Dude was a Shinigami for 2 years compared to minimum 100 years for anyone else in Soul Society and prioritized his growth on brute strength and speed, and put his trust mostly on this brute strength and speed. He always says "I want to get stronger," not "teach me some more fancy moves." I always thought it was very appropriate for the captains to have more techniques--it gave them a more cultured feel, which I think was appropriate to the situation.
When he returned to save Rukia at Sokyoku he was crushing lieutenants off blitzes. A Quincy soul bonded with Aizen's White for forming his asauchi. Ichigo broke shinigami records at Urahara's shop. Isshin is shinigami noble lineage. Like, him challenging SK Y'wach in merged-Bankai was built up to be more than "yeah, he could win that." Like your point about the cultured feel. The Gotei are more refined in control, usually. They have their wildcards like the Kenpachis, but they have put in 100s of years of practice and Ichigo is just built different.
yeah there's this thing in the novel I read, like beings that can transcend among others without any effort. 1. for Shinigami's there's Ichigo. before there was the soulking which is exactly like Ichigo in terms of strength. abnormally getting powerups. before he sacrificed himself and stuff. 2. for Quincy there's Ywach.. 3. for Fullbringers there's the girl who can create any reality.. Idk about the Novel might be fanfic.. but it talks alot about fullbringers and was cool af.
So Ichigo can't learn AT LEAST one other move, but it's ok for ichigo to go from someone who never used shinigami powers before to someone who is more powerful than captains within 2 years when it took captains centuries to get that strong. And him being a part of every race doesn't justify that fact. If anything, it means he has a higher potential than most captains if not all, but it should take him longer to master his powers since they are so diverse in their origin.
Also, remember that Ichigo isn't exactly in a position to learn techniques throughout most of the series. Any time he has time to train there are more important things to focus on than learning specific techniques (basic strength training at the star, Bankai training during SS Arc, control over his hollow during Arrancar Arc, etc.) and you can't even look to the time-skip because, unlike other manga that do time-skips, Ichigo is powerless during his.
@@eghoseisiramen1892 Not at once. In total. From the middle of May when he started, to the first of November when the Winter War happened and he was losing his powers. 6 1/2 plus the 3 months in the Dangai, 9 1/2 months. Then back to April with the Fullbring arc and the clock starts again, though unknown when in April, with the Blood War lasting a week in June. Ichigo was a Shinigami for about a year. Imagine how broken he'd be if he actually had time to train and master other things.
I really enjoy the subtlety that Kubo used in his storytelling that get missed, and the synergistic relationships that shinigami and Zanpakuto have. It’s why I’m always returning to Bleach as one of my favorite series.
@@codyyoung186 Hes talking about the relationship with the Shinigami and their Zanpakuto. I understand it. How the sword compliments the swordsman is really kewl.
@@codyyoung186 Oetsu tells Ichigo before he gives him his test that Shinigmai view their Zanpaktou as friends, partners, lovers, companions, etc. and all of those answers are wrong as to what they actually are. There are a lot of moments in TYBW that were really great. The title reveal though of The Blade becoming The Blade Is Me is probably one of my favorite.
This makes a lot of sense. Especially when the story mentioned that whether a bankai was a true bankai or not came down to your relationship with your zanpakuto. Renji rushed to achieve bankai to save Rukia but ended up receiving a lesser one since Zabimaru didn’t respect him. Even looking at Kenpachi’s case, he had been with his zanpakuto for so long and while he was insanely strong, he never had a relationship with his zanpakuto. He finally learns the name of it and gains a bankai that even his body can’t fully handle, resulting in his body ripping itself apart. It seems that a zanpakuto spirit must reach a certain level of relationship with the owner which can only happen once the zanpakuto feels like the owner is ready.
this coupled with his zanpakuto being a literal vice captain with her own zanpakuto manifestation and shikai(similar to ichigo and his zanpakuto issues) shows how much distrust he had in his own power due to failing to kill the first kenpachi and having no purpose but to fight. During TYBW we can see when he gains the sense of using her we see that the relationship is in the early beginning but a significantly powerful one as hes been with her the entire time.
Based on how the zanpakuto are a reflection of their shinigami it seems somewhat appropriate that Zabimaru didn't respect Renji enough to give him a true bankai back in SS arc, as Renji himself at that time has like half his narrative plot points squarely pointed towards him having some form of self-esteem issue or otherwise being a contributing factor towards giving him reason to doubt his own worth or ability. His origins in Inuzuri & how he was looked down on for it at the academy, the collapse of his relationship with Rukia, the strained relationship/ one-sided rivalry with his own captain, the insecurity he seems to display around Ichigo prior to his loss in SS regarding both his own power and whether he's doing the right thing supporting Rukia's execution etc. Even post-bankai acquistion, with Aizen saying that for his own plans sake he was the undesirable extra of his trio w/ Momo and Izuru.
@@snowboundwhale6860 yeah it’s as though Zabimaru knew that he wasn’t ready to be his best so he handed him a less powerful name for a bankai. It’s sort of like how Yumichika calls his shikai by a color it hates so it changes into that claw instead of what it actually is.
@@knightghaleon I always interpreted it as Renji received his lesser Bankai not because he wasn't ready, but rather he didn't believe he was strong enough. Think about it, he always has an inferiority complex. Ichigo gives him trouble their first time, he loses their next fight and has to beg Ichigo to save Rukia, and then he desperately tries to rush to learn Bankai to save her. In his fight with Byakuya all he can talk about is closing the gap between them. In the Arrancar Arc he doesn't get too much of a focus, and ever since then he's been training to compete with Aizen. Then Byakuya gets obliterated and he's helpless to watch. Finally he passes Oetsu's test, realizing he was the one holding himself back, so Ichibei has no problem telling him Zabimaru's true name.
Something to add. Zanpakuto Spirits can be antagonistic to their owners and may not aid easily. They do have their own personalities, likes/dislikes etc. Yumichika's is an example of this, where the names Yumi calls to activate shikai are different colors. His sword doesn't like a particular color and partially releases. Look at the relationship between Hisagi and Kazeshini. One is like.. no kill. While the other is like, kill kill kill and the former does not like that. "Yamamoto loves to burn things.... In style." was a great line. All in all. I enjoyed this video. Hope to see more from you.
Yeah great point. And funny enough, in CFYOW it's revealed that Shuhei misunderstood Kazeshini as well, so zanpakuto and shinigami having communication issues is just one of those things lmao. Really awesome way of adding to the relationship part
Soi Fon is another great example. It's funny because it's literally a mirror of your own soul (though it is its own entity as well). Hating their zanpakto is a reflection of themselves and a sign that they are not as connected as they should be. Hoping they give soi fon some love in the future and she's able to better utilize her bankai.
The beautiful thing about Ichigo is..... He grew in literally every battle weather it's a long term battle against Grimmjow, Renji or Byankuya etc or if it's a short term battle against Ikkaku, Ginjou etc. He grew, and the importance of Getsuga Tenshou changed alot. Each battle had a different meaning such as against Renji was ' RESOLVE' and against Byakuya was 'PRIDE'. That is excellent writing.
I used to hate the fact that ichigo only used a single technique when pretty much every other shonen mc has a ton of specially named attacks. Now i find it kind of badass that ichigo doesnt need a hundred different variations of the same attack to fight just about anyone.
@KingKami those forms do unlock new techniques at least. like sage mode allows him to do frog kumitae which allows him to fight with an invisible force of nature chakra that extends his physical attack's that his enemy cant see. and tail beast mode allowing him to use chakra tails/hands to extend around and attack as well. and i would count the different rasengan forms as separate techniques since they perform different duties. rasen shuriken attacking cells, magma release, melting. magnet release sealing. etc
@@raiden3013 Frog Kumite is a thing.....but he only used it like 1 time to hit 1 of the Pain puppets. I would assume because it too clisely resembled lightning cloak, chakra scalpel, and other similar range extending chakra strikes. Sasuke has a ton of abilities thanks to his OP plug and play USB 3.0 eyeballs.
Ohana is the shadow of Kyouraku Shunsui's personality. He is fickle himself if you pay close attention he just hides it under a laid-back personality but it unintentionally leaks out anyway. He doesn't kill Chad even though he probably should 'cause he was a Ryoka at the time. The older you get the more you know yourself (if you actually use that time to grow and learn) the more you can build a relationship with your own shadow and learn to accept the seemingly opposite you. The part of you that you cast off and sometimes even hate. The younger you are (like Ichigo) the more likely you hate your shadow. Like Zangetsu would be someone Ichigo would hate. Zangetsu is his killer instinct, the fighter, the one that hurts indiscriminately and loves it, while Ichigo built his persona around being a protector, a loving and calm level-headed older brother.
Ah yes, the easiest way to get the internet to understand philosophy. Persona Memes. White: I am a shadow, the true self. Seriously, I even have the voice distortion overlap, who the hell thought they were being slick with this shit?
That's a great point actually. Ichigo built his persona around being a protector, but he does so by fighting. Contrast it with Chad who also built his persona around being a protector, but he does so while trying to avoid fighting. Makes sense Zangetsu would like to fight.
Let's also keep in mind, that because of it being one technique, Ichigo had to use Swordplay combat in his fights. I'll take Ichigo swinging, slashing, piercing and parrying with his sword against opponents anyday. Hell the kid used Afterimages to surround and attack his opponents.
Issue with that is Ichigo only ever uses afterimage like twice. One with Byakuya which was in the Soul Society arc and the second against Ginjo which was the final arc when Bleach got cancelled.
Getsuga Tensho is also quite versatile. Ichigo uses it for long range, mid-range, and even close range (condensing it to his sword without releasing it to try and overpower Ulquiorra). He also uses it for precise strikes or wide range attacks which can be used defensively. I'm hoping to see him spam it even for just one fight in the TYBW anime
I just wish it actually worked out for Ichigo like Goku's Kamehameha or Naruto's Shadow Clone Jutsu. Throughout practically every single fight Getsuga Tenshou doesn't even phase the enemy so Ichigo has to rely on slashing them down.
@@Bloodhurl67 That's true. And sometimes it seems to get a power up with one boss battle then weak again on the next one. Some say that Kubo is planning to flesh out the TYBW anime more than the manga since he was rushed when he was making it, let's hope he improves how the fights go in the anime
My problem with how Getsuga is used is that it's never used creatively. It's very boring, except in one instance. I haven't read TYBW (and never will) and am currently watching the TYBW arc, so no spoilies. But the only instance where Getsuga is used in a remotely creative way is when his white inner self (which I think represents his hollow side?) takes control of Ichigo's body during the Byakuya fight in the Soul Society arc. In that fight, his hollowfied... entity, I guess. He says "I'll show you how I use his bankai" and then immediately demonstrates an advanced knowledge and usage over it. Arguably mastery. Instead of just it being a ranged energy attack (which is all that it ever realistically is), he instead uses it as a pressuring tool. We know that Ichigo has insane speed (it's one of the coolest parts of the whole fight), so he uses that in order to keep Byakuya constantly on his toes, making him constantly evade the Getsuga until he can eventually launch one that backs Byakuya into a corner, allowing hollowfied Ichigo to trap him and hit him with a Getsuga which does serious damage to Byakuya. That's awesome, that's creative. It demonstrates that Getsuga can be way more than a ranged projectile. But Ichigo never uses it in that way (despite seeing the fight play out inside his body). He never gets creative with it once. It's honestly just so frustrating. We know he's not stupid either. So why in the fuck is he so incompetent with this? It's so frustrating because the big advantage of having a character with a singular power is that you can develop, flesh out and refine that power. But that never happens here. It's the same shit every time, minus the aforementioned exception that isn't even Ichigo's doing.
Writing a separate comment so it doesn't get too wordy. I don't know what it was with 90s and 2000s shounen protagonists being required to have boring as fuck power sets or one power that never goes anywhere. Often coupled with them being dumb as bricks (Ichigo's an exception since there's a line about how he works hard to not be an academic joke). This is why I like the new generation of shounen. MHA's Deku has a fairly boring power set. You punch/kick things real good. But it gets developed. He can create powerful blasts of air using his fingers to turn his normally melee combat style into a ranged one (or at least give him the option). We also see that he learns to develop his power to provide him with incredible speed, giving him an insane level of acrobatic ability combined with the raw speed of his power. Demon Slayer's Tanjiro has a multitude of moves at his disposal. Granted, the power system of Demon Slayer lends itself to this variety, but it's still notable and important. Jujutsu Kaisen's Yuji has a boring power set on its surface. He uses hand to hand combat with cursed energy to enhance it. But even when he's barely grasping his power, he uses a delayed activation to increase the power of this technique as well as making it trickier for his opponents defenses to stand up. But even in the first season, this gets developed through the Black Flash. He constantly learns to develop it, learning the extremely precise timing in order to inflict major damage, as well as showcasing a constant growth in fighting technique between movement, evasion and attack styles. "But Raisylvan", you might be saying, "the Demon Slayer comparison is unfair!". Ah, that's where you're wrong. Because Zenitsu exists. He stands out as the exception. Where most people have a variety of moves, he only has one. Yet it's used more creatively than Ichigo's and it gets developed as well. Initially it's a single slicing motion. But he gets a whole backstory about how he should master this technique, since it's okay if it's the only technique he'll ever know. Which he does. It turns into the Sixfold version, where he can chain it up to 6 times, which allows for a lot more damage, unrelenting aggression and to navigate complex environments while not compromising lethality. In season 2, we see him learn the ability to use his insane speed to move extremely fast for an extended period of time, which greatly enhances his lethality and makes his sword more powerful as a result. So why does none of this happen with Ichigo? He never learns any new techniques (despite belonging to all 3 races), but that's fine. But there's no excuse for why his Getsuga never goes anywhere. Again, maybe it does in TYBW at some point, but I won't know until it finishes airing. But so far, it is such a bland technique he has that isn't developed in any way. There's no good excuse for it, as it has been shown repeatedly in other series that you can have a singular focused technique and develop it and make it interesting.
@@Rasea611 In regards to Ichigo not doing anything else with Getsuga Tensho apart from the Byakuya and Ulquiorra fights (maybe a couple more..not sure), I always thought of it as a character flaw. I remember him saying that the ability he gets from his Bankai is the insane speed (which was nerfed later on) which he was really proud of. However, I agree that the way he uses Getsuga Tenshou is incredibly basic. Though Ichigo's power set is incredibly basic, I think it's more of an exhaustion on Tite Kubo's writing. Whenever I see the captains fight (apart from Kenpachi) their bankai abilities are always very interesting to see. Byakuya's Senbonzakura has several applications in bankai form, Shinsui is by far the most creative even in Shikai form. Yamamoto also has creative abilities that I won't mention. If it's not Tite Kubo giving every creative thing he can think of to other charactes in bleach then maybe it's deliberate. It does make Ichigo stand out as he just continuously span 1 move in a world of creative powers. I do hope Kubo creates new ways for Ichigo to use Getsuga Tensho in the anime maybe more akin to how White uses it and the sword in general (refering to Muramasa vs White).
Great video! I think you could further prove your point by using Zaraki as an example. This is the only shinigami we know that has no relationship with his sword until TYBW, and what techniques he had? He could hit things, really hard. Oh, he could also hit things really hard with TWO hands instead of one. He was strong but did not have ANY techniques to back it up. On another note, I think people often forget how SHORT is Bleach's main timeline, especially when compared to other shonen anime. It took about half a year from Ichigo gaining the power to losing it. It took about two months from Ichihgo gaining Fullbring powers to the end of TYBW. Ichigo didn't even have his powers for a year. Toshiro was considered a prodigy, and it was regarded as considerable praise for Shinsui to say that Toshiro would be stronger than him in about a hundred years. But even Toshiro had tens of years to practice and master his power, a time considered extremely quick. Ichigo didn't even have a year. Obviously, Ichigo did not have the time required to master his own abilities, not even close. It is not lazy writing. It was clearly said that for shinigami, those things take time because you have to build your relationship with your sword, which is hard and takes time. Especially if you don't know who you should make your relationship with.
Toshrio had at least 20 years and up to 22 years at a Lowball of time Since that was when he was a Third seat and that is not including any time before that point and so of training and Ichigo Had about 5 months using his own power(with an extra 2 with Rukia power) or when he finally got threw what White was shooting at him during the Vizarrd fight and where Old man stopped fighting him, he had like 2 days) or in other words an insane Genius who is going to be one of the strongest Shinigami of all time has had over 40 times the amount to train or another example Chad who got his power shortly after Ichigo still has almost 5 times the amount of training, or how Byakuya had goteen like 20% mastery of his shikai at best since he improved it to look like his bankai implying a 5 to 10 times increase in it and this is after like 100 years of training or the best one how Yamamouto aka the strongest Shinigami had yet to fully master his Bankai after 1000 Years
@@1234andrewjacksmith Also the only time we've seen Ichigo actively search for a new technique and communicate with Zangetsu is when he learnt final getsuga tenshou. That was how many days of training and he was on level far beyond anyone, it was around 2 months of active training to be broken, before using final getsuga
About 3 months of non stop getting his ass handed to him be his power in full of course he then got stronger as soon as he got the lies cleared up, see him bodying Captain level fighters using their strongest form in Shikai aka like 16% power mode for him and then one shoting Soul King Enhanced Yhwach with his Bankai aka 33% power mode. You know the kind of things that puts him in the very top of Shinigami power with just him using Shinigami power(and then he can go beyond that eventually even at will since he admits that he has yet to master power on at will step). Then again him being so far above normal Shinigami in term of power was even shown when Byakuya goes Bankai the pocket dimension is fine, Ichigo goes Bankai the exact same dimension Breaks by his mere presence and the whole getting three techniques not counting merging them which would give another 4 and this is just what he showed Ichigo gets like 1/4 of the time to train as everyone else or even less in comparison while needing to learn 4 times as much
I feel like the time excuse is a copout for lazy writing. Kubo could've easily written a timeskip somewhere that allows Ichigo the time to develop his singular, boring ass technique or to learn new ones. Hell, the Garganta is used for that before the Aizen fight, due to the unique relationship it has with time. I don't think there's a good, genuine reason for why Ichigo remained the way he did other than some weird desire to keep Ichigo's fighting style as boring as humanly possible.
Ichigo fighting style isn’t boring any more than any shingami power set is boring with his multiple techniques since he does get more than one and that is more than some shinigami including a Few captains and ichigo technique is far more interesting than say look at me I am a massive target or hachhi and his kido which is the most boring of all
I always get feels when i remember the relationship Ichigo had with his inner selves and how kino it is when he finally comes to terms with them. It's amazing how many flaws you might see in the story at surface level are actually subtly explained or properly foreshadowed. Despite all that we could say that Ichigo also knows a few more techniques like shunpo for combat, konso for shinigami jobs, hollowfication, fullbring powers and even blut vene even though he only used it once. They're all often forgotten because the characters don't spam them or scream their names out loud lol.
Excellent video, i've always loved Bleach far more than Naruto for many reasons and this guy covered some of them perfectly. It's that heightened focus on the shinigamis as people and their interpersonal relationships with their zanpaktous that gives them so much more depth and make their stories feel alive. Battles in Bleach are not just about beating the enemy or protecting friends, it's about finding a deeper identity as a person which applies to everyone, not just the shinigami. Bleach is such a well crafted world. (i'm not talking about one piece cause i've never watched it and from what i've heard about it from friends, i don't want to)
Everything about Bleach is different: Ichigo is the main character but if you see how often he’s not in the story you wouldn’t be so sure. He also had no real reason to fight the main villain, Aizen. The fights in the Arrancar arc are very similar to the fights in the TYBW arc, with Rukia fighting enemies that become giant blobs, Byakuya fighting enemies that can mark and control things, Kyoraku fighting enemies with guns, Ikakku losing his fights, Toshiro fighting elemental types and needing the help of an attractive young lady to do so, Mayuri finishing his fights using Nemu, the list goes on. And finally the biggest thing, Ichigo wasn’t striving to become the Pirate King or the greatest ninja ever. He just wanted to be left alone. Literally everything about this franchise is different. Oh right! I almost forgot. The live action adaptation of this anime was actually good, most are known to be bad.
Aizen manipulated Ichigo almost his entire life and almost killed Rukia and kidnapped Orihime. Idk what your point about each character having their own unique fight about how different it is w when I feel most Shounen or atleast something like One Piece already differentiates the crew's fights in unique ways already
Even the name is different from the others, some mangas have their McGuffin in the title or tha name of the protagonist or important element of the story. Bleach instead is just Bleach. No correlation with the story itself, just bleach. I read the whole manga and can't find why the fuck it's called bleach
I think it is also the fact that the one move Ichigo uses it works. Ichigo's main reason for fighting or to get stronger is so that he can protect his friends if that one move is doing the job then he has no reason to learn another move.
@@edwincollins5847 Yes it would but you also have to think that most of his attacks are like getsuga tensho in that they are just more explosive. They don't really have an add on ability. Plus he doesn't have the rieatsu control to learn kido. Giving Ichigo another move is just pure fanservice.
@@inshaalmalik550 or use different tactics if you remember that episode when he was fighting himself his sword. White ichigo was using his chain to spin the sword like a helicopter and fight long range style. That’s pretty epic. But that would require some martial arts ichigo isn’t accustomed to
@KingKami i dont think getsuga has been that effective in the series. ichigos getsuga failed most of the time later in the series hasnt it? learning new techniques might help.
@KingKami goku is changing his features, adding KO-Kan, instant transmission. Ultra instinct. A red god form. And best of all sometimes some well choreographed fights. If that can be implemented in beach here and there that would be great. Even the mask ichigo does just enhances his strength but the fight remains the same. I don’t see him kicking anyone
It’s part of Ichigo as a fighter. He’s stubborn and strong willed. It fits his character to just keep forcing Getsuga until it actually gets the job done. And to be fair, he had a yellow Getsuga, then the black/red Getsuga. He has times where he holds the Getsuga in the blade without shooting it off, so his sword was stronger. Nevermind the mask upgrade. A short term power boost IS a technique. Nevermind Mugetsu.
It’s stuff like this that makes Bleach so damn cool to me. The reveals and rules come after the fact, but they still remain consistent with what came before, unless a character had lied about something. It makes the series even better to revisit, though I think it turns some people off of it because all the lore isn’t explored early on.
Another detail is that Getsuga Tenshou that Ichigo uses is not even a Shinigami technique in the slightest. Its actually a Quincy arrow shot masquerading as a slicing wave and using his Shinigami father's move name to be "convincing" that it is not a Quincy move. Also, Mugetsu's whole concept is final form Quincy that Ishida used. It's 100% the same move with end results. If you think of that its damn insidious.
@@zeppelincraft1443 final getsuga tensho isn't a quincy move, his dad uses it too. Also getsuga tensho and quincy arrows are different colors so I dont think they're the same thing
@@azaluna2136 Ah but the problem is we never get to see what Isshin’s version is. We have no clue what it’s actually supposed to be. The end result looks and acts like a Quincy last resort.
I think an important point to note is that Ichigo goes through the first few arcs of the show never using a Gestuga Tenshou, and in fact uses it twice without even KNOWING he does so. This is despite seeing several other Zanpakto users' released forms, all with their own special abilities and release commands; he never asks 'what about me, what can I do?' He just fights, fights and fights some more. He trains with Urahara... by fighting, fighting and fighting some more. When he reaches an obstacle, he finds a way to climb over it, then keeps fighting. This is indicative of Ichigo's thought process; he doesn't train to get stronger and then go on to win, he fights to win and uses those fights to get stronger. In a way, it's lucky Ichigo even HAS Getsuga Tenshou as a trump card; he discovered it by accident and without Urahara wouldn't even be able to do it on demand. Even 'Hollow Ichigo' claims Ichigo is pretty much a blunt instrument in both how he uses 'Zangetsu' and in turn the Getsuga Tenshou, with Ichigo not even using it in Bankai until shown how. This can seem like a waste, but in essense it's Ichigo's greatest strength: he doesn't lament or covet what he doesn't have, he doesn't even CONSIDER it. He simply takes everything he knows he DOES have and beats you over the head with it. Ichigo attacks you and then he wins. If he breaks his hand punching you, only then does he realise he can use his feet... when he HAS to and not before... and then he kicks you until he wins. And yes, that can be frustrating at times. It's the same as having a friend who always seems to succeed in the end, despite taking many thoughtless risks and often taking two steps forward then one step back. You try and explain to them how they could theoretically succeed 'better' or 'more efficiently' or 'at a lower cost', but it seems trivial to them because... well... they got their in the end. But the secret genius of living like this is that it means living without doubt, without jealousy and without lament. Who cares if there's a hundred better ways to learn, or if there's a million smarter ways to accomplish an objective. Who cares if there's 13 captains and 13 lieutenants and an entire society to beat. You try. When you fail, you learn from it and you try again. And eventually... you win. As long as you don't give up and never stop learning from your failures, you can fail forward until you win every single time. And I can say this with confidence, because I AM that friend.
"without Urahara wouldn't even be able to do it on demand" Not true Urahara could only teach him the stances but zangetsu had to teach him how to fire it

There’s also the fact that in the TYBW. 85 was stated that Ichigo’s zanpakuto has a lot of room to grow still, and Ichigo has only had his Zanpakuto for less than a year total. A few months before timeskip and 1-2 months post timeskip. Meanwhile Gotei shinigami have had theirs for tens to hundreds to thousands of years
Literally just hours, 3 hours of training, before fighting Almighty Soul King Yhwach. That's his true powers. I mean his EOS base which is at level of Dangai Ichigo or greater.
Fantastic video, I can't believe you only have 3 out. Your knowledge of the psychology and source material makes you feel like a very veteran youtuber.
Great video! You can also point out how Zaraki Kenpachi had no techniques for the majority of the series as well to further emphasize how the amount of techniques you have is a direct correlation with your relationship with your zanpaktou
By watching this video, i think if a shinigami have a really2 good relationship with their zanpakuto, they can achieve/transcend far beyond their bankai.
Nope you have it wrong. If a shinigami has a really good relationship with their Zanpaktou then their shikai abilities will become more powerful (see byak) and their use of Bankai will truly be their wildcard and not just a method for fighting a stronger opponent necessarily.
Man this is a awesome video, I loved the break down of Ichigos powers. Definitely depth to the power system of Bleach. I hope your channel grows man, you make great vids 🔥
While they may not have names, he does have other techniques. He has Getsuga Tensho, Getsuga blade(when he Keeps it on his sword), and double Getsuga, when he pins his opponent with one and does another behind their back.
his other moves DO have names, theyre just never said out loud. A few of them form the data books are: Kurestusen, kokuryugatotsu, tenburenji (the move used to cut down all of byakuya's sword petals)...theres prolly more but i dont have those books...
Great video! You bring up so many good points! You've earned yourself a new subscriber! I also feel that comparing it to Naruto and One Piece is the cause of many misunderstandings that arise about Bleach, so seeing videos that mention it is nice. Good job man!
Its also probably cause Ichigo is a very simple guy. And this personality is reflected in his sword. His only desire seems to be to protect. The souls of his sword great this, in the most basic, simpliest, but most efficient way. Its not complex, because Ichigo is not complex
Then that explains Ichigo's two Zangetsus. Old Man Zangetsu was protecting Ichigo from bad outcomes. White Ichigo (Real Zangetsu) was also protecting Ichigo as a survival instinct.
Duuuude!!!! I wasn't expecting such a incredible video about bleach!! YOU DID A GREAT JOB!! I loved you analysis and the way you managed to bring that concept that the relation with the zanpakutou brings power, not sheer, brute force, training. I take it like a message of Tite Kubo Trying to say that we need to have a beter relation with ourselves first, so we can get stronger and fight against challenges of life. Bleach is and will ever be my favorite anime, and I get really happy when I see someone talking so deeply about it. Loved so much your content!! Congratulations 🔥🔥🔥
Ichigo's Getsuga Tensho also looks and functions similarly to a Quincy technique; collecting reichi and firing it off, not unlike a Heilig Pfil, and his Final Getsuga Tensho reminds me a lot of Letzt Stil, both in its very name and the way it temporarily supercharges the user, at the cost of almost completely snuffing out their spiritual power. It's only natural that the Getsuga Tensho is the one technique that Old Man Zangetsu would approve of while he was his main spiritual power and still conflicted about whether he should aid Ichigo in battle, it's even possible that it's the only one of Zangetsu's techniques that he could imitate, which is why it is white/blue when he's not in Bankai and therefore not using White's power. White Zangetsu on the other hand, was encouraging Ichigo's insane growth every step of the way and willing to step in if he was under great duress or incapacitated in battle. I believe he was using threats to motivate him, because he new full well that Ichigo didn't trust him, so he played the role of the antagonist to the Old Man's role of the trusted mentor.
This video is very well made and I like that you covered other characters and their relationship with their zanpakutos to Ichigo's situation. It's a much more detailed explanation than if you didn't.
I ... always taught it was obvious. That's one of the reason I like Bleach story so much. I like the growth of Ichigo, how he needs fight his inner demons and accept who he is.
I typically like seeing characters with limited abilities because the writer can emphasize other aspects of the character through they use that ability. Like Bakugo's use of explosions. We seen hollow ichigo demonstrate several ways to Zangestu that Ichigo never learned. Using the cloth on the hilt and curving gesuta comes to mind. Ichigo is simply not creative, only swinging the sword
The Zanupakuto is one of the greatest things to analyze about Bleach, since often times it reflects on the characters development. And we've seen over time how Ichigo's form and Zanupakuto have changed, even if his abilities have not. Ichigo is one of the few folks to not receive an Asauchi, and for spoiler reasons, it is also one of the reasons why his Zanupakuto act the way that it does. If Ichigo is what he is, and he only finds further resolve, then how much does that really change? But I'm sure everyone has their own ideas about it.
wow dude a fan of Bleach and Shinza Bansho (musics and images of K3 and DI) also i saw a TSE image at somepoint i think ya have based taste, im subbing to this channel
Video was a little long and could have been shortened a little for the sake of being concise, but the analysis was spot on and gave me a new understand of the series, great job
Bleach fights are almost always about ideals and philosophy These get drowned out if the characters are making 4d chess moves in a fight Especially since raw power almost always comes out on top anyway
I'm always amazing my inability to fully understand and dive deep into concepts in stories. One of the things I really love about UA-cam creators is when you find ones like you who are able to shine new lights on my favorite stories that I've watched or read. You just earned my sub and I wish your channel great success in the future.
Kubo really did exemplify ShuHaRi in bleach's setting, look at any of the captains, lieutenants, or even many other factions and in all cases they're masters of one thing in particular. Zanpakuto have one specific trait to them that defines their method of use and their bankai forms further emphasize that. But ichigo's is a case of when unrefined it's big and unwieldy and the first thing he learns to unleash it's power is similarly big and unwieldy, but as he masters it it goes from swinging a massive cleaver to slicing with a scalpel, all while the other reapers tend to spread themselves thin and view tetsuga tensho as a basic move which leaves them surprised when it's so powerful. Ichigo is literally the concept given form to the point that even when Bleach itself surfaces vs Ulquiorra, for all it's mad flailing, it's incredibly precise, taking an arm in one quick motion, using just enough power to overwhelm Cero's and not hit his allies even in that state, indicating that his refined abilities still translate. Even his final form exemplifies this, a sword and dagger is a very precise weapon combo that relies on parrying skill generally, a skill we've seen Ichigo had mastered to defeat aizen. And then there's where the anime ended with that brilliant show of power and precision slicing the building.
I wonder about that though. Looking at the few Shiba members we know of, Isshin has a fire type and Kaien has a water type. I wonder if Ichigos is somewhat of an elemental type as well. Obviously Ichigos is more complicated being that his zanpakto is inherently a fusion of Isshins and White, as Isshin fused his soul with Masaki and Masaki was fused with White. Which is shown by them both using getsuga tensho. I think this is also why his quincy side is a part of his zanpakto aside from just being a part of his soul alone because ordinarily I wouldn't think you'd be able to "mix" them together in that way. You may be able to use both sides separately but they are fused into his zanpakto which is a shinigami exclusive ability. Maybe that's not how it works but... This leads me to think that Ichigo MIGHT have some sort of "soul" element type or something like that.
I honestly always considered Ichigo's Zanpakutou to be almost dark element based. In a large amount of fantasy stories/settings darkness and light are considered just as much elemental as fire, ice, etc.
@@rustycalloway1814 yeah plus tbh I don't think there's really a "type" of zanpakto even if the wiki etc states so. Certainty there's some gray area. Like if Zangetsu is a pure melee type, isn't getsuga closer to a kido in a way?
@@babaG819 yeah. The getsuga is more of a release of spiritual pressure like a kido. However, Ishida notes when firing arrows from zangetsu that it's closer to a quincy power. So I'd say it's actually more like Ishidas arrows but from a zanpukto with hollow riatsu and shinigami riatsu fused. It's a combination of his different spiritual pressures. That's why the color changes in his bankai which is noted to have the hollow spirit pressure embedded within it. I'd assume the getsuga looks black even in shikai assuming he's hollowfied
@@LuciferArc1 Ullquirroa also stated that Ichigo's getsuga is basically like a cero...which is more hints towards ichigo's heritage far early in the series
Great video! This also make sence when we look at Zaraki. He didn't try to connect to his zanpakuto AT ALL for the most of his life and doesn't have ANY techniques. Also, I personally don't mind Ichigo having only one main technique. It's one of the things I like about the guy. It just really fits his personality, makes him more unique for me among other shounen protagonists.
I also like the fact that the (shikai version of) Getsuga Tenshou is shaded the same colour as Quincy Arrows, and like a Quincy Arrow is a reishi based ranged attack. Considering his Quincy side was limiting his power, it actually makes perfect sense that his Getsuga Tenshou looks like a sword slash version of a Quincy Arrow, and helps explain why it's so different from Isshin's Getsuga Tenshou.
The technique itself works like Quincy arrow firing: The sword absorbs Ichigo own Reiatsu and fires it as energy, just like Quincy absorb the Reishi around them to fire it as concentrated energy
@@Abyssionknight Sorta. Sorta not. The Soul King has golden spiritual energy and Ichigo having golden energy as well was meant to hint that he is of a similar nature to the soul king as a fusion of all the races.
@@IsshinShirosaki saw somewhere that seth stopped funding the project. The animator hosted a gofundme to continue the project, otherwise it’ll probably get scrapped soon.
Wow man, honestly amazing video. From the first moment of you narrating this I immediately understood the point you were making and it was sooo obvious to me but, I never actually made the connection before watching this. Keep it up! Subscribed
I've always felt that Ichigo's Getsuga Tensho was a combination of the attacks. Its a powerful energy blast, not unlike a form of cero. White Hollow Ichigo uses Getsuga and it's almost whiplike in appearance, before firing. It's also directional, like both a cero and quincy arrow. Also, as commented by others, it's a huge attack, it works, why bother having lots of special attacks, when that one works against most opponents?
As a lot of characters say iin the comic f you want victory, you need to think and commit. Ichigo refuses it. There was a lot of things Ichigo "could" have done with Zangetsu. But the "old man" which...actually is a Quincy does not grant him the power growth. In the early fights with Kenpachi, old man Zangetsu used several Quincy abilities on Ichigo to seal his wounds for a moment or make him rise up fighting. ...A normal Zanpakuto cannot just seal wounds conveniently or make your body move again when its knocked out. But Quincies absolutely can. Another dead giveaway was when Ishida placed his bow on Zangetsu and it started to amp it up for no apparent reason.
Bleach is simultaneously so brilliant and simplistic when you accept one axiom: your zanpakutou is you. It really is that simple and simultaneously earth-shattering as a realization, and Kubo illustrates this esoteric point so well seemingly in the most bizarre ways like spats between zanpakutou and shinigami and a host of other manners, but it's just wonderful to see a world which is so deliberately conceived which, seemingly, abandons its own ideologies, in fact, adhere to them so strongly throughout the story
This is a very meaningful content. Thank you. I am an anime-only guy but was filled up about the TYBW by youtubers like you who really do research and are not only clickbaiters. I really didn't mind spoilers. The more spoilers, the more i am excited for the anime. lmao.
I loved this video, it honestly gave me a new understanding of Bleach and I appreciate it a lot more than I did before. The whole concept of Ichigos powers is very interesting and well done throughout the series.
So now I guess the real test is what Ichigo has to show us in the Hell arc. 15 years should be enough time to learn at least one new technique. But otoh, he also potentially has (among other things) cero, blut, and soul manipulation to master that he never got around to.
Despite it being only 1 move he uses it in different ways constantly Wrapping it around the blade, using different getsugas to corner grimjaw Blasting the ground to make a shockwave etc. I saw it as the same thing as any normal warrior, we are born with the same legs and arms we die with, we use the same hands in different ways same with getsuga
It's always nice to see some new content and views about something you like, it's only been 3 videos but here I hope to be able to follow your channel for a long time, godspeed and keep up the good work
Excellent video I really enjoyed your content. Some additional points that I think either you intentionally skipped due to spoilers or you may have glossed over during your research. Since Ichigo didn't know everything, including who his mother really was and who his father really was..... the very core of his soul was in flux. it was vague. unformed. One of the oldest and most unifying themes in Shonen Manga and anime is self-discovery. exploration of who you are. what you are. where you came from, and where you're going to go forward in your life with this knowledge. Since Ichigo didn't know any of this for 15 years after losing his mother so suddenly and dramatically right in front of him. Then not understanding that his seeing souls and dead people and such forth and Hollows or whatever and why this was happening. Instead of learning all of this from his father and mother they kept everything from him. This I see was Ichigo's first stumbling block. A complete and utter void of knowledge. Then of course you entirely skipped (probably on purpose due to spoilers) the discussion Ichigo has with his father about meeting his future wife for the first time. fighting WHITE. what happened there who his father was years before and who his mother was and everything. You also skipped who old man's Zangetsu actually is. and why he looks like a certain bad guy that will remain nameless. Of course because of spoilers. I would have to double check but I believe you are incorrect. Ichigo is not a member of all five realms or was it six? seven? Ichigo is a human. a Quincy. a Soul Reaper. and a Hollow. Four Realms You forgot the Beast Realm where Captain Doggo the werewolf is from. Komomura? (sp?) Either you were unaware of Kubo's statements, or you glossed over it, or skipped it. but there is a reason why Ichigo doesn't have a sheath for his sword and his sword is always in Shikai form before the full self-discovery and the ending of TYBWA. Kubo himself made statements on his paid membership/Bleach Blog/Kubo Page whatever he wants to call it. He specifically made these statements to answer fan questions about why Ichigo's sword has never had a sheath. This sheath issue also brings into account why Ichigo's sword (in what you showed in this video from Manga panels) has such a very bizarre peculiar shape. with the white blade and the Black core. why it has a knife and a sword form DUAL WIELD! and what all of this has to do with the sheath. Without Kubo's sheath statements (which I seriously hope somehow they squeeze into the anime!) Another aspect of why Ichigo is so funky won't come to public light! But as I said at the beginning, that was a great video! I enjoyed the content! and I do agree!!! the relationship with The Sword and the wielder's soul and how they are both the same, but also separate, is a very good factoid to remember!
Yeah I skipped over all that stuff because I didn't want it to be too spoiler heavy or long. And sheathe stuff's relevance is more thematic than it is literal imo so I was saving that for Ichigo's character analysis Thanks so much for watching
@@ResNovae i don't know 'exactly' what Kubo said on his paid access blog, but i do believe the sheath IS a literal and physical item. my examples? 1 every Reaper has a sheath. period. all of them. Ichigo is the only one ever shown to not have one. 2 Arrancar have sheaths as well. 3 Ikkaku Madarame. when he performs shikai he places the hilt of his sword against the opening of its sheath and so forth... therefore, with yes just one Reaper exemplar, the sheath and zanpakuto are two integral parts that interact. 4 i can't remember his name, but one of the Arrancar stores spirit energy in his sword's sheath and releases said energy by drawing his sword. that shows an Arrancar's sword and sheath can interact as well. 5 the sheaths of both Arrancar and Reapers' swords VANISH when Resurrección/shikai are performed. what are they? where do they go? why does this happen? :)
I think that old man Zangetsu IS and always was a part of Zangetsu, besides Ichigo acknowledging them both as Zangetsu (which possibly makes it a reality anyway since it's his soul anyway), but before that when training, old man was in the inner world and taught him the name, unless imiss remember and it was White that taught him the name. Then he manifested old man while training for bankai, not White. Also Tensa Zangetsu took the form of a fusion of white and a young Ywhach which represents his Quincy side and until then both entities were shown as two different beings. Though this wasn't his "true" bankai, it was still a part of it. Also, the nature of his Zanpakto is that it is a FUSION of Isshin, Masaki and Whites soul. Isshin fused his soul with Masaki who was fused with White. This means that there was Shinigami, Quincy and a hollow soul FUSED into what eventually became Ichigos soul. Ordinarily one could be an offspring of a human(isshin in gigai) and quincy but not the rest. Ichigos shinigami powers awakened with rukia but they were already inherent within his soul. So, being that they are fused and not just different aspect of his parents, it stands to reason that his zanpakto, which is a mirror of one's soul, is in fact a fusion of all 3.
@@elijahwilson780 not necessarily. "Old man" zangetsu explained to Ichigo that he was NOT his zanpakto but his quincy abilities. But ichigo was like "nah you're zangetsu"
I don’t know. Honestly I’ve never had a problem with it because in other series at it’s most extreme it starts to get goofy. Like they’re just collecting moves so they can use them once. (It never works on the next guy after) Besides, Ichigo’s progression is based on forms.
Brilliant explanation. The Zanpakuto arc (anime) really brings this truth home. Rewatching Bleach again from the start has led me to see that it is truly a story about the relationship one has with one's self and how that relationship is also interdependent on the relationship(s) one has with others in their chosen community.
Toshiro did not have Bankai before joining the Gotei 13. It's explicitly stated that he is training for Bankai when he was a 3rd Seat in the Everything But The Rain flashback. Also, when was it said he already had Shikai before joining as well? Unless he killed someone who happened to have an Asauchi, I fail to see how that is even possible.
1. It's not a zanpakuto that gives a shinigami their power. Their powers already exist within them. The Asauchi help them imprint that soul and give it definite form. That's why Toshiro's reiatsu was freezing his grandma and he kept having visions of hyorinmaru 2. Kubo stated on Klub outside that Toshiro unlocked shikai and bankai before he joined the Gotei 13. And the bankai training Isshin mentioned was most likely about his learning to control it, not activate it 3. Literally every student of the shinoreijutsuin is given an Asauchi upon entrance. It's literally stated by Oetsu. Becoming a student of the shinoreijutsuin isn't the same as joining the Gotei 13. They're completely different things
Great video! Good quality audio, relevant background images, and excellent explanation with citing examples, comparisons, and explaining rational reasons why things work the way they do. I don't usually sub to channels like this since I so rarely watch this kind of content to begin with, but I'm thoroughly impressed with you work. Plus the dommy mommy joke was excellent, more of that please. Keep up the incredible work! Hope the algorithm shows you some much deserved love soon.
He didn't have the time to unfortunately, but his adult self should be able to do way more So maybe he'll pull it off in the hell arc. Made a video explaining why he didn't learn it, please check it out
Not sure if it’s canon, but doesn’t he shoot a cero from his horns against Ulquiorra while in that beast/hollow form? Also, compared to the actual shinigami who have had hundreds and thousands of years to learn and refine a bunch of techniques, it makes sense that in the 3-5 years we get to see of his progression while being suppressed by Zangetsu that he would mostly be stuck with one. Great video btw
If you do a little research the form Ichigo takes after Uquillora essentially kills him in Hueco Mundo is called Del Toro... The Bull... That name was used in one of the official mobile phone games for Bleach. as well as I believe in either Shonen Jump Force and/or Bleach Brave Soul games. From my understanding Del Toro is WHITE the original Hollow that Ishiin K. defeated while it was attacking the future Mrs. Kurosaki. Del Toro is possibly the FULL RELEASE of Ichigo's Hollow. In my opinion this is Ichigo's deepest instinctual need to kill. to destroy. to defeat anything before it. the killer instinct that Kenpachi Zaraki met during the Soul Society Invasion Arc... AND LOST TO even before Ichigo had Bankai. You would have to read the Manga chapter in Thousand Year Blood War Arc where Ichigo finally talks to his father about his wife/Ichigo's mom and the fact that she was a Quincy. And how Isshin was a former Squad Captain. As the only Arrancar that surpassed Aizen's theories of 'power' between Hollows and Reapers... Uqillora was ENTIRELY SURPRISED that Del Toro could defeat him. That meant that essentially Del Toro was beyond anything even theorized by Aizen who was supposedly the second or third smartest person ever in the history of the Soul Society.
That’s what makes bleach so special to me, most series don’t treat powers as a dynamic you share with yourself. One could argue Ichigo hates part of himself so he limits himself out of fear and safety. So the thing I took away from bleach is by knowing and accepting yourself, you can unlock your true potential
I'm a bit late to the party, but I'd just like to point something out here, that's also already been said below: You make wonderful points for Ichigo's "relationship" with OMZ, and I actually never thought of it like that, the answer I have is much simpler. Ichigo has had his powers for the Shinigami equivalent of a few weeks. On top of a sword that was actively sabotaging him, he simply didn't have a whole lot of time to figure things out. Not to mention that space of... What? Fifteen? Seventeen months? Where there was no communication at all. Beyond that, as memory serves, there's not a whole lot of time between the arcs, and therefore not a surplus of time to talk with your sword. Not to mention after attaining Bankai and dealing with the whole Hollow business, he never really put much effort into it.
"why ichigo only use getsuga tenshou?" My opinion is, he would be too OP if he have other move. Getsuga tenshou would be enough to be as iconic as ichigo himself.
One of my favorite aspects about bleach’s power system is that for soul reapers one of the main ways of increasing their power is literally just developing and understanding themselves as a person, and how they should go about achieving their goals.
Bruce Lee once said "I don't fear the man that has 100 techniques. I fear the man that has practiced Gestuga Tenshou a 100 times."
lol.

1 year, maximum. He's powerless for the better part of those 2 years.
@@CH-zc8qx true!
When he returned to save Rukia at Sokyoku he was crushing lieutenants off blitzes. A Quincy soul bonded with Aizen's White for forming his asauchi. Ichigo broke shinigami records at Urahara's shop. Isshin is shinigami noble lineage. Like, him challenging SK Y'wach in merged-Bankai was built up to be more than "yeah, he could win that."
Like your point about the cultured feel.

Finally he passes Oetsu's test, realizing he was the one holding himself back, so Ichibei has no problem telling him Zabimaru's true name.
so bleach is persona game thank dude now i know
Something to add.

That's a really good take
Ah yes, the easiest way to get the internet to understand philosophy.
Persona Memes.
White: I am a shadow, the true self. Seriously, I even have the voice distortion overlap, who the hell thought they were being slick with this shit?
@@colt1903 It's psychology, not philosophy.
@@ThePlatineist It may as well be the same damn thing as far I'm concerned.
So flash step is not a technique
@@jamesyoung452 I mean hey, technically he knows Flash Step and Sonido
Toshrio had at least 20 years and up to 22 years at a Lowball of time Since that was when he was a Third seat and that is not including any time before that point and so of training and Ichigo Had about 5 months using his own power(with an extra 2 with Rukia power) or when he finally got threw what White was shooting at him during the Vizarrd fight and where Old man stopped fighting him, he had like 2 days)
or in other words an insane Genius who is going to be one of the strongest Shinigami of all time has had over 40 times the amount to train
or another example Chad who got his power shortly after Ichigo still has almost 5 times the amount of training, or how Byakuya had goteen like 20% mastery of his shikai at best since he improved it to look like his bankai implying a 5 to 10 times increase in it and this is after like 100 years of training
or the best one how Yamamouto aka the strongest Shinigami had yet to fully master his Bankai after 1000 Years
@@1234andrewjacksmith Also the only time we've seen Ichigo actively search for a new technique and communicate with Zangetsu is when he learnt final getsuga tenshou.
Then again him being so far above normal Shinigami in term of power was even shown when Byakuya goes Bankai the pocket dimension is fine, Ichigo goes Bankai the exact same dimension Breaks by his mere presence
and the whole getting three techniques not counting merging them which would give another 4 and this is just what he showed
Ichigo gets like 1/4 of the time to train as everyone else or even less in comparison while needing to learn 4 times as much
I feel like the time excuse is a copout for lazy writing.
Great video man! I never thought of Ichigo's Getsuga Tenshou like that. In retrospect, it makes a lot of sense. Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much, man

The live action adaptation of this anime was actually good, most are known to be bad.
...there was a live action bleach?

It would get easier if he learned something else though.
This is actually a really compelling argument that I've never thought about! Great video!
Thank you!
❤❤❤ awesome comment
This is despite seeing several other Zanpakto users' released forms, all with their own special abilities and release commands; he never asks 'what about me, what can I do?'
He just fights, fights and fights some more.

An interesting take on the idea of how growth in abilities in Bleach works. I've definitely learned something new from watching this video
That's definitely in the cards
Nope you have it wrong. If a shinigami has a really good relationship with their Zanpaktou then their shikai abilities will become more powerful (see byak) and their use of Bankai will truly be their wildcard and not just a method for fighting a stronger opponent necessarily.

Its also probably cause Ichigo is a very simple guy. And this personality is reflected in his sword. His only desire seems to be to protect. The souls of his sword great this, in the most basic, simpliest, but most efficient way. Its not complex, because Ichigo is not complex

Imagine the voice actor saying the technique name diffirently only to not get bored of hearing it over and over
Ichigo's Getsuga Tensho also looks and functions similarly to a Quincy technique; collecting reichi and firing it off, not unlike a Heilig Pfil, and his Final Getsuga Tensho reminds me a lot of Letzt Stil, both in its very name and the way it temporarily supercharges the user, at the cost of almost completely snuffing out their spiritual power.
I like the growth of Ichigo, how he needs fight his inner demons and accept who he is.
this is a really cool analysis of ichigo kubo has such interesting characterisation with sm u can miss i love the subtly
This is a great video it really goes into detail about the world of Bleach and gives me a newfound understanding about it
The Zanupakuto is one of the greatest things to analyze about Bleach, since often times it reflects on the characters development.
Not many videos would actually make me appreciate Bleach even more but this one did. GJ man.

And then there's where the anime ended with that brilliant show of power and precision slicing the building.
you my friend are on your way to being a top bleach youtuber, here have a sub.
The type of zanpakutou matters also, Ichigo has a battle type m, not an elemental or kido type. That also makes a difference
Apparently it was always meant to yellow as it will be in the new anime so that point doesn't work.
@@somedudewatchintv5297 Well I guess that means the original anime was unintentionally giving us hints then. :P
@@Abyssionknight Sorta. Sorta not. The Soul King has golden spiritual energy and Ichigo having golden energy as well was meant to hint that he is of a similar nature to the soul king as a fusion of all the races.
Nice catch man. Didn't really think about it that way. Love your narration and scriptwriting. Top content
it's also a reason why he couldn't use sonido until tybw which could bypass sensory abilities. something death battle kinda missed

Thanks man and yeah very great content you deserve my subscription👌
Thanks!
I would love to imagine this is how Kubo thinks his fans read the story. Great video keep going bro ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
I just wish Ichigo defeated Yhwach with Mugetsu. It would be so cool if his bankai ability is using Mugetsu without losing his powers.
This is a very meaningful content. Thank you. I am an anime-only guy but was filled up about the TYBW by youtubers like you who really do research and are not only clickbaiters. I really didn't mind spoilers. The more spoilers, the more i am excited for the anime. lmao.
Ichigo has a sword that can shatter fate, just like Bach.
Nice vid
A very clear explanation of why ichigo couldn't use different techniques while also making a lot of sense
Despite it being only 1 move he uses it in different ways constantly
Wrapping it around the blade, using different getsugas to corner grimjaw
Blasting the ground to make a shockwave etc.
Komomura? (sp?)
Either you were unaware of Kubo's statements, or you glossed over it, or skipped it. but there is a reason why Ichigo doesn't have a sheath for his sword and his sword is always in Shikai form before the full self-discovery and the ending of TYBWA.
And sheathe stuff's relevance is more thematic than it is literal imo so I was saving that for Ichigo's character analysis
Thanks so much for watching
:)
Ichigo only needs the Getsuga Tenshou because it's essentially a ''Fuck everything in that direction''
Bro...we already knew that.
@@elijahwilson780 not necessarily. "Old man" zangetsu explained to Ichigo that he was NOT his zanpakto but his quincy abilities. But ichigo was like "nah you're zangetsu"
Excellent analysis man. I have never thought about it like you.
I don’t know. Honestly I’ve never had a problem with it because in other series at it’s most extreme it starts to get goofy. Like they’re just collecting moves so they can use them once. (It never works on the next guy after)
Besides, Ichigo’s progression is based on forms.
Amazing Video Bro. Pure Facts 🔥🔥
Shunsui is a man of commitment, commitment for his dommy mommy
Yessir
That's why Toshiro's reiatsu was freezing his grandma and he kept having visions of hyorinmaru
2. Kubo stated on Klub outside that Toshiro unlocked shikai and bankai before he joined the Gotei 13. And the bankai training Isshin mentioned was most likely about his learning to control it, not activate it
3. Literally every student of the shinoreijutsuin is given an Asauchi upon entrance. It's literally stated by Oetsu. Becoming a student of the shinoreijutsuin isn't the same as joining the Gotei 13. They're completely different things

I wish Ichigo learned some kido or Hado
He didn't have the time to unfortunately, but his adult self should be able to do way more
So maybe he'll pull it off in the hell arc.
Made a video explaining why he didn't learn it, please check it out
The same reason why Kenpachi doesn't really have any techniques at all. Huh. An interesting take, I appreciate it.
Yeah I mention that he's only able to fully use his hollow powers when White takes over. He's only able to use them post SK palace

Nice video. But I feel like this could've been way shorter.
Yo Zeke! yeah I felt that too. It's why I added timestamps in case anyone wanted to jump straight to Ichigo's stuff
That’s what makes bleach so special to me, most series don’t treat powers as a dynamic you share with yourself. One could argue Ichigo hates part of himself so he limits himself out of fear and safety. So the thing I took away from bleach is by knowing and accepting yourself, you can unlock your true potential
Kubo doesn’t get the respect he deserves in western audiences
Nice essay, dude! Looking forward to watching more from you👍🏻

I'm a bit late to the party, but I'd just like to point something out here, that's also already been said below:
You make wonderful points for Ichigo's "relationship" with OMZ, and I actually never thought of it like that, the answer I have is much simpler.
"why ichigo only use getsuga tenshou?"
My opinion is, he would be too OP if he have other move. Getsuga tenshou would be enough to be as iconic as ichigo himself.
Yeah that's the more realistic explanation lol. Though Kubo makes it make sense in-universe too
He does have more than 1 attack, but we only saw it a few times. Getsuga Jūjishō
One of my favorite aspects about bleach’s power system is that for soul reapers one of the main ways of increasing their power is literally just developing and understanding themselves as a person, and how they should go about achieving their goals.
