I think artificial scarcity is a dangerous ball game to play. Some regions still struggle to get certain models from GW that they want. GW knows FOMO works, but it also burns through consumer goodwill quickly.

Biggest thing for me was The Old World, as I sit here painting Empire models that I bought 20 years ago. AoS? Didn’t floor me, was hoping for better reception for Spearhead. Haven’t bought anything new for Kill Team yet. That said, I still have a backlog of unpainted models from KT21. Thinking about Underworlds though, if I can find anyone else who wants to give it a try.

As for legion imperialis, me and my friends are in build and paint mode! Next monday (3 days) we start our first battle. Once were built, and playing at the store, more people might see us having fun and say they wanna play too?

A lot of the Warcrow community view the launch as a soft launch w/ Adepticon 25 being the hard launch. We’ll be getting competitive and more factions then!

I get what you guys are saying, I want to say: "When the bigger players take no risks, the market doesn't get excited" but it feels facile (because the public isn't that discerning, at least, not all the time) but maybe, they're so transparent and formulaic, even a naive public has no choice but to take notice?

They need a horus heresy book series or the like for people to care about stormcast in a real way. But yeah, everything launching in a 4 -5 month window makes it hard to justify grabbing launch boxes galore. If I built and painted half of one in a year I'd be happy.

The only thing that’s really doing well is Old World, tbh. Tournament third Saturday every month. Casual/pickup games every Friday night. 40k is basically a once a month thing, occasional pickup games scheduled through Facebook. AoS is hurting, no interest in Spearhead at all. Smattering of MCP, Shatterpoint came and went. Some Sunday afternoon casual MtG Commander play but no draft, standard or modern format leagues, just casual meetups.

I'm sorry, wut? TOW used to be selling out in all of its items, but now it barely sells out at all. It had a stupendously good start, but its calming down to Horus Heresy levels, I think. AoS apparently had an explosive 4th ED start, but idk how its doing after that.

  • @omgponies111

Over here in Sweden you can get hold of Skaventide and most of the less popular Battleforces & Killteam releases from several stores. The Kroot, GSC, Sisters & Agents of Imperium Battleforces are still available from multiple stores. Termination, Hivestorm & Hive Secundus is readily available. Right now stores are liquidating skaventide at up to 25% discount. I think GW released too many big boxes and combined with the price increases they don't sell out. Last year I would have bought the GSC box in a heartbeat but not today since I have other big boxes I spent my money on instead.

I’m in a regular Necromunda group at a big LGS with a load of tables so always interested in what’s popping. 40k of course is the biggy with AoS second, but the Shatterpoint community here seems really strong, and I’ve been surprised at how much Old World I’ve seen. Certainly non-zero incidence of LOTR too.

Hoping Legion has a big year next year, they almost certainly have a new starter with the updated rules coming plus a resculpt with the whole range going into hard plastic. I don't know how it is in Canada, but in the UK, Asmodee's distribution chain makes it painful for stores to get and keep products in stock, which I think hurts the game. I think Shatterpoint suffer from a high buying box price (I think it has value but it is a hard ask) and sitting directly between Legion and MCP
As much as I have issues with Steamforged, the final straw being screwing local stores again, I had hope for Warmachine but the pricing is just off. The not been friendly to local stores seems the continuation of a trend
Local store says they are noticing people still buying GW models, but moving to other games. Now they get the bare minimum of codexes in unless ordered upfront as they just aren't moving. Plus battletech starters outselling 40k. Doesn't sound like that is the case with you though
While I don't foresee doom for GW or want it, I do think the combination of the 3-year cycle and prices touching on many people's tipping point, if they continue blindly they could see a retraction. This is always a worry as they haven't had the best track record of diagnosing the problem
Personally, next year looks like Legion, a bit of MCP, and maybe Emperor's Children if they hit an aesthetic I like. (It's probably not for 40k except in small games, well at least not 10th). A 40k classic, 3.5 ed, I think could really sell. Also hoping Konflikt '47 gets a good launch. Kurnothi and a Rogue Trooper games could also tempt me

Hopefully GW dont take any more deeper dives into more Stormcasts. I have had enough of Stormcast Eternals already I'm starting to almost hate them, and the beauty of AoS is that there are such diversity in factions and the setting feels so rich due it. It extends into Black Library books too. It is awesome! If AoS becomes a Fantasy Space Marine Boogaloo I would be absolutely devastated. Anyways love watching these videos. Keep it up !

Of course. We can only report on what we see and hear. Luckily with 20 years in the industry I have lots of contacts and people so I can amplify that quite a bit.

The Old World was the big one for the year for me, but I had been gearing up for it for a while before that. The biggest hits this year have been computer games. Stellar Blade is great. Haven't tried Black Myth: Wukong yet. I was waiting for a physical disk and I have to work full time. It can wait until next year. I didn't get into Space Marine 2. Sorry, the 40K lore is too depressing. At least fantasy worlds have some hope in them. There plenty of JRPGs too. So a big year for computer games.
We have to wait and see what happens with AoS and MESBG. The core rules for AoS have been improved but the list building is frustrating and the points seem to have been poorly considered. I wish they had dropped battle tactics but had included heroes leading units as per 40K. They could have used the 40K terrain rules too. As to whether or not they will get more people into it, I think there will need to be a shift away from the competitive scene. But the concept for the General's Handbook evolved into a prop for the tournament scene and a lot of online content is about tournament lists. The problem with the tournament scene is that the hobby becomes all about hierarchies and status. This leads to gate-keeping which sets the bar to entry too high for most people. There are plenty of other things one can do, like play Stellar Blade. I think 40K has the same problem but then they just released Space Marine 2. So at least people aren't going to go a play Stellar Blade, release it is the same Japanese-style high tech aesthetic as Infinity and play that game instead.
And MESBG. So new rules? What was wrong with the old rules? I have bought a few of the models to be retired. In fact most models I buy these days are the ones on the last chance to buy list. They just get too expensive once they move to eBay. I still have some AoS models to buy. I don't have Morathi yet, nor Shalaxi. But they are still in production so they can wait. And it is not like I am short of modeling projects (eg: all those new Darkoath. I brought them all). I've been buying older rules for AoS as well. 2nd Ed might have been the high point. Not sure what happened to AoS lore in 3rd ed. But at least I will have many of the books for AoS 2nd for future games or to pass on to young people when they aren't young anymore and look back at AoS with nostalgia.
Also, I have continued picking up old 6th ed WFB rules. This is my Old World insurance policy. Go on GW, cancel ToW! See if I care, hahaha!!!! What else? I have been exploring some fringe model makers who produce models in the old hammer style. EG:
Warmonger Miniatures (an off-shoot of The Foundry)
    Knightmare Miniatures
    Diehard Miniatures
    Darkart Studios
If you like old school Warhammer, check them out. Not sure what value there would be for a store to carry them, unless that store was well set up to international mail order, as the customer base would be thin on the ground so requiring a big net to catch.

Im sitting out 3rd edition KT having bought a lot of the 2nd edition boxes. Even though I really want the terrain the new prices have really put me off this time round. From seeing the discourse, it seems I'm not missing much either, hugely unbalanced factions, confusing rules. Nope, I'm out.

People have too much stuff. It's hard to justify spending this type of money when most people have a room or basement full of stuff they haven't even touched. The hobby is just to bloated with everything.

Well stores here sit on dominion, leviathan and the tide. Oddly enough new edition didn't grow AoS , 1+ year in w40k is doing a lot to make people quit. MtG and other card games oddly strong. No warmahordes return and it was once more popular the w40k here. Infinity is stable , nothing else grow bar maybe historicals.
