Hi! I am Michael Napodano and I was one of the designers of Harvester and I would just like to say that I very much enjoyed your video playing the game. I was one of the artists and played the q-card guy as well as tech #2 and many voices in the game. Awesome job and Thank you!
You're a legend, much love
Michael I have a question:
It's universally agreed that the character dialogue and the first day of the game are the best part.
You get to meet all of the townie weirdos for the very first time and experience their weird personalities.
Other aspects of the game however, namely combat and puzzles, are frowned upon.
Was the development team expecting the characters/dialogue to be the game's best feature? And what would you have done differently, many years after the fact?
@@MrBrimbles From what I can remember, the combat section was supposed to be more like first person but on the programming side it was not working fast enough to get it done in time but I am not sure if I am entirely correct. Gilbert was very into his story telling so that was a big part of the game anyway.
I've been revisiting Harvester since I discovered it in 2016. I always enjoy people's reactions to it, especially the character dialogue, town intrigue, and Easter eggs.
The game has developed a cult following over the years. We're always eager to hear new tidbits and trivia from insiders like yourself.
ive loved this game for yrs!! it makes me so happy that some of the team are still active on the internet 🥺tysm for being a part of this super interesting niche game!! :')
This is a comfort series for me. It’s something that I can put on and fall asleep too. I don’t know what it is about it but it always eases my nerves
i have the same thing with this game, and I think it's because unlike most games that make the grumps feel like they're going mad, the main character of the game (steve) is also dealing with the same feeling, repeatedly just getting angry like "what the fuck is going on here?!"
"Well Arin, we may have to call it here, unless there is a... *HUGE* demand for more of this!" *5 hours of gameplay remain*
The pixelated real footage games always were disturbing. Fun to watch honestly always my favourite long plays
You mean FMV, Full Motion Video
lmao love this playthrough
0:00 "what is this mid-90s lookin thing" - almost 6 hours later: "I do have more questions than answers...glad we played it tho!"
I don’t know how I missed this point n’ click adventure game as a kid but I love this so much!
oh i haven't watched game grumps in probably 7 years but im going to watch all of this. i love this game so much so happy they played it
I don't know why this doesn't get love . Thank you for the work
The moment I saw Arin figure out the chess match, I went, "Good job Arin! You got it!!"💕😆
I think it's a statement on the violence and violent attitudes that permeate American culture and society, especially the ones so ingrained that we don't even notice them. It's essentially saying that America/modern society makes people into serial killers, not violent media, but I think it also is basically saying that the reason there is so much violent media is because our society is so violent and not the other way around.
About natives American being gun down by a cowboy tv show
It was a mish-mash of culture and ideas. It was supposed to be weird enough to make people think while being interesting enough to sell.
The fact really is that the world, as a whole, was violent and still is. The food you eat, the TV you watch, the books you read... They all tend to involve violence to a degree, unless you stick to Rated G. It's where *the blame lies* that people get hung up on.
Easy scapegoats are picked often. Is it video games? is it movies? It must be *firearms!* When in reality the real culprit is *shitty parenting* and refusing to realize when you have someone whom has *psychotic tendencies.* Bad parents raise sociopaths, bad parents and genetics makes *psychopaths.* I've personally never seen a Colt or a Glock hop up on a table, announce its intentions, and then begin firing at anything. But we ban assault weapons instead of assault people; for a few reasons and none are well in their nature.
I’m so glad you put this all together! Thank you!
One of the best series ever for sure 👍🏻 I wish oney would finish playing this too
They did
Especially since Chris is still funny
They would 100% not have the patience for the entirety of the lodge
This...was considered a strange game, even in the 90s. 😂
Thank you
For some weird and fucked up reason my mind believes that the actor playing Steve/Protagonist, is Gerard Way.
the guy playing steve is a pedo
No, Way? No way! Wait, oh no, no yes way Way. Way Way, eh?
I WAS THINKING THIS 😭 they look similar
Happy Harvester Day, part deux!
i burbed at the same time as arin at 2:18:18 in a similar intensity
The woman who played the school teacher actually has some talent.
I gotta say: Deadly Premonition DOES get as weird as this.
Shit on a stickeroo is the best bit of dialog in a video game ever
Turns out Kirk Kistler who played Steve was arrested for possession of child p*** in 2010, and his mugshot has him in the same kind of flannel shirt as the game 😬
Fuggin fantastic!
5:14:14 my favorite accident on game grumps
Darn, now i really hope they'll check out Darkseed 2 some time, that game is almost as whacky as Harvester >.
I can't believe anyone ever took this game seriously. Must've been a different time back then is all I can figure out. This game is about as corny as it gets😂😂
It definitely was a different time. Christian conservative values were still pretty mainstream, video games were still relatively new (parents didn’t grow up with them), and politicians needed a moral panic. This game was an easy target for the media. It called itself “the most violent adventure game of all time”, features a cult that a disingenuous journalist could call satanic, oh… and children being unalived. The main character is literally being turned into a serial killer.
Imagine you’ve never played a video game in your life. You’ve maybe seen your kid play Mario. And then you hear all of that without any context.
This game is part Twin Peaks and part Hart She Holler.
Straight line face does exist Arin! :| see
If you call Knights "Horses" you gotta call Bishops "Crocodiles" too.
This game vibe is a little off. But its funny tho
as stupid as this game is, it's kinda brilliant :)
1:48:57
I still can't believe they don't know what a bolt of cloth is
I've never heard bolt in that context either
32:50
sure hope they play MrE of the Droods
1:43:11 Anyone else hear the COD zombies laugh? Hearing that gave my brain whiplash.
I was wondering that too!
holy shit it is!
Sooo.... This is game grumps? Not impressed.
