Yeah, it’s a great feeling when your sitting still with sails flapping and you sheet in, the sails fill and the boat accelerates. It amazes me too. Powered by nature.

Nice job on the exhaust. Reminds me of when I had to crawl and work underneath the floor in my 100+ year old house when replumbing the bathroom. Felt like a contortionist, lol!

I can't wait to learn to sail. Your comment how you and your wife are just amazed at how the wind can push your boat along is on point! It amazes me as well that we can harness that wind which in turn allows us to explore the world around us which would normally be out of reach. Just like your little island adventure.
I've been wanting to buy a sailboat for a long time now and at 53 years old and a semi retired professional chef in my own catering business I was thinking that perhaps I was too old but watching you and your wife doing and enjoying this together has changed my mind. I look forward to learning along with my wife so we can do the same thing. We live in Pennsylvania but would consider moving to Florida especially since it would get us closer to the water and boats. Any thoughts or advice about newbies from the northeast moving to Florida?
I think you'll love it. I'm 50 and sailing would have been easier when I was a little younger. I grew up in Michigan... you'll like it here, pick a place with barrier islands, not open ocean or gulf... unless you'll get a really large boat!
@@AdventuresInParadise thanks for the tip about barrier islands. Never would've thought of that. My uncle moved from PA to New Port Ritchey just about 2 years ago or so. He loves it there. I want to go down and visit him, check out the location and see what houses/prices may be available. Just looking for something simple and easy to keep for me and my wife. Are you familiar with that area and if so, what're the average housing prices like there for something 1200-1400sq ft? I noticed you and your wife have a swimming pool. I've never owned on but would you recommend having one living in Florida? Do you guys own a house or a condo if you don't mind me asking?
No, we will not be getting a big boat. Just something like you and your wife have to start would be perfect to learn on I believe. Eventually, if we like sailing, I could see us getting a larger boat and sailing around the world or perhaps cross an ocean. I think that could be exciting and a bit scary. My wife is from the Philippines (we're actually here/there now. She finally got her visa so she can come back to the USA with me after nearly 3 years of being here. Covid made this process much longer than it had to be). Love to sail back over to the Philippines. Also would love to go to the Mediterranean to see Italy and Greece.

lol terminology police. I once asked a question on a forum and called a fixture a jam cleat. The cleat was related, but not the focus of the question. Some guy hijacked the entire thread complaining about my use of “jam cleat” basically saying I should be around boats. No one else weighed in and my question went unanswered because of that douche nozzle. Now, I’ve called that type of cleat a jam cleat since The early 80s, AND just ordered that particular jam cleat from a manufacturer that called it a jam cleat. Terminology is important for clarity but $&@! we can understand each other and allow for minor differences! Literally that’s what pictures and videos are for.

douche nozzle, lol... thanks. Yea, and I'd like to see some of these people make some videos it's not easy and if you say the wrong thing it's just there forever. I've actually fixed wording wit voice overs during the edit and nobody knew I said the wrong thing in the original video.

Great job on that repair! Really smart solution and great execution. That's the kind of thing you could pay somebody an excessive amount of money to repair and it would have come out half as good. And of course you wont have to go back in there for years hopefully.

Thanks, I appreciate that because it was one of those things that seemed 50% could go right or wrong and I wasn't sure which way it would go when I started the repair.

how the sails move a boat amazes me also... I think a clean slick bottom and clean props helps a great deal
It was cleaned by the diver two days prior to our sail. I can tell you from owning a Barnicle-bottomed boat once that it def. slows it down.
I noticed the end of the hose clamp rubbing on the opposing hose. You probably already noticed it but I wanted to mention it just in case. Great vids, I am a new sub... :)

Did you use 5200 between the fabricated metal piece and transom? If so, would a non-permanent gasket have facilitated the same hose replacement next time it’s needed?

Nice fix. I see there was exposed core. I guess it's less likely that water will get in there from the inside unless the stuffing box had a catastrophic failure. Digging out some of the core and adding theckned epoxy might add a little more protection.
Thanks. UA-cam provides free music to creators. Exposed core where I cut the hole? I think the 5200 went all over that, plus it's maybe 3 inches off the bottom of the boat. Hmmm..
Great repair on the exhaust, where did you get the stainless adapter plate? Great channel!
You can get the round pieces of stainless steel off Amazon for somewhere between eight and $14. But then I had to buy a drill press to make a hole in the middle of it for $84. at first I bought the plate and just used a drill to drill a bunch of holes to make a circle but it really didn’t look very good and I wasn’t happy with it. Thanks for watching!
Great video! Here it looks like the exhaust took less than 8 minutes to fix. How long did it really take? Was it a weekend project or just a quick morning project?
I bought the hose six months ago... but then I thought about it and dreaded the repair. I think that whole video was 8am at Harbor Freight and I was totally finished as the sun went down just after 7pm.. so one day!
That A/C is in a rather unfortunate spot. I can only imagine getting to the steering quadrent to work on it as well.
Yea, and new A/C models have it all in the one unit inside the cabin instead of split like this one. I think getting back there might be possible but I'm so afraid I would not be able to turn around, I won't try it.
