  • Hey guys!! After a lot of comments about still being confused about this year's FLL Masterpiece Innovative Project, I decided to revisit the topic and shed a bit more light. I hope this helps.

    I was just discussing how abstract this challenge feels with a few fellow coaches yesterday. Thanks for offering your perspective!

    I appreciate your help with the project this year. It is very challenging. Are there other resources other than the project overview PDF?

      You are welcome. I have not come across anything else. Possibly the workbooks that come with the kit. How about a coaches meeting in your area?

    I think this is a misunderstanding of what you need to do. The way I understand it is that you choose a hobby or activity and think about how you can get more people on board. Creating an immersive experience is only one possible solution. You can use technology and design in other ways to get people excited. You want to get people excited about baseball card collecting? Maybe design an app that helps facilitate kids trading cards. Or, 3d print a special frame where kids can display their cards. Then test it out- see if you can get kids who were not into card trading to now get excited about it- as a result of your innovation. And be sure to think about the user experience- does it look and feel good? That's the art part. This challenge is really not as hard as people are making it out. I had kids brainstorm: how do we get X more excited about Y. (As in: his do we get kids miss excited about opera?). The kids were able to brainstorm many ideas. Good luck y'all!

      I hear what you're saying but, if you look at all the mission models and the suggestion to visit a museum to see all the different ways they try to immerse the participant, you will see that the push is to get the folks that you're trying to expose to your hobby a better "feel" or "experience." I know there's always different solutions to the problem but, I have come to know that FIRST steers you in the way they want you to go. Definitely best wishes for all!!

      @@LEGORoboticsMrHino As someone in a tiny, rural area, none of my kids have even been to a museum to have this immersive experience.

    Luckily, I am the Robotics coach, and others are doing the Innovative Project, because even after your great video, I'm clueless about what to do. G.

    I don’t understand why you keep talking about how expensive certain ideas would be because they don’t actually have to build the prototype, they can simply present what it would entail on a slide show

      @LEGORoboticsMrHino  Рік тому

      In my experience, it is better to have the prototype so the judges can see it in real life and get a better idea of the size, weight, and look. Everyone can take their own route. I'm here to offer a better suggestion.

    I guess the challange is there is not much science in this theme :)

      It could be depending on the hobby and which direction the team goes with their solution.

    How do I get some kids to agree on a singular topic and still be passionate about it?

    • @LEGORoboticsMrHino
      @LEGORoboticsMrHino  Рік тому

      I had my team present their ideas to the rest of the team and why they should choose theirs. They had a vote and agreed to be passionate about the topic that the majority of the team picked. It doesn't always go that easy but, they agree to it so they own the outcome.
