A stumbling and often incoherent Joe Biden and an evasive Donald Trump discussed which of them was the worst President in history, and who had the best golf handicap. Senior Democrats have rallied round Mr Biden, but in private some are now asking a question many voters have been asking for months: is he up to the job?

The Democrats want Biden in a retirement home, or dead. They don't want Biden at all. What the Democrats really want, is Koala Harris in charge. They want her in charge so that they can say that they have America's first female, coloured president ever. Trouble is, no one is dumb enough to vote for her, because she's useless, and everyone knows it. So, what do they do? Put Biden in power, knowing he could drop down dead any time soon, then the VP becomes President without ever having to fight an election, and whose the VP? Koala Harris. No one's dumb enough to vote for her, so the Democrats get her in as VP, when Biden dies in office, which they're obviously expecting, without her ever having to fight an election, which she would loose on her own merit.
American politics, or all politics in general, should have the same retirement age as any average citizen's job.

Extremely astute comment and very well spotted. Make no mistake, Jill is treating Joe exactly like most spouses whose partners are in the grip of a devastating illness like Alzheimers. If Joe really is fine then why on earth would Jill be treating him like this?? Nor is it done out of mere condescending pity. It is quite simply the only way to get through to those you love by approaching them like a child and constantly using praise & rewards to reinforce perceived 'good' behaviour. So I cannot fathom how either Jill or those close to & around Joe can possibly still be maintaining the fiction that everything is still fine and this is simply the increasing onset of very mild so called 'senior moments'. That is not what Jill's behaviour indicates, never mind Joe's. It is inconceivable that this fiction could be maintained for four more years. So I strongly suspect that last night will ensure, one way or another, that something will finally be done to avoid that unthinkable eventuality coming to pass.

They are going to wait and see: If Trump's jailing really hurts him. If this is all over-blown by 'pearl clutchers', and the polls don't move. If Biden can demonstrate that this WAS just a cold (I doubt it honestly).
Realistically it would require him choosing to step down. Again, not impossible, but given his wife's attitude out there, I doubt the people around him are going to do anything but cheer him on... as he fails and falls.
