I am really2 sure the opening of this solo was inspired heavily by Vinnie Colaiuta's solo. The approach was sooo identical, with their own unique ways of course.
Some drummers myself included like to hear the kick very loud because it doesn’t have the attack of the other drums. But I usually just have that on my monitor doesn’t have to be in the mix but it’s how a lot of engineers are told or taught to mic this type of just drum performance he’s amazing, I can play like a beast this is another level
