Fun fact. The palace in nonsuch park had a beam which was actually put into my house. Some of the people who worked with Henry the 8th used to live in my house.
Well now you are in the Village I lived in. As a boy in the Nineteen thirties, I used to run all over this Park exploring and making camps to hide in. Watched the start of a new road, dual concrete with pedestrian underpasses that were to replace the south-circle road in 1939 As far as I know still there, abandoned. married in Nonsuch Mansion... By the way, I liked the Reigate fort restoration last seen by me about 1960.in a dreadful mess number 4 in the line I was lold it was the headquarters of the Home-guard in the 2nd world war for the town
I just stumbled upon this great video. I grew up in this area and went to school (Stoneleigh East Secondary) on the other side of the road from there. When quite young I remember the escavations of Nonsuch Palace... and we were told that in grease run off in the pipes below a kitchen, a preserved rat was found. As you see, that made a lasting impression! Thanks Richard.
Hello from NE Ohio USA. We have "The Emerald Necklace". It is parks that run around Cleveland Ohio. Part of the Metro Parks. Where I live we have Geauga Parks. They are scattered over the county. Been to all of them. Love parks.
Oh wond'rous moon with silvery sheen!Who throws its light upon East Cheam, From lofty height, and through the mist,Two o'clock Friday, chiropodist. How did that get in?! Where's the last line of my poem?Griselda Pugh: I rubbed it out to make room for the chiropodist appointment. You know you can't get your boots on if you leave your corns for more than a week! ( sorry Richard saw Cheam in the title and couldn't resist a little hancock "
I love the videos you do with Marq. Have always wanted to visit Nonsuch, especially after the Time Team dig there many years ago. BTW, when I watched this it was preceded by an ad for the Lion King, and then you two popped up in the Savannah of deepest Cheam, soon to be followed by a shot if a Rhinoceros lumbering by!
Well how very strange. Only came upon your channel a week ago, living in Goring , near you. In 1997 i moved from Cheam to here. My 2 aunties worked there in the 1960's at the restaurant you frequented. Many stories of ghosts in the corridors in the cellar....Spooky 🎃
Nonsuch Park is actually in the borough of Epsom and Ewell, not Sutton and Cheam. Hope that is not too pedantic. However, residents of Cheam have nothing like the Nonsuch "countryside" area in their own borough and are heavily dependent on this park which neighbours Cheam. In fact, in the 1930s, Nonsuch Park was compulsorily purchased with the London boroughs in mind, the GLC having paid the most to acquire it.
I’ve just moved to the area and thrilled about this park being so close… just need an off road mobility scooter to get around as my legs don’t take me as far as I’d like :)
Marq mention the London Outer Orbital Path (LOOP). This is a footpath running 150 miles, from Edith to Purfleet. It is spilt in to 24 sections. I live about 200 meters from section 22.
That is a nice place, it is a shame the old Palace was knocked down. I would expect it was something to behold. 1:46 was funny with the rhino man Well done another great video 👍
hi again Marq! was that a rhinoceros? had looked up the word "nonsuch" before Marq gave his explanation. the dictionary says that it refers to someone or something excellent or perfect. thank you, Marq! thank you, Richard!
I see I’m not the only one to spot it! Railway cottages East Cheam. No such place, but it was real to us!! Tony,Bill,Sid and Hat! Ken knocks at the door, rat a tat! Good evening, can I come in,I’ve just squashed your cat!!
Spent many a happy day in summers back in the 70s and 80s there.
Thanks for sharing. Non such park is my happy place. It is beautiful

Smashing place that great job guys 👍 as soon as I heard the word Cheam made me think of Hancock 👍
Good old Tony Hancock. :)
I used to cycle through this park every morning. Great to see you filming in my neck of the woods.
It's a lovely park to cycle through! :)

Glad you enjoyed it!
My old bird-spotting area 1945-48, when we lived in nearby Kenley Walk. Happy memories!
So glad it brought back happy memories.
Nice to see Marq again. Everything was so green with the rain you could almost smell the vegetation.
Good old Marq - full of knowledge! Thanks for watching Ann.

Good for you - and appreciated it!
Nice video Richard and Marq thank you. Shame about the weather, well done for powering through.
I do try not to let the rain prevent me - but it does depend how much of a downpour there is.

What are the chances of that happening? Love it! :)
I remember that Time Team dig. I lived in Cheam for a few years and Nonsuch is a wonderful park. One of Henry VIII hunting grounds.
England's idea of a hunting lodge = a castlle🏰
America's idea of a hunting lodge = a log cabin (perhaps a 2 story just to consider it a "lodge")
Another great park! Loved all the history. Sorry it rained on you. Really got a kick out of the Rhino Knight!🦏🛡
Sounds about right.

I am so thrilled you found my channel - thanks for all the comments. You are a star!
rather pleasant series on Parks
Thanks so much - a sure there will be more.
There is also a secret tunnel running from there one of the 'Chocolate Box' cottages a short distance away....

Not at all pedantic - we are there to be corrected. I am always making errors so rely on the viewers who know more than me to put us right.
@@RichardVobes Very gracious response!

Excellent - enjoy the park!

Something to walk at some point I guess! :)
Great video however they are really lost because Nonsuch Park isn't in Cheam. A geography lesson guys;

That Rhino man kept going round and round the park all the time we were there.
Great video 👍🏻
Thanks very much.
London borough of Cheam? I think he means Sutton.
hi again Marq!
was that a rhinoceros?
had looked up the word "nonsuch" before Marq gave his explanation. the dictionary says that it refers to someone or something excellent or perfect.
thank you, Marq! thank you, Richard!
That is an interesting explanation of the word Nonsuch and very apt to the this palace that is no more. Thanks so much for watching.
