Jeep vs Bronco vs Toyota - Which one didn't make it home? Amazing Weekend in the Ozarks
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- Twice a year we host a special weekend in the Ozark National Forest for our Patreon supporters. This weekend we had a great mix of Jeep Wranglers, Gladiators, Toyota 4 Runners, a Tacoma and a new Ford Bronco Badlands Sasquatch with us. It was a great weekend watching how each rig performed but one didn't make it home.

Definitely the first pre-trail prayer I've ever seen on any overlanding channel. Much respect my friend.

Didn’t help that Bronco.
I honestly watched this video to see how the Bronco performed. Very interesting to see the alternator placement in a vehicle that's touted as being designed for off-road use.
To be fair the max water line for the Bronco is roughly in line with the top of the bumper. When he hit that mud hole he was significantly deeper than that water line. Sucks none-the-less but I put this on driver error. Perhaps a little slower entry might not have yielded a failed alternator.
@@MattButlerAL this actually lead me to a question (or two!!) other than sealing up the engine bay and given the "newness" of the Bronco, is there a way to relocate the alternator and/or protect it from water-related failure?
Second question: in your opinion, does the Bronco provide anything superior to a similarly appointed Jeep or Toyota?
@@ericwright3646 I don't have any experience with a Toyota so I can't point to anything specific other than maybe certain angles and measurements. The Bronco does have some specific off-road tools that are unique. I.e. a front diff that can be locked independently of the rear, disconnecting sway bar under load, etc. As for Jeep in comparison to pure off road prowess a similarly equipped jeep will likely perform better mainly due to the extra flex you get with solid axles. But you pay for that with higher speed off road driving and on-road manners. For clarity I owned a 2001 Wrangler and currently own a Bronco Badlands the Sasquatch package.
This is a known problem that plagues the 2.7L.
@@ericwright3646 Ford actually makes a shield for it now. Getting mine installed this week
So good to see the Delta 4Runner back on the trails!
It was a great weekend! Great times and great people!!
Great video and I love that before you guys engage in off-roading you have prayer. Keep enjoying life and giving God the Glory!
This is the first video I’ve seen with his faith on display. My first thought was “I knew it”.
Noticed your 1 John 4:10 tat in another video. Cool to see y’all praying before going out in this one. I’m not an “overlander”, I adventure new and wild places through hunting and fishing mostly. It’s cool to see a different way of how y’all get out, and that you truly enjoy it. The wife and I would love to tag along with you in my trail boss someday!
It was an amazing weekend and an amazing group of people. The kids, dogs and I feel really blessed to have been a part of it. The video lives up to the hype! Thanks Matt, Kara, John, and Robert for having us!
Warms my heart to see you guys praying. Amen!
I'm glad you guys are open about all the brands and not dissing certain brands. So many people do that now a days. Every vehicle will have issues at some point.
People these days only see in black and white, and have to like apples, or oranges, but not both. It drives me crazy!
@@lunamaria1048’ve never heard it put that way and I like it!
I hate watching people like that, all these Vehicles are beast!
Amazing group.... What a trail!
I'm always been a fan of s 4 runner, but haven't really see much in technical trails, but got a chance to see it in action more often on this channel and begining to like even more. It's a bit hard on gas and has bad mileage but the V6 with 5 gear in it is a proven engine. But I, heard the next gen 4 runners gonna change engine into hybrid with 4 cylinders, 275 hp and 317 lbs-ft of torque. I'm not a big fan of hybrid, cause it's heavier, not very prectical with charging ( it took several hours) but you can used it all up within an hour. Jeep Hybrid got so many issues. Seen lots of complain in UA-cam. The recon-edition with extreme package was a game changer for the Jeep. Those who missed out are the unfortunate one's in ny humble opinion. For off roading I'm not a fan of hybrid, I prefer diesel instead of petrol (gas). That's my humble opinion. Americans you love gas more than diesel for off roading, touring, overlanding, but the rest of the world prefer diesel. Some pros of diesel is they're cheaper, diesel engine got more torque or easier to get more torque of it by doing a little modifications here and there, easier to carry, more ideal even for very hot weather or climate conditions.
Diesel has it's advantages for sure but it's a lot more expensive here in the US. I agree about the Xreme Recon package on the Wranglers. We love ours!
That's why I got a 3rd gen 4Runner. Can buy a LOT of gas with the $50k or so I saved by not buying a 5th Gen.
@@rangerdoc1029 3rd gen 4Runners are my favorites. Extremely capable and that 3.4 will go forever with scheduled maintenance.
any 4x4 with ifs..dont buy.
@@harrywalker968 IFS is pretty good for long distance touring, dirt roads with moderate challenges, it is good for towing. Solid axel is good, but IFS has it's uses in the overlanding world as well. Just got to be bit careful on your trail selection. You can have a bad day out in the trail even in upgraded solid axels 4x4s..
It was really nice to see a prayer in this video. We need more of that in general. Thank yall so much for what you do and spreading such a positive message.
@Nathan Anderson I respect that! It was just nice to see.
My daughter was recording and I didn't know she recorded it until I got home and was editing the video. I was glad to have it to put in.
Praying beforehand. I like this channel even more now. God bless
Awesome! Thank you!
Way to go guy’s, wish I was there. Looks beautiful.
Wow, you weren't playing around with the trails this time. Fun fun!
Thankyou for sharing!
Awesome video and great way to give back to your supporters.
Wow that was so cool! That trail doesn't look easy, I was sweating at times watching lol
Awesome video! We were in the Ozarks last week (6-13 June). Absolutely gorgeous area! That Waterfall was one of my favorite sites.
Thank you for sharing your faith by showing the prayer. Looks like it was a good time for all.
Did the 4Runner even attempt that mud hole? I have a Bronco V6 with a 3" lift on 37s, but I'm not fond of extremely deep mud. My rule of thumb, if it goes over the hood, then bypass it, LOL. Guess I'll be keeping an eye open for a better aftermarket alternator that is water resistent..
The 4Runners did not. If you watched my High Water Mark movie from a couple months ago that’s the same mud hole that killed the 4Runner in that video.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures Ouch. I didn't realize that was the same one.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures we didn’t take my 4 runner down that trail … John and I both drove my Jeep at different times, but I don’t think I would have had trouble in the hole if I stayed in the center. After all a Jeep on 35’s got through and the ifs does better in deep ruts than the solid front axle.the only reason the 4 runner had an issue before was because I tipped sideways trying to avoid the limb. If I had stayed straight, I would have been fine.
Man i sure wish i could join you folks sometime. But currently i own a 2005 Jeep Liberty Renegade. She needs a lot of work. But living on disability doesn't give me much money to fix her up the way i would like. Staying Safe Everybody.

Loved the video. This is one of my favorite ones. How do you choose which patreons get to go on these trips?
We do a signup list and the first 15 to sign up get to come.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures So the same ones could come every time if they are the fastest to get on a computer. That doesn’t give people that aren’t around a computer all the time to have a chance. This is our third time to do this and that hasn’t happened yet. On this one only 3 had been before.
To bad there isn't any Isuzu troopers Nissan xterras or Pathfinders in your video

Hey Matt. Love all your videos. I’ve got a totally off topic question. In all your Jeep years, have you ever had the “ ticking” valve train rocker arm failure that so many other people have had esp on the 3.6 pentastar?

The Toyotas and the Broncos are just not ready to run with the Jeeps. On moderate trails there OK but when the trails get rough it’s all Jeep! 💪🏻
The Bronco literally did that mud hole it was alternator problem in 2.7 not in 2.3 so your comment doesn't make any sense
@@hotrod7603 they break tie rod ends and steering racks amongst other things. Like I said they’re good for light trails but not ready to run with Jeeps.
@@DUNEATV as said they are aftermarket modified just like jeep breaks axle nothing common a stock Bronco on 35 like in the video isn't going to do that
Really I clicked on this video so I can see how these vehicles performed and you're going to start this video by bowing your heads and praying to God I just don't understand Christians don't understand it ever since I've been a child is far back as I can remember God has always been and pretty much always will be 100% no doubt whatsoever that there is only one God, Christians need to quit believing they need to know 100% not this believing in God and Jesus is a whole another matter Jesus is forgiven us for a sins God looked upon us for a wrongdoings Jesus don't forgive us for our wrongdoings just our sins and bowing your head and praying to God and you're enjoying all the things that life has to offer and appreciate it The whole time you're having fun and joy in life thousands every year die from starvation, not in the United States but remember this you're Christianity is worldwide so the lives that are starving to death are Christian problems God has them starving for a reason so Christians can family feel the pain they're in and help first thing I wanted to be it was 14 years old when I knew I wanted to be was a United States Marshall when I realize that is not an applicationable job That isn't appointed duty, after finding now knowing at the age of 14 I would never ever qualify to be a United States Marshal My second choice I looked into was a preacher, as I was research and deciding if I wanted to be a preacher or not it came to me like a vision but there was no vision it was just to understanding exactly how I feel today and I'm 58 is exactly the same knowledge I got when I was 14 organized Christianity is full of hypocrites they need to do God's work neither or jesus's work they just proclaim I'm a Christian
I feel better I got that off my chest think about it next time you pray.
Now I'm going to find out what vehicle outperforms what vehicle and I appreciate you for letting me know that, please don't damage yourself more by judging me cuz I promise you I do less for people than you do but I'm aware of it and I do self punish myself I've got grandkids I'd never met cuz I don't want happiness in my life until I can figure out how to end a lot of this crap we're denying God from helping us achieve what he wants That's where God comes from when you feel it in your heart that it's wrong do something or nothing That's the choice God gave you That's the reason why God don't intervene and help the starving and help the homeless He wants his children to do it.
I can't see how one man can do it himself for one person You can't go to any kind of Christian organization expect them to do what needs to be done because nobody's done it and it can be done but it takes effort for more than one like a gathering a Christians that work together
Just remember this is just frustration not anger and I'm more guilty than you so let's see who's the better car who's got the better vehicle.
The Bronco is the weakest link. Typical ford.
Males dont dye their hair that color WTH!
Thanks so much for telling me that. Your opinion really matters to me so the next time I get a haircut I’ll change it to something boring like yours just to make you happy. It was really very selfish of me to think I could have some fun and do whatever I wanted with my hair but now I realize my decision just causes petty people like you to be triggered and unhappy so I will change it just for you. 😂😂😂🤦🏼♂️
Purple, blue and grey hair? LOL. You should know better at your age. Outta here.
Aww are you sensitive to people having fun? Thanks so much for telling me that. Your opinion really matters to me so the next time I get a haircut I’ll change it to something boring like yours just to make you happy. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Cringe prayer
You’re a sad human if someone else’s prayer bothers you so much.
I like the idea of jeep having a legit competitor but Ford is just not the one to do it....$70k for a 4 banger with Ford quality control...no thank you.
I am so happy to see that you allowed anyone with any build to come. I took a Bronco to a Jeep group just to experience and hang out. They treated me so poorly that I left and never went on the drive. I haven’t gone to a posted get together since. I even got ride of the Bronco for the small Bronco sport because only driving on roads and didn’t need the geared up Bronco. This is something I really want to get into but I haven’t found a community that accepts everyone. I will try again in a few years but bless you your family and group.
That is so sad!!! It should not be that way.
Kind of surprised I’ve wheeled with a lot of Dif groups bronco jeep Toy never had a problem hope you find a good group don’t give up most fun I’ve had was taking my wrangler out with XJ group those guys are crazy great drivers and can fix anything
@tophercaesar5375 as a Jeeper. I have grown tired of the general attitude and self-righteousness. You're spot on.
@@tophercaesar5375 As a JKU owner, I got the same treatment at a Toyota meetup, so I know how you feel. Unfortunately, there are going to be bad groups out there in each car brand. It is pretty annoying. Hope you do find a cool group to roll with.
The more I watch your videos the more I realize you're a good guy, not just someone who makes off road videos. That's awesome! We need more good people in the world! I once heard someone say "we have a character crisis in the world". It's true.
WOW! Thanks so much!!
I always love seeing a variety of off road vehicles congregating for the sake of being outdoors. I like Jeeps myself but everyone has something that's good for themselves.
Agree, I'm a Jeep guy too (here in India I have a diesel JK) but I also appreciate Toyotas and Fords. I just hope the 4x4 community does not have brand wars.

Alternator problem in 2.7 only ford can solve that
@@hotrod7603 they already did it on the ranger, why the heck did they not think of this for the bronco? All vehicle alternators should be at the top ESPECIALLY OFF-ROAD VEHICLES.
I have been hearing the placement on the alternator has been a problem on the 2.7 liter broncos . Ford missed the mark on that one
And apparently slow to ship new ones to the dealership.
Yep, big issue. My brother’s bronco kicked the bucket due to water getting near the alternator. However the water was well below the fording depth that’s advertised by ford. Luckily the warranty covered the issue and we haven’t run into the same issue yet.
I think it more on the alternator than the placement.

7:36 and THAT is why I don't want to go wheeling in the Ozarks. Some people love mud, but I don't. To each their own.
the ozarks look awsome, Great video
This looks like so much fun 😊❤️
Praying before y’all lead out !!! What !? 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 that is so awesome and so stand up in the world today ! This is exactly why I love following this channel ! On 1-23-2017 I gave my life to Jesus and I am not ashamed and so did my wife Sara ! A year later my wife was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and it’s been devastating to her. After that it’s payed heavy on me and one thing I found was she liked camping and so did I. I liked four wheeling as well. So I found this little place called red river gorge in Kentucky. We made one trip down for a weekend and I watched her face flood with joy. After that I started outfitting my 2019 Chevy trail boss with a topper and a roof top tent and some 35’s. The kids and her absolutely enjoyed it. Then I found another channel called Coddiwomple overland. I binge watched Bill and Debs videos of everywhere they went and got ideas of places to go. At some friends of ours reveal at wildcat off-road park I met Bill and Deb for the first time and enjoyed their friendship so much. Then I went and took my wife to a fall back the byway clean up ride for the DBBB. There I met up with Bill, Deb and Kelly ( power wagon Kelly ) and we got to join their group for the ride. Since then we’ve all became great friends. Now I’m in the process of starting to outfit our 2022 gladiator. Because this is something we definitely intend to want to keep doing more of for a long time. I’ve recently ran into little issue with death wobble and trying to track it down. With just over 11k miles it’s confusing me but I’m sure I’ll track it down. I love the gladiator and it’s drove like a Cadillac until now. The friends we’ve made and the places we’ve seen away from all the tourists has helped her in so many ways. And all the while I’ve tried to use it as part of a ministry as well. But the most therapeutic part of it all is how it has helped my wife. God has sustained her MS and is still letting her enjoy life. I don’t know for how long but I’m making the best of it we possibly can. God bless you and please don’t ever stop giving him the glory and thanks he deserves. It will always get a like from me.
Thank you so much for sharing that!!
What brand cargo carrier is that in the Bronco spare tire?
Such an awesome weekend!! I'm ready to do it again!! Met some new people and hung out with some old friends. Thanks for putting this on Matt and Cara!!
I loved this video. I would enjoy camping in the Ozarks. But honestly cannot afford to do the technical trails. I went through my days of off road vehicle maintenance years ago. I spent the weekend in water and mud, and the week doing maintenance on my Blazer I had at the time. But this is fun to watch now. When my budget allows, I want to become a patron to OOA and hopefully Matt can put me on some easy scenic stuff. 😊
22:00 That Bronco 3 wheeled beautifully! I want one!!
So encouraging to see you open with prayer.
Great cars and Ride
Why are people not driving with there rigs right!!!!!!
Finally, a 2 door Wrangler out on the trails. That looked to be an awesome time! Sorry, I laughed out loud when the power shut down on the Bronco. There’s only one JEEP! O|||||||O

👍🏻👍🏻
The power shut down due to the alternator placed low in 2.7 not in 2.3 otherwise there would be no problem . Yes there is only one jeep and that was made by ford the gp the real one

Whew! There's poison ivy all over those trees.
Yes there is. Luckily I'm not allergic to it. Walk through it all the time.
Jeep with the silly angry eyes FTMFL.
The Bronco keeps on showing it’s weakness.
We are wheeling these broncos( Sasquatch ) in a lot more technical trails in the dry southwest certainly more technical than the one shown in the video , and they continue to amaze . As far as the water in the alternator issue encountered in this clip a little water crossing sensibilities would go a long way . You go slow don’t gun it to bring in a torrent of water into your engine bay. Perhaps the Everglades Bronco will do better when fording water over 3 feet.
@@JoseP-hj5zo I agree. They definitely outperform in many areas and the alternator issue can happen to any vehicle
We we get a quick summary of the vehicles: what model 4Runner, how did it do? How about the taco, what model? How did it do?
I don't know if this helps, but I think the 4runners were a trd off roads, and the tacoma looked like an sr5 version. The 4runners look heavily modded the tacoma has add ons.
I had a 17 JKU and I wanted/needed a truck I traded it for a Tacoma, the next year the Gladiator came out. I was still upside on my loan, when I was in the green prices shot up to 60k+ for a JT. I like my taco but I want to be in the jeep platform again. They wheel so much better off road. So soon as I can afford one im trading up! :)
Very pretty
