- Talk’s Kevin O’Sullivan is joined by media commentator Nigel Pauley to discuss Emma Thompson’s support of Just Stop Oil.
Dame Emma Thompson, BBC presenter Chris Packham and actors Miranda Richardson and Iwan Rheon have backed the actions of Just Stop Oil, as they took part in a protest persuade politicians to prioritise nature and climate.
They were among an estimated 60,000 people who marched in London to demand political action to tackle what they said was a “nature and climate crisis”.
Asked whether she backs Just Stop Oil, which this week attacked Stonehenge with orange paint, Dame Emma said: “I think I support anyone who fights this extraordinary battle.
“We cannot take any more oil out of the ground. I mean, there’s much argument about it. And I know there’s a lot of very complicated economic arguments about it.
“We have to leave all the resources in the ground, we cannot bring them out of the ground.”

Labour have said they will loosen building regulations to ensure that more houses are built especially on Green Belt land and farmland for the huge number of migrants entering this country every day. I think I have done my bit to "save the Planet". I have refused to have a chauffeur driven limousine, I have refused to buy or travel in a private jet, I will not accept the countless invitations to dine and travel on luxury yachts, I will not fly in dripping luxury seats but stay in cattle class, I will save valuable natural resources and live in my one bedroomed flat and not be tempted to have multiple properties around the World, I will continue to work and add value to products and services rather than "rest" for 10 months of the year, and finally I will cultivate as many plants as I can in my window box to offset my Carbon footprint.

It would be lovely to have some facts about climate change (or any current hot button issue) from a neutral source, so just literally the reality of the situation without fear or favour, rather than through some biased agenda (virtue signalling or a power grab for example). If there's a problem to be solved, let's have a conversation to solve it rather than endless distraction to fuel personal agendas.
Where does stand on immigration? She talks about the countryside but the countryside (green belt land) will need to be developed to accommodate the hundreds and thousands of people from overseas moving here.

Higher carbon in the atmosphere helps plant growth. The countryside will be perfectly fine with higher carbon. Plants become more drought resistant when there is more carbon and yield more produce. That’s why greenhouses pump carbon in there to help plant growth. Carbon is the food for life.
I remember after Brexit she decided to go and live in Italy saying the UK was a sad little Island off the coast of Europe, only to rush back when Covid hit Italy.
