Hangnail picker, cuticle picker and yes, nail peeler here. I would pull and pick until my fingers bled. I found The Salon Life on UA-cam and learned a lot. Since then I have been using nail oil religiously. Either Jinsoon Honeysuckle + Primrose Cuticle Oil or the Foriotalas Cuticle Oil (Amazon) Huge difference! Zamberg Czech crystal glass nail files are the bomb. Amlactin lotion at night and if the skin is feeling “hard” around the ends of my fingers I put some Kerasal ointment on them afterwards.
I have to say that doing all of that has “cured” my hangnails, mu cuticles look healthy (probably for the first time in my life!) and my nails have stopped peeling. Once in a while I’ll still feel a rough spot on my cuticle or nail, and instead of picking I put a small drop of nail glue on that area to seal it off.
Love the Ziva cameo and thanks for all the content!

Please bring back more foundation reviews! Us 40 plus with dry skin need some good, non-sponsored, honest, non-professional MUA reviews! Your opinion I trust.

I buy them whenever they come out! The spring launches have just started rolling out. Winter is usually a very slow time for foundation releases.

I watch “the salon life” on UA-cam and started doing oil soaks between polish changes and manicures. It has helped with my peeling nails!

Also I have to remove the peely part. Wearing nail polish keeps me from seeing it should I get any. I still get some peeling on my dominant hand’s pointer and middle finger. I wear gloves and try my bestest to not use my nails as tools.

Oh yea, big nail picker here. Can't resist the urge sometimes, sometimes it's just so satisfying. You are not alone.

Thanks so much for sharing, Shelly! Sending you a hug for everything that you're currently going through. We've always had cats and dogs on our farm over the years and have had to weather sad times as well. We had to put down our dog, Duke, last August. He was 17 years old but it's always hard. Regarding picking and nails, I know exactly what you mean! I've been a chronic nail, skin, etc. picker since I was a kid (so thirty or so odd years), and it's SOOOO hard to manage because it can be exacerbated by anxiety, boredom, stress, you name it. It's ESPECIALLY hard in the winter when I'm often in a low mood to begin with AND battling the inevitable dryness so of course I'm going to be picking at everything in reach. My nails are also SUPER pliable and like to grow downwards, which is just an extra fun feature that makes them snag on just about everything at some point. I'm always on the lookout for routines/products/techniques to combat these habits, and it's so comforting to hear that you're not the only one struggling with this type of issue. Thanks for all the thoughtfulness you put into all your videos! :)

I have Excoriation disorder, so whenever I do a lot of skin picking, the top layer of my nails will separate and then I'll start peeling them off. During the pandemic, I started really working to make my nails better (Since I wore a mask everywhere, I didn't wear any make up, so I put my focus on my nails). I have been using Vaseline Intensive Care Healthy Hands + Stronger Nails Hand Cream mixed with a few drops of Jojoba oil twice a day and it has made such a difference. I also always have my nails painted, so I'm not tempted to pick and ruin them.

Very sorry for your loss. This video is so helpful. I have exactly the same compulsion with picking the bubbles.

Hi Shelly, I am so glad you did this Nail Care Video. I’ve been wearing false nails and yep, I pried them off the first time and wow, does that damage our nails. I for sure am going to purchase a few of the products you mentioned as I was at Walmart and meant to pick up cuticle oil and duh ( I’m a natural blonde) and forgot. I’m with ya girl, Iam so dry and my face is pilling so bad. And my nail beds are extremely dry as well. I’ve been massaging CereVe healing ointment on them, doesn’t do much. Will you please do a video show how you apply your artificial nails? Thank you sweetie. Have a great Fri night and weekend.

I'm going through the same thing with my nails! I don't remember them being this bad. I think I might have over-buffed out the ridges and that damaged them. I hate those ridges though! I'm going to purchase some of your suggestions! And hello beautiful Ziva!

ZIVA!! Ahem, good to see you too, Shelly😄 As for nails, I have no comment. I grew up playing the violin, so I've always kept my nails super short. But the tip about the glass file is useful, thanks! I'm going to get one for my husband, he likes filing and has been using the same ancient Revlon file forever.

I haven't worn nail polish in years. I wear them on the shorter side because I work outside. I cut them off every other week because they grow like crazy, but my cuticles could use some care, so thank you for the information, Shelley.

With me the compulsion isn't picking at my nails, but rather the skin around them. Ugh! My hands are so dry to begin with and when I feel stressed out, the scratching and picking begins. My thumbs take the brunt of the damage. 😰 I have found those glass nail files at TJ Maxx, sold in sets. They even have a big/wide one for smoothing the feet.

Yes - I totally do that too. I rarely get my nails “done” because the fist chip sends me into an uncontrollable obsessive mode leading to the picking/peeling of every single nail 😂

My nail / nail skin picking is related to my ADHD and the only way, I avoid ruining them by having my nails done in a salon using acrylic something.
