I still have this album, on yellow vinyl! Had to special order it in 1980 I think...not too many stores in central Kansas carried the Dickies, or anything good for that matter.

yep, back when punk was FUN. Hardcore had its own version of fun but nothing like the earlier bands and scene in LA...
...went to see The Dickies a couple days ago, but wouldn't you know that it was tempting fate to hold a show 100 yards from the old Cuckoo's Nest site. CMPD were on it and shut the show down long before JFA or The Dickies even got close to playing....
I've seen The Dickies a couple times already this year, they've been playing all over OC and LA...

Not only was it pop musically speaking-and yes it was and is one of the poppiest types of rock, right up there with glam and bubblegum-but listen to how acutely aware of pop culture the music was. The Dickies and Ramones in particular. Hell, both bands covered cartoon show theme songs! Punk in truest, happiest, dumbest (and best) form is pop incarnate. Even going back to proto-punk bands like the velvet underground and the new york dolls which were practically pop-art projects!

punk was fun when it wasn't busy being about short hair and piercings-the Ramones, that was fun, the Dickies, also fun-buzzcocks=fun.

@taffysaur Agreed. Punk was extremely pop. It took over pop culture, after all. It was nothing more than stripped down rock with a lot of the blues and jazz influences removed. New Wave and Hardcore was basically an extension of removing blues from the mix.
There are a few exceptions to the rules though. What first comes to mind is The Clash's London Calling, with the many aspects from artists they grew up listening to. Hell, the song Jimmy Jazz was nothing more than a reason to play jazz.
