  • Welcome to where the city's youth comes to party every weekend, and frequently more days than that. Oyafuko dori is a 400 meter street running north from Showa-dori that caters to students, ex-pats, and Bohemians. The area has been hit hard by Japan's 20+ year recession, but there are still nightclubs, bars, and international restaurants surviving well here.

    I was under the impression that the name was written as 親富孝通り, or am I mistaken? (to me 親不孝通り kind of bears the opposite meaning)

      jibunnonamae The original name is 親不孝通り, and yes, the opposite. The new kanji is an attempted whitewash. You can read a bit more of the history at bit.ly/1GcK3If - very astute observation though. Thanks for stopping by!
