I think this is the most useful maneuver for beginners to learn and become proficient at. I learned this from Aaron Roesler at a clinic at Mount Baker a few years ago as a total novice. Practicing the downhill u-turn until it became natural helped me gain confidence and proceed to learning other mountain riding skills.
I need to make some notes for myself of things to practice in controlled situations where I can set up a scenario that if I fail as I practice it won’t be a big deal. That way when I am in a situation where it matters I’ll at least have some experience under my belt. This is a good one to add to the list.

That's what I tell all of my students. Find a moderate low consequence slope and work it! 😬😳
