Honorary degree: John Kani, Doctor of Philosophy, honoris causa

Sellenbosch University conferred an honorary degree on the actor, director and playwright, Dr John Kani on Friday (13 December 2019). The degree Doctor of Philosophy, honoris causa, was conferred at the ninth and last ceremony of SU’s December 2019 Graduation Ceremonies.
Kani is recognised for his passionate commitment to the performing arts as actor, director and playwright; for his dedication to ensure access to the performing arts for young people from marginalised communities; for using the arts to educate, to create community and as a tool of expression for the oppressed; and in recognition of his commitment to excellence in his 50-year international career in the performing arts.
