A really interesting concept I wish someone made is the UA-cam *commenter* iceberg. There are so many notable UA-cam commenters, with some being more obscure than others, that it's a really interesting topic to cover on its own. Being a long time UA-cam user, some of the most common users I see in the comments are Some Guy without a Mustache, Justin Y., OwO, Evil, Dam, Ray Mak, Newby Ton, Mr. Friendship and many more. There are also a lot of foreign, verified or community-based commenters I haven't mentioned. It's a really deep topic to dive into.
19:30 UA-camr "Yardfish" went into a deep analysis and bought on a psychologist to talk about the details of that whole side of youtube. If you're easily upset by animal abuse, don't watch it, but it's a very interesting deep dive.
A form of ‘comment percentages’ could be this: If a video has a comment section filled with very similar comments, (usually talking about something crazy or funny that happened within the video) a commenter may comment something similar to this: 99% of comments : [thing that happened in video wowwww] 1% of comments : this. An example of this can be seen in Tomska’s ‘The Hole’ video, where people play along with the video’s recurring gag and comment : “Tom, where’s [item, person, or place]?” “Tom : In the hole”. And there are a few comments using the same format seen earlier here. Other comments mention other forms of “percentage”, but this is just another I thought of. … YT comments are weird.
2:08 "You'll find these weird, auto-generated comments by bots that aren't commented by humans" Ah yes, thanks for clearing that up good sir, I would never have thought they weren't commented by humans!
Comment precentages is when someone usually takes a percentage for each topic that is said in the comment section. The best example of this is in the video Moskau where majority of people used percentages to what each person was actually talking about.
4:19 I don’t know how to explain it but here’s two ways on comment percentages. 90%: Inanimate insanity 10%: Pepsi 0%: drugs 0%: nudity 100%: (insert here)
"The longest argument lasting a whole year" No. On jan Misali's episode of Conlang Critic where he talks about Ido, an angry commentor named Anthony McCarthy commented something that started an argument 600 replies long. The last 100 comments are on the episode on Novial. This argument has lasted over 3 years. It has also made it into 2 songs.
Not sure if the Read More section is referring to this but it seems more interesting than the explanation in the video Read More, around the time Google+ was forcing itself on UA-cam, was "Click to expand comment". Also around this time, both the click to expand comment text and youtube links were blue hyperlinks with the youtube links showing their titles instead of the whole url. This basically made it so that you could make comments where the Click to expand comment wasn't more text but something more malicious like a screamer
the reason why the comments on undertale the musical are so short is actually because the people who write the comments are actually having a conversation. basically, they don't actually use the replies to talk to each other, they use the comments.
Another thing that wasn't mentioned in the video, is that how the first video in UA-cam "Me at the zoo" always is showing the very most recent comments, it always show new comments that were posted like 3 to 5 minutes ago.
I've actually seen people having conversations in the Undertale The Musical comment section. Like, not replying to each other comments, using individual comments to speak to other people. Edit: most disliked comment probably has like, 5 dislikes lol I don't think anyone uses it because it's useless
4:27 Just noticed the MF DOOM pixel art. Well done I'm assuming you used the cover for the Four Tet remixed version of MadVillany as a reference judging by the shading
comment percentages are when people say stuff like "10% of the comments: here for the cool music 90% of the comments: here from some influencer" or whatever
I feel like no one talks about UA-cam chain comments enough. Chain comments are mostly in reply’s, where someone will say something random like “cheese” and then someone else replies with “cheese” and the next person replies with “cheese” and it goes on and on. No one really talks about it because it’s like something you just know happens, it’s like a term and conditions when signing up for UA-cam, you see them and don’t question it.
I used to get those "wanna be friends" comments last year when I was at around 10-20 subs. I always replied to them but nothing happened. It kinda made my 11 year old self sad that they never reached out again, but I'm happy nothing more happened.
There's this guy called Savetion who has a bot network where he posts very messed up comments and has videos where he makes fun of popular UA-camrs' hardships and deaths. He also ran and possibly still runs a Discord server where he uploaded illegal stuff to it.
Oh this reminds me. In the Battle cats youtube community there was a problem where random spam bots would comment seemingly randomly generated usernames as comments. (e.g shadow dude 93, amazing horse 13 ) It happened for the longest time and would appear on anything Battle cats related but it seems that the spam bots have been taken down and the comments have been deleted as far as i am aware but it was a weird period in time and especially with how small and niche the community was.
16:34 As a BFDI super fan IM SO ANNOYED BY THIS! Also the series is ongoing still (after 12 years) but the original most famous one from 2010-2012 is done. It’s on hiatus right now but they are working on season 5 episode 2 right now. Sorry to be a nerd about it but that entry had to make me do it lol
The first time I ever watched BFDI the original season hasn't even ended. Found the show in around 2011. Was gonna go fishing but decided to stay up a bit and browse YT before I go. Saw a thumbnail of a pencil with a mouth and eyes and was like "yeah, imma check this". Remembered years later about the show, asked my mother "what's the name of that show I found where the objects are sentient?" she never could remember. Got recommended to me around in 2015, I went back to watching BFDIA (my fav) then went back, forgot about it again, remembered, asked my mother again... she doesn't remember. I get the first episode of IDFB recommended and I browse the channel and make sure to remember the name. I watched half-way thru BFB then stopped, have a running gag where I ask my mother if she knows the name of the show, to this day she still doesn't. Overall, I loved it. [had to edit the comment because I made some grammatical errors]
@@ilikeanarchy No, I meant that I never saw past season 2. But You are correct in that statement. Makes me wonder what things I may have forgotten because of this psychological law.
In Poland we have interesting case of Koprolity. He’s polish Justin Y. This guy is very known on Polish YT, because his commenting on every video of quite popular channels (and always comment sticks to the video as two jigsaw puzzles). If you get Koprolity’s comment, you know you’re famous.
1:40 i think its kind of just a natural urge when you get a lot of praise and attention for something you didnt expect, i know i have had to resist the urge to thank people, because not aknowledging all the likes and attention i got almost felt rude to me 😂but its good to aknowledge the fact that people will really not care, and prefer if a comment stays unedited
same with 'whos watching in ___' a lot of youtube comments just kind of show off common human behaviors well which is sorta interesting, it makes sense for people to aknowledge how long ago the video was released and seek out other people that are the same
Thanking for likes is pretty much natural at this point as long as you don't go all "Oh I'vE nEvEr GoT tHiS mUcH b4!!!11!" Although, if you do the "MUM IM FAMOUS" stuff, then you are an absolute caveman.
I think my first exposure to a UA-cam comment "journal" was in the comment section for the full opening song to the anime Angel Beats. It was hard to find the original comments at that point, but you did see plenty of users relaying the story of having seen it, and a lot of people on that comment section keep up the legacy. As far as I am aware, this is the "oldest" instance of a daily "journal" being made in the UA-cam comment section.
In case anyone's curious, the default orientation of the comment section or "Top Comments" is run through a YT filter that takes into account likes AND DISLIKES. So, if you go to the bottom of it (on incognito), that will be the most disliked comment.
I've commented on a lot of videos before, I don't keep count but I assume hundreds. I've gotten a fair share of "I see you everywhere" type comments. It makes me happy
I don´t know if this would enter the Iceberg but i'm gonna tell you a creepy experience that I had in the comment section years ago This happend 6 years ago, I was looking for some videos and then got to this really weird video of a priest sitting on a sofa and saying stuff in other language I went to the comment section to see if someone knew what he was saying and the comments said that the video was from Africa and that the priest was talking about the apocalypse What really freaked me out was reading a comment that said "After watching this video, I'm sure we are all cursed now" At first it didn't do anyting to my account but as days passed by it definetely did The first thing that I noticed was the really low amount of comments that I was allowed to see in every video If I watched a video with 1M views I would only see 40 comments maximun Then it started to get worse From seeing 40 comments I would only see 10, and the just a couple of then no matter the video and the amount of views that video had Even if I shutted down the computer it will still be the same You will probably think that it's not that big of a deal but at that time I felt like I was disconected to the outside world, it felt lonely, and couldn't interect with anybody But this story doesn´t end here, it gets a lot wierder It was 2:00 AM, opened youtube, clicked on a video and when it finished, I went to the comment section and stumbled with a comment that said something like this: "I don't knpw if anyone is going to read this. I can´t see comments on youtube and can´t access information from the outside as well. I feel disconected to the world. I think you are having the same problem as I, don't you? WE are definetely cursed" It definetely send shivers down my spine I was so freaked out that I closed the video and turned off the computer I didn´t log in for a couple of weeks, but when I finally did everything returned to normal and didn´t have any problems after 'Till this day I have no idea what the fuck happend
I tried to find the video of the priest but got no results I think it got deleted but I remember most of it The man was sitting in a beige sofa and had a blue suit on The background was a beige/white plain wall I think the title was in English and said something about regret
I've seen videos with this amount of views and this ridiculous amount of comments before. They were usually very old videos uploaded in the early days of UA-cam. I wonder if yours was the same
@@YehudiNimol I tested in a Pewdiepie video and in a RubiusOMG video but the same thing kept happening It just made no sense I just tought it was a bug from UA-cam but that comment was what really freaked me out
was hoping to see those like farming comments that were popular in 2016-2017 where it would have a format like this and the last digit of your like was what you got 0-1 (person from video) 2-3 (person from video 4-5 (person from video) 6-7 (person from video 8-9 (person from video) and so on. some of them used to say "you know the drill" and then list it.
6:15 I actually saw this person's comments on the videos I watch while I was scrolling through the comments section and kinda funny to see this guy in this list.
There's also "It's not a cult, ✨IT'S A FAMILY✨," which is also commonly used by members of the Jellybean cu- uhhhh I mean family. I cringed 14 times while making this comment 💀
I remember when the Pokemon sword and shield controversy was in full swing me and another person were arguing for months looking back it's pretty funny.
One crazy comment thing I see sometimes is how people get in really stupid arguments on comments that have aren't bad. They usually start because someone replies something weird or dumb
For the dislike button part, I believe that, whenever a comment gets a specific like/dislike ratio, UA-cam hides it for everyone, except for the commenter (similar to when you comment something using specific words and no one but youself can see your comment) and for the video uploader. But it still counts in the comments/replies counters. (Also, usually you can see filtered out comments when you order them by newest first instead of most relevant, including hidden comments replies)
"why is this recommended to me" is the most annoying comment.

I feel like the story of PicsMics6 and his comments on that one video should’ve been on here
(Journal commenter, only 15 years of comments, not 1)
cool story but I'm pretty sure he was only discovered after this video
A really interesting concept I wish someone made is the UA-cam *commenter* iceberg. There are so many notable UA-cam commenters, with some being more obscure than others, that it's a really interesting topic to cover on its own. Being a long time UA-cam user, some of the most common users I see in the comments are Some Guy without a Mustache, Justin Y., OwO, Evil, Dam, Ray Mak, Newby Ton, Mr. Friendship and many more. There are also a lot of foreign, verified or community-based commenters I haven't mentioned. It's a really deep topic to dive into.
Dont -read my nameieee-😂💪
Don't forget the new generation commenters that are currently rising like DONG

16:32 HOLY MOLY I DIDN’T EXPECT BFDI HERE!!! (Note: the whole series didn’t end, that’s just season one!)
Now I wish the whole series ended so I can stop seeing this
Yeah I’m surprised as well
A form of ‘comment percentages’ could be this:
If a video has a comment section filled with very similar comments, (usually talking about something crazy or funny that happened within the video) a commenter may comment something similar to this:
99% of comments : [thing that happened in video wowwww]
1% of comments : this.
…
YT comments are weird.
I’m genuinely surprised how much I learned from this and that I got an answer to the Checkpoint thing.
2:08 "You'll find these weird, auto-generated comments by bots that aren't commented by humans"
Ah yes, thanks for clearing that up good sir, I would never have thought they weren't commented by humans!
I hate comment bots, poor Saberspark has getting a lot of comment bots on his recent videos
Quick correction, BFDI as a series hasn’t ended. It’s still ongoing, up to its 5th season! The first season ended, not the series as a whole.

Comment precentages is when someone usually takes a percentage for each topic that is said in the comment section. The best example of this is in the video Moskau where majority of people used percentages to what each person was actually talking about.
4:19
I don’t know how to explain it but here’s two ways on comment percentages.
90%: Inanimate insanity
10%: Pepsi
0%: drugs
0%: nudity
100%: (insert here)
"The longest argument lasting a whole year" No. On jan Misali's episode of Conlang Critic where he talks about Ido, an angry commentor named Anthony McCarthy commented something that started an argument 600 replies long. The last 100 comments are on the episode on Novial. This argument has lasted over 3 years. It has also made it into 2 songs.
Show me the bibliography
iceberg videos don’t get old they are a trend here to stay
er gc 288
Not sure if the Read More section is referring to this but it seems more interesting than the explanation in the video
Read More, around the time Google+ was forcing itself on UA-cam, was "Click to expand comment".
I'm sad that Justin Y, Evil, OwO and Pixelcraftian arent here in the comment section :(
19:58 someone told me that if a comment is disliked enough it'll keep dropping below other comments.
i think by percentages they mean the ones that are like
90% are fans of (anime)
10% are fans of the band
0.001% got this reccomended in their feed
This reply section:
99.99% idk i haven't read it
0.01% this
i like ur lain pfp :3
Yup
I know it’s cruel but just the phrase “monkey hate” is really funny out of context.
It is
Monkey hate tomato flavor banana
Another thing that wasn't mentioned in the video, is that how the first video in UA-cam "Me at the zoo" always is showing the very most recent comments, it always show new comments that were posted like 3 to 5 minutes ago.
I've actually seen people having conversations in the Undertale The Musical comment section. Like, not replying to each other comments, using individual comments to speak to other people.
Edit: most disliked comment probably has like, 5 dislikes lol I don't think anyone uses it because it's useless
4:27
Just noticed the MF DOOM pixel art. Well done
I'm assuming you used the cover for the Four Tet remixed version of MadVillany as a reference judging by the shading
comment percentages are when people say stuff like
"10% of the comments: here for the cool music
90% of the comments: here from some influencer"
or whatever
“I’m the bald guy” got me dying
"I'm the bald guy" got me dying

I feel like no one talks about UA-cam chain comments enough. Chain comments are mostly in reply’s, where someone will say something random like “cheese” and then someone else replies with “cheese” and the next person replies with “cheese” and it goes on and on. No one really talks about it because it’s like something you just know happens, it’s like a term and conditions when signing up for UA-cam, you see them and don’t question it.
I lost all of my pre-2014 comments during the Google+ debacle. Unforgivable.

There's this guy called Savetion who has a bot network where he posts very messed up comments and has videos where he makes fun of popular UA-camrs' hardships and deaths. He also ran and possibly still runs a Discord server where he uploaded illegal stuff to it.

Love the video! Never thought there would be a UA-cam Comments iceberg.
Oh this reminds me.
In the Battle cats youtube community there was a problem where random spam bots would comment seemingly randomly generated usernames as comments. (e.g shadow dude 93, amazing horse 13 )
It happened for the longest time and would appear on anything Battle cats related but it seems that the spam bots have been taken down and the comments have been deleted as far as i am aware but it was a weird period in time and especially with how small and niche the community was.

As a BFDI super fan IM SO ANNOYED BY THIS!

1:40 i think its kind of just a natural urge when you get a lot of praise and attention for something you didnt expect, i know i have had to resist the urge to thank people, because not aknowledging all the likes and attention i got almost felt rude to me 😂but its good to aknowledge the fact that people will really not care, and prefer if a comment stays unedited
same with 'whos watching in ___' a lot of youtube comments just kind of show off common human behaviors well which is sorta interesting, it makes sense for people to aknowledge how long ago the video was released and seek out other people that are the same
Thanking for likes is pretty much natural at this point as long as you don't go all "Oh I'vE nEvEr GoT tHiS mUcH b4!!!11!"

We should unironically create a new comment section to the iceberg here
11:45 this can also happen by putting like an essays worth of words or more words or just long asss gibberish
In case anyone's curious, the default orientation of the comment section or "Top Comments" is run through a YT filter that takes into account likes AND DISLIKES. So, if you go to the bottom of it (on incognito), that will be the most disliked comment.

10:00 you obviously never saw globaloid comment section arguments 😭
I don´t know if this would enter the Iceberg but i'm gonna tell you a creepy experience that I had in the comment section years ago
This happend 6 years ago, I was looking for some videos and then got to this really weird video of a priest sitting on a sofa and saying stuff in other language
I went to the comment section to see if someone knew what he was saying and the comments said that the video was from Africa and that the priest was talking about the apocalypse
What really freaked me out was reading a comment that said "After watching this video, I'm sure we are all cursed now"
At first it didn't do anyting to my account but as days passed by it definetely did
The first thing that I noticed was the really low amount of comments that I was allowed to see in every video
If I watched a video with 1M views I would only see 40 comments maximun
Then it started to get worse
From seeing 40 comments I would only see 10, and the just a couple of then no matter the video and the amount of views that video had
Even if I shutted down the computer it will still be the same
You will probably think that it's not that big of a deal but at that time I felt like I was disconected to the outside world, it felt lonely, and couldn't interect with anybody
But this story doesn´t end here, it gets a lot wierder
It was 2:00 AM, opened youtube, clicked on a video and when it finished, I went to the comment section and stumbled with a comment that said something like this:
"I don't knpw if anyone is going to read this. I can´t see comments on youtube and can´t access information from the outside as well. I feel disconected to the world. I think you are having the same problem as I, don't you? WE are definetely cursed"
It definetely send shivers down my spine
I was so freaked out that I closed the video and turned off the computer
I didn´t log in for a couple of weeks, but when I finally did everything returned to normal and didn´t have any problems after
'Till this day I have no idea what the fuck happend
I tried to find the video of the priest but got no results
I think it got deleted but I remember most of it
The man was sitting in a beige sofa and had a blue suit on
The background was a beige/white plain wall
I think the title was in English and said something about regret
Also, I'm sorry if there's any grammar errors and excuse my bad English
I've seen videos with this amount of views and this ridiculous amount of comments before. They were usually very old videos uploaded in the early days of UA-cam. I wonder if yours was the same

Thank you for commenting this! The things they build looks really good
One crazy comment thing I see sometimes is how people get in really stupid arguments on comments that have aren't bad.
