Thank you for watching my videos! This channel is dedicated to animal education and improving the lives of captive animals.
Here’s little about me!
My name is Meghan Arriola and I live in Texas with my husband Jaime, where I dedicate my time to taking care of exotic and domesticated animals on my farm. We run a rescue and sanctuary for animals like alpacas, birds and reptiles. I do animal education presentations for groups and schools. Our alpacas also do events where we are able to teach people about these unique animals. I have used service dogs for medical needs for over 10 years and I am an advocate for assistance animals and mental health awareness.
I am an animal educator that brings science related ideas to an audience from around the world by presenting fun and interesting topics in a family friendly way. Animals touch our lives in unique ways everyday as simply being our pets and companions, but how can we make their lives equally as special now that they live in captivity? My UA-cam channel and blog explore ways to meet this goal by tackling things like animal behavior, human-animal relationships and veterinary medicine. Animal science is a great way to teach people of all ages that education is fun and nerdy is cool.
My previous animal related work experience includes working in veterinary clinics, private zoos, training horses and volunteer work in wildlife rehabilitation, rescue/foster/adoption programs and therapeutic horsemanship for children with disabilities.
When I am not working with animals, I am working at the health care clinic owned by my husband Jaime and I, where we provide services to low income, minority neighborhoods. We have been on the frontlines fighting covid19. I also have a passion for art and I am an award winning painter and photographer and published author. I am naturally very introverted but I am extroverted about sharing my passions and doing my part to make the world a better place!

thank you for advocating for animals and educating the uneducated.
What a wonderful wealth of knowledge. 🙂
It's also refreshing to hear "alpaca" pronounced authentically. In the Northeast, everyone just says "Al Packa."
The more I learn about alpacas & llamas the more I love them! I've always loved animals & you are living my dream! I want to have a sanctuary but don't think I'll ever be able to afford it!
🥰💖
Llamas are dicks. Unless you need a livestock guardian animal. Don’t get a llama. They’re dicks.
Thank you for this video with all the wonderful advice and info.
Thank you for this video...I'm not getting alpacas but I just started a job at an alpaca farm and this info answers some of my questions about stuff I've noticed there. ❤
always hold onto a little fear when handling alpacas. It will keep you safe
Love your content, I see way too many videos of people keeping lone alpacas and it's so heartbreaking
Awesome information I share your pain of people arguing on the most basic of care. 1 thing you didn’t mention which would make sense as you probably don’t have this issue but m worm prevention. a lot of people don’t know that they’ll have to do monthly shots if they have white tail deer where they live. And overall herd health (weighing, checking FAMACHA, trimming toe nails, checking body score, m worm prevention if needed, and cd&t once a year). Also wormer resistance😁😁 there is so much to share about alpacas
How many times a year do you trim their toenails?
Very informative, I always learn something new from you. Thank you for posting such quality information. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family and all your animal friends.

Ooo
I'm glad you addressed the alpacas as guardian animals question. I've seen a number of non guardian animals being touted as being very good guardian animals. Clearly there is misinformation out there. Miniature horses and alpacas are not guardian animals. Sheep and goats are not... so many are not and it puts them in danger to expect that of them.
Thanks for posting this. We're probably going to be given our neighbor's three male alpacas when he moves later this year, and obviously they have different needs than the horses I used to have. Thanks to you and another UA-cam poster we will pass on our neighbor's lone female, although it was fun to think about baby alpacas romping around our pasture.
Thank you for posting this great information! So, at the end you mentioned guardian llamas. Would've loved if you would've went into the do's and don'ts of keeping alpacas and llamas together (assuming they can be based off your last ending statement?) Maybe another video on that? :)
Well done. Very informative! I’m about to get alpacas and will follow your advice.
Thank you so much
Thank you! 😊 great video! 👍 I'm just here gathering information and dreaming of someday moving to Michigan and maybe having a few (3) alpacas (all males or all females) and a dog! Your advice is priceless!
I hope you made it to Michigan!
Thank you! I wish I would have known about you a few years ago!!!!!
wonderful
This is very informative, thank you for taking about proper care. I don't have animals unless I can take care of them and one day I would like to have animals for wool. Knowing how to take care of animals is essential to good wool. How many times a year do they need dewormer or other shots?
She did mention that their desert location prevents a lot of parasites like that.
Thank you thank you
Nice...very happy
Love your Alpaca top
You are amazing!
Hi! I’m learning at the moment. What’s a good quality grass hay?
Love your shirt!!! ❤
Oh my I thought you quit UA-cam thank you so much very informative
What a cute top.😍
I was wondering if I could use any fleece for chinchilla cages
I love alpacas & almost all animals. Thanks for your video. Your flyfixed link does not work anymore. Do you have a better link? Thanks!
You said Copper in thier diet ,
I be looking that up , my question is ..
Im in Australia is oaten hay for feed ok ? you say grass hay and grain is it ok to give them a hand full randomly of wheat or oats , i read a cup randomly is ok is this correct ?
Can you do a full video on Aberrent Behavior Syndrome in alpacas (Male Berserk Syndrome)? TIA
Yes we do
I love my respect 🤗
Do you keep the wool
Can you please do all of your pets 2022
I’ve seen lots of alpaca beards with a donkey as their guardian. What do you think about Donkeys?
With appropriate land, fencing, shelter, feed, guard animal, water etc. in place, is it ok to leave your heard unattended for 1-2 weeks if you need to make a trip, or do you need to have a local resource available to monitor them daily? Thank you!
You would need an experienced livestock sitter if you wanted to leave your alpacas for more than 1-2 days. Alpacas need to be supplemented twice a day, fresh water 1-2x per day, stall cleanings at minimum every other day but preferably daily, fresh flakes of hay daily, and to be monitored for signs of illness. It is always better to be safe than sorry.
REALLY I plan to BREED and educate...we can't all be that BRAD...BUT YES auctions are one place to buy and it sucks but it's pretty much all I have access too!
I inherited alpacas last fall after my family purchased a property with 3 of them - a mother/son pair (he's gelded) and then another unrelated female. I am obviously really concerned about the male/female issue and have considered rehoming the male and bringing in some more females, but also torn on what to do given that they have already been living together for many years and are bonded. In your opinion, would it be worse to split them up, or keep them together?
That is a pickle. What did you do?
@@barryjackson1401 I consulted with our vet and he advised me not to split them up given that they're so bonded and haven't shown any major behavioral or health problems. :)
Alpacas rock and go alpacas! 🤘
In Arizona how often should an alpaca be sheared, at what time of year?
She answered in another video, check them out they're great! You shear them once a year & do it before it gets hot, I think she said they usually do it in April.
Can you please make 2022 pet video
Great video! where did you buy your clothes shown at 4:29? I really want that... plz leave me the store link...♥
Hi, the link is in the description
I just discovered this video and I love it. I have a question, if I had 3 females and wanted to breed alpacas, should I buy 3 males to be able to have a baby? and obviously do it in a controlled way, as seen in the video
Greetings from Chile
You could pay a stud fee to use a male at another farm. When you buy your females most farms will usually give you the option of breeding before you take them home. You don't have to have your own male.
happy to report that I knew all of these already!
are you posting soon? :(
What are the best animal's to have living with three female alpaca's
Very informative and educational video, but the music is distracting and kind of loud. Just wanted to give you my perspective, maybe next time calmer or quiter background music would be better. Thanks 🙏 🦙❤
I was wanting to get alpacas only want females do they eat grain?
How to get Alpacas in India , if I want ?
I've heard that some people will use a donkey as a guard animal for alpaca herds. Is that bad?
You cannot pasture a guard donkey with alpacas, risk of death is very high. Donkeys are used in a perimeter pasture.
I have three mini donkeys in the same pasture. They keep their distance but stay close enough as a herd along with the goats, geese, chickens, and ducks.
I do not have a single alpaca. I have a pair and hopefully one is pregnant.
@@tanyakauffman311 are you not concerned for the baby after watching the video
@@WyrdHag she said not to keep male/female pairs together. I think unless you want to breed them. You CAN have a female with a gelding(neutered male) together. Groups of 3 our more are best.
I've heard of people owning alpacas for anxiety.
My alpacas give me anxiety. 😊
Does anyone see the link for the dress?
In the description
@@HappyTailsAnimals where do I find the description. Sorry I am new to you tube
So need to buy 3 pairs of alpaca,🤪
What about in Australia? i have a guardian alpaca for my chooks and since ive had him i havent had issues. The only predators we have are foxes and cats. Ive witnessed him spitting and stomping foxes and cats.s
We are talking about actual predators in North America. We face real problems.
@@HappyTailsAnimals We have real problems too, Just we happen to have less predators. And we have actual predators, just they arent as populated where i live
Si quieres guardianes compren guanacos...
What?!?! u have a channel bruh lol
plz help happy tails my rats has 2 big bumps on his tail there is no vets near by i need advice
his eyes are red
and he cant stand up proper
plz help
@@breadstick685 Has he gotten better?
@@bethanyluck5780 he died a few days ago
@@breadstick685 Aw, I'm sorry :(
@@WyrdHag He did say there are no vets nearby. You are very critical of others, whose situations you do not know, but you seem very willing to assume the worst about them. If they are caring for an animal, and asking questions, that implies that they are caring people trying to learn more. Sometimes, people cannot change their situations overnight, and must live with having too few alpacas or a vet too far away. Unless, of course, you would like to step in and offer financial assistance to them. At least the Happy Tails folks are helpful in their comments.
music is too loud
Seems much harder to have alpacas Than raising dogs or any other pets
People usually raise them for their wool.
They are first and foremost, livestock, you can have a few as pets but they are not companion animals. They require minimal professional care- shearing once a year is required. Sub Q shots done every 30 days year round to kill m- worm parasite. It's not hard to do and doesn't require a vet.
Oh yeah 😎. So? Want/need Livestock guardian get a Donkey!
A professional alpaca breeder told me that they are guardians and that they will watch his chickens all night to protect them from foxes and wild dogs
But wild dogs are predators for alpacas and kill alpacas so I don't know how his alpacas protect his chickens
By the way watch of for a horse making friends with a donkey or a lama making friends with an alpaca
LOL
I mean put
Put
NO ITS OUT
I think I have a silly keyboard
Why do Americans have to talk for 15 mins when 2 mins of succinct rhetoric would work
Great video 👍 I have just posted my first chicken video would you check it out and give me feedback?
Do Alpacas in the wild group single sex herds
If you watched the video you would know that alpacas do not exist in the wild. Alpacas are domesticated animals so there are no wild alpacas.
And we already have that alpaca we got pregnant
We need a celebrating Perth today body's in there never like to leave it that way when you put them in the breeding pair but we have a boy we can't have two boys again order fight
Did you mention that they smell horrible and have a bad temper
They really shouldn't smell bad, I have gotten rescues that smell really bad and that's an issue with care. I don't think they have a bad temper, they are usually very sweet.

Learned something new about alpacas today....they're 100% discriminate and racist.
I barely recognize you with blonde hair.
That's funny I just seen a rescue UA-camr and his alpaca just gave birth and he only has two of them and now the baby and they've been together for a couple years now
Yes it's very sad when people claim to be a rescue but don't care for the animals correctly. Happens very often unfortunately
