one trick i use if someone is afraid of a drill bit going too far and poking the outer body panel, you can slip a piece of fuel line or vacuum line over the bit leaving however much of the bit exposed that you need. and when you get through the hole the rubber acts as a cushion and wont mess up the paint on the side you are drilling from either.
Your videos have been a big help during the process of my build. Now that I'm about to finish it up I was looking at purchasing some pop outs from J bugs and wasn't sure of The quality and fitment. Once again your video has answered a ton of questions for me and I am very thankful.
Thanks for recommending the sheet metal screws I was having a fit with the machine screws and I used a long piece of weed eater string to pull the seal out of the jam
My 74 Super Beetle came with these installed, they are fantastic for air flow. That and they kill the helicopter sound I get when I only have the front windows open.
Chris, could you please make a video on how to replace the rubber seal for these? I have an old pair, and I need to put the new seals in. I don't want to break my glass.
I would love to put a safari window in my beetle. Does anyone know where to get one. Although, I haven't looked yet..maybe JBugs. Thanks Chris for great guidance.
How do your know where to drill into the window frame to attach the 2 screws and hinge to the window frame? I don't see any holes drilled on mine to screw the hinge into.
@@classicvwbugs just wanted to confirm; the holes are pre-drilled after '65? I have a '72 Super Beetle and we're considering doing pop-out windows as part of the restoration
Chris have you ever had any trouble with the aftermarket pop outs? I bought the top of the line and they do not fit my 68 bug. It’s like they are to small and I can see day light with window locked and closed. I tried to unbolt from factory drilled holes and center it up but nothing will get these windows to close up tight.
Chris Vallone no they are right year. I tried centering it in the opening but the chrome trim hits the pinch welt before the seal can make contact. I’m in contact with the place I got them from and they had me take measurements in the window and send it to them. Waiting on answer from them.
Chris Vallone CIP1, they are investigating now cause , like you said this is a first they have had any issues. I sent a couple pics to you FB account. They show how off they are at the top and short at the rear. The pictures are with the window in locked position.
Chris Vallone CIP1 takes to manufacturer and not sure what happened but they are 1/2” under size. They are sending me replacements ASAP. Shout to CIP1 for prompt and great customer service. They are my go to place.
If you did a headliner installation using contact cement and wrapped and glued material onto the window opening edges DO NOT USE SILICONE TO LUBRICATE THE OPENINGS for window installation. I did following this video and the silicone released the glue. A really bad occurrence.
Just do not saturate it, you don't dab it on the headliner material, you just use a bit on the seal or on the body away from the material. We do it all the time, you need the window seals to seat in. These aftermarket seals can be tough sometimes.
Hey Chris, Where's the best place to buy these pop out hinges? I recently got some pop out windows at a swap meet but I only have half of the hinges. I can't seem to find any that aren't in a kit.
Spraying WD-40 on rubber won't hurt it. What you don't want to do is soak rubber in it as that will cause the rubber to swell. Something quick like window seals aren't going to hurt a thing. Plus the "WD" stands for "water displacement" so you won't have to worry about moisture getting trapped in there somewhere.

Ah man that is a great tip my friend! Good one.
Great tip here. I will definitely keep this in mind as I start working on my 62 that I just purchased. Thanks!
very good
Brilliant idea, so simple yet most of us never considered this, thanks for sharing.

Chris thanks a bunch for all your hard work on your videos. They are greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much for watching, I really appreciate that.
Thank you very much Chris, well presented, my preference is your videos when I have an issue with my 56 & 68 Vee Dubs👍👋
I have a 64 , thank you so much for your video. Since the holes are precut I shouldn't have a hard time installing them myself 👍

I do have a video on that already
@@classicvwbugs great! I'll just need to find it then. 👍🏻👍🏻
putting mind into a 67 bug, thanks for the preveiw
Dude that’s a clean ass install
Hi Chris, do you know if a normal window fits into a popout frame? or a popout window is smaller or bigger than a normal window? thanks in advance
a normal one does not.
Will 1965 windows fit my 1960 bug?
no, 64 and earlier.
Thanks Chris 😊
Now we just got to see how to install safari windshield

Been waiting for this video. Worth the wait thank you so much.
Glad I have a 65 Beetle :). Who makes those safari, aka pop out front windshield? hard to find.
If I drill for normal latches but decide to up grade to super latches will I need to drill new latch holes?
Hey Chris, will 1970s pop outs fit on a 67 beetle? Or does the window get a little bigger?
Yes they should work!
How do your know where to drill into the window frame to attach the 2 screws and hinge to the window frame?
I don't see any holes drilled on mine to screw the hinge into.
As I show, you place the window into the opening and line it up. Make sure all is even all the way around. Mark it, then drill

@@anangelshero0410 Yes even before that I believe, like 61-62 they were pre drilled.
@@classicvwbugs thanks... That should make this upgrade much simpler, and as a newbie I'll take all the help I can get. 😉
What size are the screws that’s hold the latch onto the body?
6 - 3/4" sheet metal screws with tapered head.

what do you recommend for noise reduction material?
I have a bunch of vids on that
Look into quick roof. I also sell felt pad insulation.
Thank you chris
Thanks!
I'm doing to see a vid of a rear pop out window
Thanks!!
Do you have to have the chrome trim on the quarter window for pop outs?
Cool! I cant wait!
Fantastic, thank you guys.
Top job
What size are those sheet metal screws?
Scott, Thanks for telling me about loosenuts com, for a safari window. Appreciate you taking the time!
How much? 1968 years
My headlights and turn lights won't work on my 68. Is there any way I can find out what's the problem?
Adan Ramirez Maybe check the fuses
What color is that bug you're working on? It's gorgeous...I need to get you to build me a bug in that color. ;)
Subaru evergreen metallic. Very close to a VW color offered in the oval era called Almond Green.

I have a '73 super, will the 64 and onward kit fit or are the windows a different size to accommodate the crescent vent?
they sell a 65 to 77 kit. the window is bigger.
Hi Vallone, in your next videos you can put subtitles in english for us read and see. greetings from Brazil! =D thx

Is the mounting similar for Type 3's?
ooo not sure. Never worked on those

hmmm, have you checked jbugs?
Chris Vallone I didn't think to check there, I'll give it a shot. Thanks!
Does anyone know if there's a place one can take the original Windows from a 62 and get the seal and chrome done to convert them to the pop out style?
I think u can buy the hardware on jbugs or wolfsburgwest but I'm not sure
Hey were can I get a kit for my 1973 vw?
Google
someone told me not to use WD40 with rubber sealings, only silicone. WD40 will make the rubber hard and unflexible after some time!
good job though ;)
eh, not sure about that one. WD-40 is a remarkable spray, anyone out there with their thoughts?

That is what I thought too. Only problem I ever had with WD, is when I used it on my window felt channels. It gummed them up.
Chris Vallone gummed up is what wd40 does to locks as well.
