Always reminds of the long hot summers as a teenager in England in the 90’s... great times ✌🏻

This song took a good two years to become a UK Top 40 hit from its original release.
The band had a Beatle-esque look to them, particularly the lead singer!

A timeless classic. Predating the whole "Britpop" thing but effectively being a blueprint the other bands later repeated on how to take the same influences and reshape them into something new, fresh and energetic while wearing those influences for all to see. The La's happened too early really with this track released a good few years into their existence in 1988, if it was released perhaps 6 or 7 years later it would have been a monster hit. They had a revolving door of members with front man Lee Mavers and basist John Power being the two mainstays. The band sort of petered out after their only album and some touring.
As others have said, check out some of the stuff by John Power's next band Cast who were part of the Britpop movement and had some really excellent and distinctive hits throughout 1995 - '97.

Hey Nick! The la's first LP has some great tunes. All under 3 minutes apart from looking glass. Doledrum, timeless melody, way out, freedom song, son of a gun are all worth checking out. Impeccable album.

This was the original. "Sixpence none the richer" made it popular. That's probably the version you're thinking of.

A fantastic pop tune extolling the virtues of heroin. Most of the great pop tunes are drug related. (Not an endorsement btw).

Cast are another incarnation of this band. Their song 'Fine time' is a thumping tune!

Timeless Melody is also a great song by The La's. The bass player went on to form the band Cast who also have some good songs worth checking out. Finetime, Sandstorm and Alright are all good songs by them.

Good reaction, I didn’t know this was about heroin. Another UK band from the 90’s you probably haven’t heard off, The Auteurs and the song Showgirl, great song and band worth reacting to.

This is so Scouse and so wonderful...... a song I never tire of. Pop perfection. You should listen to the album. Lee Mavers is a tortured genius in the same mould of Brian Wilson

@@paulbangash4317 i always find it interesting that albums and musicians like lee mavers and the la's album can be regarded as iconic and influential to so many artists in the uk and be labled a one hit wonder outside the country.
When i moved to canada i was introduced to the tragically hip and the same can be said about them.
There are loads of amazing bands all over the world and i guess that UA-cam videos like this are one of the new ways to expose music lovers to them.

The BBC used Walkaway for the closing credits to their coverage of England's Euro 96 semi-final defeat to Germany - mournful looks, heads held in despair...
