you are comfortable not doing so good luck. For me and my two girls who I exclusively breastfed that’s what I felt most comfortable doing. But I also had them co-sleeping with me so it wasn’t hard or inconvenient.

    You are doing great. It’s so hard being a new mama. My baby is 1 now and I’m also a younger mama. Will be 25 in June 😱 I remember the first few nights. I would just sit and cry because I couldn’t figure out what was going on. I exclusively pumped for an entire year. My son decided he didn’t want to latch after week 1 so I pumped every 3 hours and bottle fed. My milk supply increased sooo much by doing that. 🤷‍♀️ and breast milk is good for 6 hours out at room temperature (fresh from pumping) so it was amazing being able to sleep for longer than 3 hours. Your doing great though! You do whatever is best for little man. They used to say breast is best now Fed is best. 😁

    • @LysHeaster
      @LysHeaster  4 роки тому

      Miranda Denman yes 💙 fed is best! I had bee exclusively breast feeding, but grand would give a bottle of my milk in the middle on the night to let me sleep

    • @LysHeaster
      @LysHeaster  4 роки тому

      But he has lost more weight, so the past two days I’ve just pumped and given him bottles of my milk. How did you sleep more than 3 hours? Sorry I’m not following that part and I wanna know ❤️❤️

    • @mirdalynn7463
      @mirdalynn7463 4 роки тому

      So I pumped every 3 hours on the dot. And I had a oversupply of milk so in the beginning I would double pump and sit there for a sold 15 mins no matter if I was producing any milk or not into the bottle. So I would get 4 ounces-5 ounces total from that pump session. I would give baby and bottle to daddy and say goodnight 😆 no really even if it was during the day and I needed to sleep if I had enough milk pumped to take a longer nap I would totally do it. And my son also had his days and nights mixed up too. I will tell you what helped us was a good sound machine and the “halo” sleep sacks. They literally were a life saver!! I got mine from kohl’s. They have all different sizes as well so they can use them longer. 🤷‍♀️🙏 I hope this helps! But for real. Your doing great. It’s extremely scary and overwhelming in the beginning. My aunt told me “the scariest hood you’ll ever go through is parenthood” 😂 and boy is that true.

    If you're a newborn mum and watching this...you do not need to worry about feeding timings unless you have a newborn that is struggling to gain weight. Babies will tell you when they are hungry by crying and rooting. Babies who are happy and full with no apparent gas will fall asleep and provide wet nappies. Don't wake a sleeping baby, they will wake up when they're ready to eat. If your baby has eaten and has a dry nappy and is still fussy...remember, babies want to be cradled by their mum to feel safe and secure, and they'll feel this way for the first few months. Newborn babies do no know what a routine is and will not benefit from it until they are a couple months older. Just relax, feed and change and love your baby. That is all

So natural, normal and convenient! You won’t smother your baby. I remember waking up at every little sound that he made. When he was hungry, I knew it and would just nurse him back to sleep. So beautiful and easy.

    I am a first time mum, my baby is 4 days old and refuses to sleep in his crib or anywhere that isn’t in our arms for more than 30 mins. My fiancé and I are doing shifts through the days and nights to make sure neither of us falls asleep holding him. It’s fine because he’s so tiny I know it’s just what we have to do at the moment. But I’m watching these newborn routines like 🤭 I wish my baby slept in his crib lol. I’m also struggling with breastfeeding my nipples are sore and scabby, my milk is trying to come in but I’ve been having to wear nipple shields and now he won’t latch onto my nipple without the shields. We’ve been having to supplement with formula and I’ve tried manually pumping a little bit today and he really seems to enjoy that. He is so much more satisfied after drinking from a bottle than my breast. I think the shields stop him from getting very much too. Sometimes I just sit and sob my eyes out. Everything we’re doing is what is best and working for us at the moment and I’m sure I would still be crying even if everything was ‘perfect’ but god nothing can prepare you for being a parent. He’s so amazing I love him so much my heart hurts when I look at him and I’m obsessed with all the baby cuddles it’s such a strange bizarre feeling being so extremely tired and emotional and feeling so helpless all the time but the amount of love you have for your baby and how I wouldn’t change anything for the world. Not sure what I was getting out of this comment I just needed somewhere to get it out! This is such a real raw video and I really appreciate it x

      thank you for that comment 💘 I totally agree now and feel confident in that 100%! we woke him up for a while until our doc said we didn't need to because he was up to birth weight.

    I’ve always heard that you should wake a newborn just so they get into a routine and pack some weight 😊 but whatever works for you and your baby is what is best!

    Okay but no one told me I'd pee myself while trying to go to the bathroom. Once I'm in the bathroom I have to run to the toilet and I end up peeing in my pad and sometimes on the seat and floor. I don't have time to fill my bottle up so I use cold water that I filled up my last bathroom break (3days postpartum)

    My Mom has told me not to wake the baby up ... he will let you know when he is hungry! My baby is due in 11 weeks and first time Mama here too. You got this but I would say let him sleep until he wakes himself up and is hungry that way he is getting into his own natural pattern down pat . ❤️

      Thank you for being kind about that topic ❤️ He now sleeps through the night and it works for him. At that time he wasn't up to birth weight yet and was having weight issues on top of that, so we did have to wake him being so young to make sure he was getting as much milk in him as we could or else he would've slept all day almost
