I learned to direct artillery fire from a T-41 - a Cessna 172 with a 210 hp engine and a constant speed prop -during OCS at Ft Sill. A pilot at the time I was really upset that I wasn’t allowed to play with it any. Always wants a 210hp Sky Hawk. Never happened but I could dream
I was in Ops of an F100 squadron in Nam. Had opportunity to “stowaway” a couple times with Army spotters in 01’s. Highlight-seeing elephant and tiger from the treetops.
Love the Cessna LT-19 BIRDDOGS! I had argument with some Military Captain about the Airforce producing a low reconsene comat airplane because they choice to built crop dusters for combat for Forein Countries instead of reproducing the Cessna LT-19 with a turbo prop jet engine instead of the Crop duster. The crop dusters would cost millions of dollars while the Cessna LT-19's would cost much less to produce and modify for guns and missels. That's stupid! My first Cousins husband Admiral Richard Brown would approve my thoughts!
The Italian company SIAI Marchetti built 86 SM1019 aircraft, which were Bird Dogs with the Allison turboprop giving 400hp. Amazing STOL performance. There are a few still flying in private ownership.
Maybe it was to *not* to interfere with sales of their other aircraft, but I am still a bit surprised CESSNA did not try to sell these on the civilian market.
Interesting view about how easy to land this plane is. Yes 1600 shot down but the rest has been groundlooped. We are 300 left flying …. I would never say it is pretty easy to land
I have owned mine for 8 years and it puts a smile on my face every time I fly it.

Thank you for sharing these beautiful Birddogs, and thanks to these owners for keeping such great planes looking so good!!!
Well done sir to all of you. Keep em flying long as you can.
Some of the bird dogs came to the military in Norway but today they seems to be sold to private owners.

“3500 built, 1600 lost in combat” 😅
Yea my jaw dropped on that one. Talk about hazardous duty!
The original Tree Top Flier of story and song.
It's nice sir
They were created up and disassembled, but hopefully not in that order!!!😁👍⚓🇺🇸
Constant speed prop?
I’m curious as to what this mans first language is. Because is sure ‘ain’t English!🙉🙉🙉🤔
