I can tell they don't need it at all, but they are using auto-tune in the production process to give us that clear clean sound that fits so well in the mix. That with some compression and EQ is why their vocal arrangement is so stunning with the band. Though I'm sure live they sound exactly the same, just a bit less processed as it's live and auto-tune live is aggravating to work with. They probably just run the vocals through an analog compressor and pump it out.
