A major hurricane is a category 3 and up, and some of the models have shown a storm of around that strength. However, since it’s still early, it’s best not to focus too much on the intensity since that part of the forecast is likely to change
@@marymays Thank you for explaining, I really appreciate it. I live in Saint Petersburg near the water so I am watching this really closely. I was near Fort Myers during Ian (We ran south from Ian because it was supposed to come here) Im a Florida native and I've never experienced anything like Ian before. Im probably going to leave again but you just never know when/where these things are going to turn sometimes until it's too late and then Ian was so large it still did damage back home in Saint Petersburg.. Scary stuff.. I think a lot of us are tramitzed by Ian. Thanks again!
@@marymays I guess I should clarify, I didn't know if you meant this one could be as big as a cat 5 or just a 3. It's the first Im hearing that it could possibly be a cat 5. I should have worded that better :)
@@hoppas77 gotcha! Honestly, it’s really hard to gauge potential intensity at this time but we do know it will be at least a category 1 hurricane! A major hurricane (3 or higher) is in the realm of possibility but we’re not at the point where we can pinpoint that!
@@hoppas77 any time! It’s hard to gauge these things but the fact that you have your eye on this storm and are already paying close attention and planning ahead will make a huge difference!

Hi great update! Thank you very much. When you say some of them show a major hurricane.. what is stronger in this case?
A cat 3, 4. or 5?
