One third of the Philippines’ economy is directly involved in agriculture. Considering this, the agriculture sector can be said as one of the most overlooked industries in the country. Sadly, Filipino farmers become poorer and poorer over the years, resulting to less and less people wanting to farm. For Attorney Eric Acuña, founder of the agri-social enterprise Ako’y Magsasakang Organiko or AMO, that should not be the case.
AMO was founded by the principle that no farmer in the Philippines should be left behind. It aims to fight hunger and poverty by decreasing the farmers’ cost of production by as much as 50% and increasing their yield and revenues by as much as 100%, thus making food affordable for the consumers and improving the lives of farmers.
AMO is a combination of foliar fertilizer, insect repellant, fungicide, growth enhancer, and soil conditioner making it a 5-in-1 solution. It is seaweed-based, non-toxic, environment-friendly, and guaranteed safe because it has no chemical residue on all produce. An accredited researcher, fertilizer and pesticide authority Honorio L. Cascolan, PhD recommends AMO for higher yields.
Generally, a farmer needs 12 bags of commercial fertilizer in one cropping. With the use of the AMO 5-in-1 solution, three packs of AMO can replace eight bags of commercial fertilizer. That’s thousands of pesos in savings!
