I lived near the Sun Ra house as a kid. Never say the inside. We used to hang around and listen to them practice. The coolest neighbors you could ever have.
Nice to see the fellas again. I spent a lot of time with these guy and more playing joy in our direction. It was enough to make you want to give up your death. Nice to see the house again too. I remember that big bright orange and blue painting in the living room along with the Sun Harp and various gig posters and awards Sonny had received.
This is where we need to be right now...brother way ahead of his time. I completely understand and have studied where he is coming from...the dog star.
Tate, I played in the baritone quartet that played at your fathers service. He was a dear friend of my father and the entire Jones family. I played at the Elmwood with him. I learned so much from him. There is also a cassette of your Dad, Charlie Parker, Beans Richardson, Art Mardigan and my uncle Phil Hill.

Four years late. Knowing is routine, a reification of the past--It's not jazz. As they say, knowledge is the beginning of ignorance (That's a lie; they don't actually say that. Whoever they are. lol)
like cult members, they all recount the same story, he really programmed these musicians with hallucination and depersonalisation , like a fascist African leader
...Like the shadow world governments and leaders programming the masses into believing something as absurd as racial superiority to people of a different geographical origin. We believe what we're told until we learn to believe the truth that lies within us. One.
we all originated in Africa, his race is not my bone of contention, I'm more disenfranchised with the marketing of so called genius , its healthy to think for ones self but when you openly lie to people in manipulative ways (his being from Saturn) I feel he has taken advantage of weak individuals trust.
That may be what it looks like, but that's not the way it felt. Those guys were there because the wanted to be there, for the education and for the exposure to music that could be found no where else in the world. There were many more who came and went, so there wasn't any coercion like you find in a cult. No one was giving up their money or their processions. Man, the fantasies people work up in their minds....
they loved jazz, it was a living, a way to travel the world, and a way to leave a legacy , these members of the arkestra are legends and made the best music EVER. long live the sun ra arkestra
rev.b yes indeed. All I feel from the Arkestra is Spirit. It’s spiritual music that tunes you to your heart. Listening to them is like recharging your batteries. Definitely not a cult, but a band that brings spirit and joy to humanity. What a service this band has been to the world!!
